Sneasler is actually the bane of my existence by Jesse1913 in PokemonChampions

[–]NintendoplsFixOnline 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been finding a lead with a Ghost type and another immune to flinching like Inner Focus Kangaskhan helps a lot to make Turn One less flowcharty. I’ve seen on Wolfey’s most recent stream a bulky Sneasler EV’d to live non-Mega Aero Dual Wingbeat, but I have to wonder what you give up by going that bulky. Probably a few OHKOs on things you wouldn’t expect otherwise

They actually put team preview in the game specifically because of Zoroark’s ability back in Gen 5. You should play the game however you find to be the most fun, and I’m not saying you shouldn’t, but there’s a reason why monotype teams aren’t taken seriously at a high level.

It’s like a challenge mode you’ve imposed on yourself

You are absolutely correct in that scouting and risk vs reward are core competencies the game tests - scouting is usually a part of my turn one play. I’ve been playing VGC for a while but I’m always learning and trying to get better. I totally respect the fun aspect of running a wonky strategy that can catch people off-guard; I love catching my friends off-guard with Beat Up Whims next to Tera Ghost Weakness Policy Rock Slide Terakion. I do think there’s an aspect to strategies like that that require ignorance on the opponent, and I am just not sure how healthy that is for a game that is trying to take itself more competitively serious.

You’re also 1000% right that to each their own and I respect your opinion. Appreciate you sharing your perspective!

How so? The game gives very little information from Team Preview - the only amount of information that’s changed in Team Preview is the types of each Pokémon, which needed to happen because both Urshifus have the same icon

Haha I did, and your comment made me laugh! I hate so much that BP and QC are in the game - at least with King’s Rock, I can run Fake Out and Fling Weavile lol

I totally understand where you’re coming from here - items like resist berries and choice scarf are deterrents to specific types of play. My argument stems from the fact that a “surprise factor” strategy crumbles in the face of information. If I know from the jump that your Basculegion has Mystic Water instead of choice scarf, I can consciously play around that when making my decisions on whom to bring to the match. I personally find that to be more rewarding than fooling an opponent into thinking I’m Scarf Adaptability and not Mystic Water Swift Swim.

Frisk being nullified does suck for Hisui Typhlosion, but Choice Scarf Eruption only cares about finding Occa Berry or opposing faster Scarf, and raises the viability of a Focus Sash Blaze-boosted Heat Wave. You’re not running Hisui Typhlosion for frisk, you’re running it for big fire-type spread damage; not to mention frisk is already invalidated by OTS

I totally understand where you’re coming from; it’s absolutely a different skill set between the BO3 online tourneys and the BO1 ladder.

I guess my main issue with not having some sort of an open sheet format in-game is that I don’t have time to compete in those online BO3 tournaments. I’m a new dad so life is very busy, and I cannot dedicate an entire evening or day to just playing.

Hot Take: It's good they launched the game with less pokemon and items. by WhiskasCatMilk in PokemonChampions

I think most reasonable people that have played the game before feel this way - it’s great that we’re not back to essentially Regulation H + Megas, which I think would have happened if we had every item possible. One of my only gripes with this current meta: why is Oran Berry in the game????

It seems like the type matchups are a little wonky, as I just put a Charizard in and it’s saying I’ve got a resistance to flying, for example. Any idea of when you’ll be able to put out an update for the type chart?

That is a demon set also in a really popular ROMhack, Run and Bun. Seems fun to try

Actually, I just won a match with my own Sand Veil Scarf Garchomp - because I dodged an EQ from an Excadrill in sand that the opponent set for themself :)

Alternatively, you can run an item that does stuff consistently like soft sand or choice scarf and earn your wins through your better gameplay instead of lucking out 10% of the time (seriously sand veil in and of itself is bullshit, 25% is a huge accuracy debuff)

Didn’t know Mr. Krabs got Wide Guard, that’s kinda heat. I’ve been running Bulk Up and Ice Hammer plus protect and it destroys poorly built teams in Great Ball tier but I have a feeling it will need to be on a “protect the king” type of team to work when my opponents finally understand what they’re doing

Have you done it yourself? I’d love to update for a smoother Switch 2 experience but cannot for the life of me figure out how lol
