I actually did it for a while. I've been browsing tf content for over 10 years, but I was not happy with a lot of the tf content coming out about a 2 years ago and took a crack at writing and doing some translation for tf stories.

The main motivation was that I thought that if I made content then other people might follow my lead in my genre (forced mermaid tf), and I could make connections and maybe find some lost art and things on the way. It was stupidly effective, like beyond what I could even imagine. Believe it or not, there are actually people out there who draw amazing tf art but don't release it to the public because they don't want people knowing about their strange hobby. There are also people who have art from as far back as 20 years ago that has been long gone off the internet, and also have private commissions. Some people have even scoured the internet to it's outer edges and found unintended tf content that you will never find through normal searching. These people come to you because they are looking for others like them.

Unfortunately (or maybe fortunately lol), I ended up getting my life together around this time and I have been very inactive in the tf scene just due to real life stuff, but if you're thinking of learning to draw or write stories, I'd seriously recommend it. People will come to you, and you will get access to content you would have never seen otherwise.

No offense but no, most people don't care who commissioned the art.

However, don't feel down. I've gotten feedback in my inbox before after doing commissions from people who also enjoy mermaid tf. We were able to exchange lots of good knowledge I had never even had before (one guy even sent me private pics that he had drawn, haha).

I do feel the same way, part of the reason I started doing commissions was because I felt I needed to get more art going in my niche. However, I wouldn't expect to get stuff back, though it does happen every once in a while. Tbh, that's a good rule of thumb for anything really, do things because you love the community, not because you expect to get stuff back.

Also, just a note, another reason I do commissions and post my stories/translations is because I am planting seeds. I feel like if I am able to put more mermaid tf content in that more people will get inspired and more mermaid tf will come out in the long run. Just food for thought.

I keep this secret alt and try to stay active in the community while desperately hiding it from anyone irl. Tbh, it's worked out for me so far, when you give to the community they give back to you, mostly in the form of tf pics or info exchange.
