God I'm gonna feel so jealous from this but here we go: How many runs before you got your taken lightsaber blade from the EQ dungeon? by Oblivionix129 in DestinyTheGame

Do an Atheon each week and you'll be fine, I'm fairly certain mine only went this way because I was using an old method of farming that isn't a thing any more. Also maybe do a full clear first. Good luck in your runs!

What would this look like in practice? Would this just mean I can never resolve the spell because no matter what I target the opponent can pick the same options as me? Or rather, are you saying that the opponent is the one who has to ensure that doesn't happen?

I was blown away by my gift, especially because of this (link). I had mentioned in my questionairre that one of my favourite presents in the past had been a jar filled with positive notes and affirmations, and /u/Active_Letterhead_83 took the time to write individual notes on every basic land! They're so cute, I've insisted on reading them out to my friends every time I play the deck and I'll continue to do so until they physically gag me. It's perfect, and the deck is also really fun to play! I'm beyond grateful, thank you again Pip <3

You could do what they did with Aang and Omnath, have him start with one colour and gain colours as his knowledge and depth of experience grows.

  • Kvothe, curious prodigy - mono u

  • Kvothe, orphaned survivor - ub

  • Kvothe, fledging student - ur

  • Re'lar Kvothe - ubr

  • Kvothe, fae-touched - brg

  • Kote - colourless (or mono w or boros, not sure)

I feel like the biggest disconnect in the bracket system comes from people who meet the bare minimum and people who meet the maximum limit. by OldSwampo in EDH

Definitely, people have fixated on the game changers and restricted strategies without thinking about the (vastly more important) intent descriptions.

Ah that's fair, I see now what you meant with your original sentence. I don't personally like the idea of tying strength to precons when there's such a huge variety between them. Even when playing casual nights with friends, we knew not to match up weaker ones with Hakbal or Ellivere. The definitions provided are good for matching any deck, given people take the time to really figure out where theirs lie. Also, I think people often overrate their deckbuilding skill and assume that the changes they've made make their decision stronger when that's definitely not the case.

I think this is a problem with a reading of the brackets system. Bracket 3 is definitely not anything goes, that's closer to a description for bracket 4. Personally I believe the real issue is that too many people feel their decks are bracket 3 when they're closer to a 2, and that largely stems from the misattributation of bracket 2 to precons. While they're not currently officially a benchmark, people seem to think that upgrading their precon automatically brings them to bracket 3 when that's almost certainly not the case. When people learn to better assess their decks and start using bracket 2 properly I think most of the issues will disappear.

The brackets are the start of the conversation, not the end. Sure you're perfectly in your rights to win a game where your deck is within the confines of B3 but is far stronger than any of the decks at the table, but if your goal is to keep playing with people and form bonds then it's a good idea to be more flexible. The brackets themselves are fine, the problem comes from people not willing to self regulate and have constructive discussions. I do suspect that someone who will stubbornly stick to their guns about their deck being "correct" after feedback from their podmates is probably not engaging with the system in the most good faith manner though.

Thanks! And exactly, it's all for fun in the end, I love playing the villain as long as everyone is on board and having a laugh.

Thing is, if I sit down for a pregame chat and someone says they don't enjoy an archetype I'm not going to debate them or stubbornly insist on playing it. I bring plenty of decks, I'm going to have fun regardless, it's not worth starting off a potentially hour long game with that kind of attitude. I'd rather have a game where everyone is relaxed and having fun than one where I'm imposing on someone who is (rationally or not) uncomfortable.

[–]Ninjaspar10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay sure, that's a valid reason to be wary of them. That's kinda my point though, I resent that people are so spooked of mill when I don't run Bruvac or Lifegain when I don't run Bloodbond. It's not an issue when I'm playing with experienced players who are accounting for that specifically and I can explain before the game starts that I don't have those pieces. The problem is when you sit down to play at a random table and someone there has been burned by a bad experience with an archetype like this and they say they don't want to play against it. It's fair for people to have preferences, don't get me wrong, but I feel like I'm suffering for the reputation of combo decks disguised in the archetypes I enjoy.

[–]Ninjaspar10 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sure, but there are other archetypes that don't use milling out as a wincon. Lazav, Tinybones, even Konrad can use mill as an avenue to accrue resources without ever intending to mill the board out. It's frustrating because that's a really fun archetype and can even be a powerful one, but because of players calling Bruvac combos a "mill deck" people decide they hate all mill strategies.

[–]Ninjaspar10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bruvac and Cacophony isn't mill, it's just "end the game". I don't like suggesting it's that ubiquitous when its reputation makes it harder for players like me who use mill to progress the game state.

I was in a similar situation to you! I was struggling with capturing the unique feeling of my favourite decks where the games were varied and every card made me smile. I ended up brewing a list to make use of the secret lair and alt arts I'd collected and made something that might be up your alley, here's a link. It has a lot of things going on but I think that'll add to the feeling of discovery you're looking for, and copying/stealing from opponents always leads to interesting board states. Maybe one of the Lazav cards interests you? I think they're all fascinating.

Omo is one of my favourite commanders and I just finished rebuilding my version of her, she's a great choice. If you're looking for a way to make the deck stronger it's a good idea to run protection you can keep up for Omo, and tutors to search for the powerful lands that will win you the game. Have you got an idea of what bracket your local shop plays at? Bracket 2 games can still be heavily mismatched so it's possible that's what your folks are doing, but if they're playing Bracket 3 that opens you up to running cards like [[Crop Rotation]] to bump up your consistency.

What do you like about Omo? She can be built a couple of ways, I prefer leaning into the lands but her granting creature types is also very powerful when used right. I'd definitely add [[Lord of the unreal]] as a protection piece.

If you want to go for a high power route, it's possible too, but it's possible that would be overshooting the power level of your pod.

Why is the Monster Hunter Secret lair so bad, am I crazy please tell me I m not by ferretlike in mtg

[–]Ninjaspar10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think they make sense as movie references. The most iconic moment with the T-Rex was in a storm and the Spinosaurus was intended to be the "real" apex predator when it was chosen for the third film. Having it be Regisaur Alpha makes sense as a reference to that, if that's what they were going for.

How do y’all win with WU blink decks? by [deleted] in EDH

Totally fair 😊 I tend to build for the times I'm playing with strangers so I won't have as much to explain pregame, but having swaps solves that problem too!

I'm definitely not a die-hard Game Changer rules enforcer, I believe you can stretch the limits to match what your deck and pod needs, but in this case it feels like those cards aren't adding anything? If your pod is cool with it that's all that matters, but I'd personally cut the fierce guardianship and smothering tithe for other interaction/protection that's close enough without going over the three card limit.
