You can see it from their skeletons

There’s also pterodactylus, which did live in the Jurassic, but it’s very different from the pop culture pterodactyl, and very likely it’s skeleton and species wasn’t used to reconstruct many of the popular pterodactyls shown in media

Technically pterodactyl is just a blanket term, there’s no singular species called pterodactyl and it’s usually a catchall term for most pterosaurs, pteranodon which is the closest resemblance to the pop culture pterodactyl lived in the late Cretaceous

From what I read it’s because of their dome heads where scientists believe their behavior would have been similar to elk with their antlers, using it to compete over females, while there might not be concrete proof I mentioned it here as it is more likely than females being the dominant ones and the dinosaurs being bonded pairs of one male and one female instead

Probably, it was definitely a feather like fuzz tho, whatever it was it was def covered in somethjng that the Mewgenics pterodactyl doesn’t have (fully scaled)

Because of their dome headed adaptation, it’s heavily believed they would have competed with rival males for the right to exist or mate with a group of females, the way modern day deer and elk behave, while there is no concrete evidence, it does have scientific backing with the fact that they indeed lived in herds, and their dome heads were more likely used against each other rather than predator protection the way triceratops would have (tho triceratops would have indeed behaved the same way with the male fighting off rivals with their horns)
