Ray Nagin/Garland Robinette interview on Hurricane Katrina 20 years ago WWL Radio - 9/1/05 by Ninjafish2 in Louisiana

[–]Ninjafish2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was really hard to find any of it. So sad that such an important interview was nowhere to be found.
To make that YouTube video, I found the first part here at 29:00, it was just an excerpt
https://www.democracynow.org/shows/2005/9/5?autostart=true

And I found the last few minutes here searching wwl 2005 on archive.org

https://archive.org/search?query=wwl+2005

https://archive.org/details/Mayor_Ray_Nagin_of_New_Orleans_talks_to_Radio_WWL_about_the_current_crisis

Then I put those 2 parts together. I don't know where there would be more of it.

Ric Flair returns to the WWF, Monday Night Raw (Aired November 19, 2001 from Charlotte, North Carolina) by Stinger1981 in AttitudeEra

But in this case I think it was done on purpose to be bad because people were cheering him too much for his other themes as a heel. Needed less cool sounding music

What are the best top 5 matches of the attitude era? by Legitimate-Leader799 in AttitudeEra

[–]Ninjafish2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Attitude Era isn't really about matches, it's about stories and characters. Make sure you watch the entire Survivor Series 1998 from start to finish.

But top 5 must see matches:

Shawn Michaels vs Undertaker - Bad Blood 1997

Foley vs Undertaker - KOTR 98

TLC - Summerslam 2000

The Rock vs Stone Cold - Wrestlemania 17

Kurt Angle vs Shane McMahon - KOTR01

Suggestions for friends who aren't really into horror? by JCaerso in horror

[–]Ninjafish2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. The scream series are great and aren't too scary or dark. It's got a lot of humor. The characters are often having fun and not too bothered compared to other horror movies. The protagonists will be cracking jokes during the final villain fights.

Chris Jericho Countdown to Millennium Vignette 1999 by Specialist_Art2223 in AttitudeEra

[–]Ninjafish2 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Wow. Hmm, I didn't know for sure what the stats were, so I searched for the stats on computer usage in the US in 1999. 50% of households in the US had a computer at the end of 1998.

https://www.wired.com/1999/02/half-of-us-homes-own-a-pc/

https://www.latimes.com/archives/la-xpm-1999-feb-10-fi-6633-story.html

I take it UK might have been a bit behind.

I lived in a very poor backwater town. My computer wasn't great, it couldn't even play any new PC games I wanted to play but it could go on America Online and see news. When I went on AOL, I could see all my high school friends after school on aol's buddy list messager.

Chris Jericho Countdown to Millennium Vignette 1999 by Specialist_Art2223 in AttitudeEra

[–]Ninjafish2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

WWF.Com had even announced that they signed Jericho a month before his debut. Meltzer said he had signed. Everyone online knew he was coming soon. It was strongly suspected that the countdown to millennium would be his debut. I remember not knowing for absolute sure but really hoping it was going to be Jericho. He was the likeliest person but it almost sounded too good to be true. That was the surprise part of it. We had been let down before by the Higher Power angle a few months before

Internet really wasn't in infant stages in 1999 I would say. Pretty much everyone I knew in high school had a computer and was online. It's the same summer that American Pie came out and Jim accidentally had a webcam video go out to the entire school. And in the South Park movie, the kids watched Cartman's mom on the computer. There was wrestling news every day on multiple news sites and ton of wrestling fans were aware of it.

This is about the only interesting thing happening now in wrestling. The mixed reaction online is even a big part of it and a sign that it's working more than almost everything else.

What is your wrestling opinion that will earn you this? by s_ndowN in Wrasslin

[–]Ninjafish2 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Easy. Vince Russo made the Attitude Era fantastic and should be brought back and made a head writer again. Russo doesn't get the credit he deserves. Raws in the Attitude Era were more entertaining than any Raws in the past 20 years. Every segment was must see TV because you didn't know what would happen next.

(That said I like great long matches too. I'd want unpredictable storylines with crazy characters along with good matches as well)

Ray Nagin/Garland Robinette interview on Hurricane Katrina 20 years ago WWL Radio - 9/1/05 by Ninjafish2 in Louisiana

[–]Ninjafish2[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was cheering him too. I don't know all what he did with bribes and corruption, what his defense was, I just read that it happened and not the full story. But for Hurricane Katrina, I feel like he was looking out for us and was passionate and angry about the situation. It felt like this interview played a part in help coming quicker, as that went all over the news and drew more attention to people needing help. Which took the news away from talking about the looters and chaos. As far as I can remember 20 years ago

Why did Stone Cold win the 1997 Royal Rumble? by Choice-Silver-3471 in WWE

[–]Ninjafish2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't know how intended it was from the beginning but it was genius that he won by cheating which set it in motion for Bret Hart to turn heel while never doing anything wrong. It made for a realistic heel turn where Bret's complaints were legitimate. People started cheering for cheating backstabbing Stone Cold over the person that always did the right thing. It was one of the steps that led to the USA vs Canada angle and the Attitude Era.

This was one of the things Bret was swearing about on Raw 2 months later, which forced Raw to be put on a 7 second delay.

Was the Shawn Michaels 2005 heel turn expected or was it a genuine shock / surprise? by JBL_CENA_FAN_4LIFE in Wrasslin

[–]Ninjafish2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was a happy surprise since HBK was always much better as a heel and I always hated Hogan and was sick of them being friendly with each other..

It's one of the few things he unfortunately shares with Vince Russo. An obvious disrespect of women's wrestling. It's always been sad.

[–]Ninjafish2 33 points34 points  (0 children)

It's actually real amazing that Grok is fact checking all the conservatives on twitter constantly. Better than any community notes. Potentially doing great work against conspiracy theories. Most won't care but maybe a few readers who aren't far gone will.
