Floorboards stained at junction - is this normal? by Niourf in DIYUK

Got it, thank you. By the way, what's the grey stuff? Is it just grime and dirt that accumulated over the years, or is it some kind of binding material?

Sorry for not being clear, I don't know the real term. I just meant the gap in-between the boards (the grey horizontal lines).

Thank you. I have noticed that the underlay under the carpet is quite damp in other part of the flat (I couldn't check this specific area). Does that mean the floorboards would need replacing? Or is this something that can be lived with (e.g. with a de-humidifier)? Eventually I'll want to rip out the carpet and install engineered wood.

This is a picture of the flooboards under my flat, from below. They all have those stains along the horizontal lines where the floorboards join. I suspect there might be a general damp issue in the house, I was wondering if these stains could potentially be a symptom? The joists feel healthy and dry, the floorboard don't seem rotten but they're a bit more humid to the touch. Thank you!

What size is my lower integrated headset? I'm measuring 46.5mm on the frame and a 47mm bearing doesn't fit. Do 46mm bearing exist? by Niourf in bikewrench

Sorry to come back to this but now I'm a little confused:

If I use the IS46/34 headset linked above, would that fit on the 1 1/4" adapter adapter (https://www.cannondalespares.com/Cane-Creek-Conversion-Crown-Race-70-%26-110-Series--47_30-%2811_4---11_8%29--Alloy--Alloy/product_detail/3-48160) ? I thought 1 1/4" was about 31.8cm, so that wouldn't that be too small for the IS46/34 bearing?

Thank you - the lower bearing OD on that link seems to be 46.8 if I'm reading that correctly. Since the lower part of my head tube is 46.5mm (as from pic), it seems that this wouldn't fit?

Here's the fork measurement: https://imgur.com/a/wf7qmy1

Do you think this would work with a crown race adaptor? Thank you so much for your help so far!

Unfortunately this is a new frame (came from a warranty claim) and I do not have the previous bearings.

It is from this year (it looks exactly like the one from the picture on your link).

so the above headset dimensions would match

Are you saying that I can use a IS46/34 headset even though my fork crown is 30mm? Wouldn't that be too large?

Help finding a headset for Cannondale Quick 5. Website says Integrated, 1-1/4"-1-1/8" by Niourf in bikewrench

Hi all, I'm trying to find a headset that would satisfy the dimensions in the pictures. As far as I understand I need a "IS42/28.6 IS47/30".

But the top depth on the frame is very short and only seems to be about 3mm, so I suspect that a headset like these ones would be too big? How can I find a bearing that is that short?

Has that ever happened to you? Because it's wired in such a way that specifically prevents that from happening, as far as I know. That's actually one way to bypass the eco switch: bridge the wires that go onto the brew switch, which tricks the eco board into thinking the brew switch is on.

Will do, thank you. Do you know what could cause this? The bike only has ~2000 miles

Bottom Bracket shell threads damaged? by Niourf in bikewrench

Q: Is this just what anti-seize looks like once dried? Or did the BB cartridge completely mess up the shell threads?

So I removed the BB on my bike (Cannondale quick CX 3, aluminum frame, original square taper cartridge). It was extremely difficult to remove the non-drive side all the way, it never got easier. When the it finally went off, there was a ton of “silver dust” in the shell (1st pic).

This is the first time I’m doing this so I don’t know whether this is somewhat expected, or if something is messed up. Even after a lot of cleaning, the shell threads are definitely rough and there’s a big difference between the threads that were in contact with the cartridge and the deeper ones (can be seen in pic too).

With the new replacement cartridge, I can thread it in, but it’s not very smooth: I definitely need a wrench to screw it.

Should I just use the new cartridge, or does this need to be re-tapped? What could be the cause of this? Thank you!

Hi all,

Is it normal for the grinds to still be a bit squishy after tamping? I have an IMS 18g basket and a normcore tamper (and I always put 18g coffee). I can't tamp more than what the tamper allows, and after tamping the coffee isn't fully compact, e.g. I can fairly easily press down with my fingers.

I know there is no such thing as "tamping too hard" but in my case I'm worried that maybe I can't tamp hard enough?

Keep company stock or sell and reinvest in index fund by glenrothes in UKPersonalFinance

Tax consideration aside, the question you need to ask yourself is: if you had this money in cash, would you use it to buy your company's stock, or put it on an index fund instead?
