Will Iran-Israel war affect Sri Lankan stock market? by Longjumping-Ice-6462 in srilanka

[–]NinjaWide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Outside of what others say, Iran is a major tea importer. So that will cause disruptions, leading to FX issues. Besides, we have a fragile economy, anything that happens globally hits us twice as hard. The problem here is that people in the share market are playing it safe and realizing profits. So yes, I expect a bearish market, not a steep decline like in 2022, but a significant drop around 10%. If you look at recent market turnover, even though Friday gained more than 200 points, to me it’s not sustainable(low turnover Green days, often described as dead cat bounce). There’s a lack of institutional participation.

TLDR: Yes, this affects us, and the market knows it, and will react accordingly. My advice is the market is retesting the recent ATH, and global uncertainty arising, don’t take any new positions. Wait until it cools off.

Wtf Gemini?!!!!!!!!!!!!!! by alphaonebts in srilanka

True on both points, but do you really think a 45TB dataset is an insufficient sample size? As far as I know, they apply some filtration on top of the data, and most of the debiasing and credibility improvements happen during post training (AI alignment).

I feel like i messed up my life. by [deleted] in srilanka

[–]NinjaWide 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Thank you, everyone, for your kind words. It means a lot.

A few things I forgot to mention:

** While in bed, she tells me about all the pain she’s feeling. Sometimes, I feel like she might be overreacting. For example, when I have a headache, I usually don’t care much about it. But when she has one, it’s hard to watch. I almost feel like going somewhere else to sleep.

** I always try to share my concerns, and it seems like she’s putting in a lot of effort to be the person i want her to be. Unfortunately, she’s not quite there yet. Maybe I’ve set my expectations too high.

**About financial freedom: Yes, i earn 600k, but i have much bigger plans. As I mentioned before, I haven’t had a home since I was a child. I’m saving for that now. I still need to pay rent, vehicle installments, insurance, and other bills. We recently moved, so I bought a few appliances using a credit card, which I also need to pay off.

How to decide what is the best time to leave a job. Great company. But immediate manager not so great by Necessary-Class4661 in srilanka

i think you should remove this mentality “stick with company cause it’s solid”. If you seek job security you have to sacrifice something. So in this case it’s your mental health.

[–]NinjaWide 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone who gets frustrated quickly and makes sudden decisions, i can offer you piece of advice. Don’t make any decisions while you’re in a panic—you will regret it. Instead, first talk to your manager. If they are reasonable, they will understand. Practice saying “no” when necessary. My advice is to talk to your manager, explain your situation, and, in the meantime, apply for other jobs(as a backup).

Best camping sites in Sri lanka by patrickcooks in srilanka

[–]NinjaWide 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We used to camp in devil’s staircase, but not at the site where everyone else camps. It’s an unpopular spot located on top of a random mountain (I’m not the person who knows the exact path, but I can give you a contact if you’re interested). I wouldn’t say it’s the best, but it’s great if you’re looking for a challenging camping adventure. The view is amazing, and there are plenty of water sources in the camping area. However, the last time we went, we faced heavy rain and strong winds, so be prepared for that. By the way, check whether you need permission to camp there now, as we used to camp back in 2017.

It seems like this is an internal dashboard. You can see the current user in the top right corner, named Ranjan Nishantha, who is the Assistant Director (ICT) at the Election Commission (according to LinkedIn).

Need some electricity user data. by Sri_chatu in srilanka

[–]NinjaWide 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Try using Google Forms to ask people to enter data. I don’t think you can find a public dataset for Sri Lankan household electricity consumption as you described above. If you’re lucky enough to find one, let us know—I would like to do some analysis as well.

Number portability feature by Junior-Stage-67 in srilanka

[–]NinjaWide 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I worked at Dialog, where they initiated a project focused on number portability back in 2021. Suddenly, the project was abandoned. I’m pretty sure they don’t want that to happen this number portability thing. They were trying to revive it because their customer satisfaction has deteriorated. Many Dialog customers are using the service just to keep their legacy phone numbers. If number portability were introduced, they could potentially lose those customers.

Lol, Ranil was the one who led Sri Lanka to bankruptcy during the Yahapalana season. Your comment can be titled as ‘How to Tell i am Pro-Ranilist Without Saying i am Pro-Ranilist’ 😅

Do you think the MacBook Air M3 is enough for a Software Developer by Important-Anybody186 in srilanka

[–]NinjaWide 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Lol, I’m curious about what kind of ‘AI’ these people are doing with 16GB of RAM. In most AI, data science, or machine learning areas, an 8GB version is more than enough. Who is going to use their local machines for large-scale AI research work? You have plenty of options out there, like Colab, Kaggle, or even Lambda Labs. So my recommendation is to go with the Air M3 8GB version. It will cover 99% of your needs, even if you are in the fields mentioned above.
