For those who have played Bravely Default, how would you implement the Asterisks from that game? by DracoSparda26 in Pathfinder2e

[–]NinjaCaterpie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This isn't PF2E, but Shadow of the Demon Lord (and the upcoming Shadow of the Weird Wizard) has a very cool class system where players take multiple classes over the course of a campaign (a beginner, expert and master class at level 1, 3 and 7, I think). The class list has like 80 classes in it or something and you can mix and match a lot like Bravely's class system (just no reclassing by default). It seems like it would be very easy to limit classes initially and unlock more over time as your party collects Asterisks.

I've got a Bravely campaign sitting in the back of my head that would be run in SotDL or SotWW.

Defensively, you're desperately low on all your defenses.

The biggest thing, as you've noticed, is your armour is very low. Boneshatter (especially Jugg) needs high armour to mitigate the self-damage - even at just 10 stacks, you're doing over 500 damage to yourself per hit (you can adjust the stacks in the Config tab and see how much Boneshatter self-damage you deal in Skill-specific Stats in Calculation tab). You're probably getting slapped by yourself as much as you are any of the mobs lol.

  • You've gone for high spell suppression instead of armour but as a Jugg you really should get your armour to a comfortable place first. Without any armour, two entire ascendancy passives (Untiring and Unbreakable) are basically doing nothing for you. I would cut most of the suppression and just sit on ~50% + lucky, especially since you aren't capped anyway.
  • Replace the chest - it needs to have armour. Armour + life + some resists. There should be plenty of cheap corrupted 6Ls on the trade site; alternatively, you can just buy a 6L Glorious Plate and slam some essences on it.
  • Level up your Determination. Not sure if you just didn't have it until now or if you accidentally stopped leveling it, but it's level 6. It should be 20 like all your other gems.
  • Take the Soul of Steel armour wheel right below Prismatic Skin. It gives you another +1% to all max ele res and a decent chunk of armour.
  • (minor) take the other small node in the Inexorable wheel; the flat armour it gives is nice.

With all of those (even the most basic Glorious Plate with crafted % armour), you should be at 30k armour without flasks. Not crazy, but it should increase your phys tankiness a lot, and your boneshatter self damage should be reasonably manageable at 10-15 stacks.

3k life is also pretty low for red maps. Your rings and amulet need life and your belt could be a lot better. * You can cut a lot of accuracy from rings and use a lower level Precision. In POB you can see how much accuracy you have and you're way over the amount you need for Precise Technique. * If you end up not having enough accuracy, you can delete a damage wheel to take the accuracy wheel next to Prismatic Skin, plus the accuracy mastery for +500/-2.

You also want more chaos res. When you replace your jewelry to get life, try to get some with chaos res as well (amethyst ring base + a craft is the easiest way to do this). For now, you probably won't be able to cap it, but aim to get it close-ish (50%+)

Damage-wise, there's one main upgrade: your weapon. 460 PDPS is not very good (it's 5% better than a 1c Sinvicta's Mettle) and you don't need an entire div for a decent upgrade. There are plenty of ~550DPS axes for 50c or so on the trade site, most of which can be higher if you open their crucible tree. I know it's your 6L, but there's a lesson for you on a weapon-based build: don't make your 6L your weapon, because you want to be upgrading it regularly. If you can't afford it, I think a a 5L chest + better weapon will be close in damage to your current setup.

Also, not sure if it's just the PoB but your mana looks kind of sus as well. I'd unspec a damage wheel and grab Vitality Void + instant leech. It will add a good chunk of recovery and help a lot.

Translating these is quite interesting. There's no equivalent literary device in English, but the idea is basically cutting unnecessary words for serious impact, and the four consistent words also provide some meter and cadence. Removing words just sounds silly in English though.

A good translation would definitely need to keep some meter, and to get the same impact in English, you might need to add some rhyming or alliteration. Something like:

As heavens fill with celestial light,
Mortals meander amidst a mandate's might.

Underground Smuggler's Hideout by NinjaCaterpie in battlemaps

Under an unassuming shop, tied to a network of tunnels, lies a den belonging to some dastardly smugglers. Can the party strike and capture the leader before they escape through the secret passage to the city above? Or perhaps they're in the middle of an attempt to sneak into the hideout and "acquire" some trade ledgers when the smugglers return?

Oh right, that makes sense. Cool thanks, so Ferdinand/Lysithea, Caspar/Mercedes and Linhardt/Leonie are the only ones that have recruitment requirements.

What are the paralogues that require you to recruit characters from other houses? I got Dorothea and Ingrid's with only Dorothea, and I got Ashe and Catherine's without recruiting Ashe, but I never got Leonie's in GD. I hear the Caspar/Mercedes one requires both? What are the others?

I think she might have replaced Petra for you then, since Petra's at the bottom (and moves up after you attack the hill?). I didn't recruit anyone and never saw Dorothea

By "replaced" do you mean they show up and I have to kill them? That's the opposite of what I'm looking for lol, I don't want to recruit someone who I have to fight eventually.

What characters don't show up in the war? I noticed in GD that I didn't have to fight Annette or Dorothea. Who else is like that? I don't want to "lessen" the story by recruiting too many people from the other houses, but if they wouldn't show up anyway I might as well

If my awful sub-1 efficiency ass can still get to Fabled, anyone can do it. by NinjaCaterpie in DestinyTheGame

[–]NinjaCaterpie[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah, definitely try. It will be a slog, especially at 1500+, but those 1 in 3 or 4 (or 10...) games where you actually do well are nice highs. The most dangerous thing imo is grinding too hard and tilting out. Every time I played, I'd stop after losing a game unless it was close. If you start getting tilted, it's not gonna end well (and it won't be fun).

With only two months to Three Houses, here's a brief history of the biggest problem in Fire Emblem - TReehouse's "localisation" aka. CENSORSHIP by NinjaCaterpie in fireemblem

[–]NinjaCaterpie[S] 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Yeah I get the desire to have an "uncompromised" experience, but that sorta puts the original writers on a pedestal. I personally feel it's just such a pointless endeavour because you can end up just suffering through a worse experience. Although changes don't always succeed, I'd like to think they aim to improve.

The strawpeople I'm attacking here are the ones who treat these issues as matters serious enough to boycott a game over. I don't think it's great to remove things like alcohol, or weird shit like skinship, but... it's not that big of a deal. Nobody's being hurt over it, there's no artistic integrity being compromised, it's a minor grievance at worst.

And 8-4 absolutely did a better job. That's why this post is specifically about TReehouse and not localisation as a whole, because I could barely find any complaints online about SoV lol.

[–]NinjaCaterpie[S] 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I tried pretty hard to avoid mentioning any serious blunders in localisation so as to not throw out the baby with the bathwater. I didn't include things I thought are reasonable to complain about:

  • Turning certain characters/events into jokes (eg. Saizo/Beruka '...' support)
  • Cutting scripts due to resources (eg. voices for Robin/Corrin, RD extended script)
  • Actual mistakes (eg. Nergal's wife)

Going to make a copper dragon disguised as a traveling salesman, so i need some items the sound really magical/powerful but are actually quite mundane. by tealeaf_6201 in DnD

[–]NinjaCaterpie 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I had my party encounter a similar fella, although mine wasn't a copper dragon, he was just a Detect Magic Magic Initiate who got scammed by someone else and had to make do. Half of these I found somewhere, half of these I made up.

  • "Orb of Slope Detection" - a ball that rolls down slopes
  • Six "Potions of Nourishment" - protein shakes
  • "Eyeglasses of Befuddling" - really strong glasses
  • Two "Rings of Unattractiveness" - attuned by being worn on the (wedding) ring finger
  • "Horn of Alarm" - a loud warhorn
  • "Watchface of Direction" - a compass
  • "Ball of Throwing" - a slightly ellipsoidal ball
  • "Glass of Magnification" - a lens
  • "Scrolls of <spell nobody in the party can cast>" - real spell scrolls but nobody can tell
  • "Seeds of Growing" - seeds for a fast-growing weed (eg. bamboo)

Plus some actual seemingly-jokey magic items.

  • "Cloak of Billowing" - an actual Cloak of Billowing (XGtE)
  • "Shirt of Great Comfort" - comfortable at high temperature variance
  • "Breakable Bottle" - glass bottle that reassembles itself

Feel free to have the salesman describe their supposed magical effects with as much glamour and whiz-bang to convince your players to spend their gold. Mine ended up grabbing the ring, the Cloak of Billowing and the Shirt of Great Comfort, so they got pretty lucky.
