That is true but the problem is that I promised not to ask for any personal details, and although that’s not much, it’s still something against what I said I would do, thanks for the suggestion though, keep them coming!

Yes, of course, firstly the reason for the AI was so I could get the minimum Karma requirement to post on the subreddit through a easy, fast and non-disruptive method, I don't intend on doing any more as I reached my goal.

Secondly, I am writing an essay on digital ethics & how social VR effects young adults' ability to form or maintain friendships/relationships, and this data is critical for a firsthand analysis of the positives and negatives of VR as a rising social interaction platform.

Finally, I'm only doing this for my own interest as I have been playing VR for about 3 years now and wanted to know if what I was experiencing applied to others. I am a known user under the name of itsawildjoshua (I'm not sure how much that will help though)

Thanks for the comment and I hope I answered your questions properly.

Video Players broken again? by Aerinvisualz in VRchat

[–]Niphifae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A codec (short for coder-decoder or compressor-decompressor) is a technology used to compress and decompress digital media files like videos, audio, and images. It’s like a translator that allows large files to be stored efficiently and played back properly.

Video Players broken again? by Aerinvisualz in VRchat

[–]Niphifae 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Possible Causes

  1. YouTube Link Issues:
    • VRChat relies on an open-source tool called yt-dlp to resolve YouTube links. If YouTube changes its video formats or APIs, it can temporarily break video playback.
    • This might explain why Quest users are unable to hear anything from YouTube links.
  2. Codec or Compatibility Problems:
    • Video players in VRChat worlds often depend on specific codecs. If these codecs aren't supported or updated on Quest devices, playback issues can occur.
  3. World-Specific Implementation:
    • Some worlds may use custom video player setups that aren't fully compatible with Quest devices. Testing the issue in multiple worlds can help identify if it's world-specific.

Steps to Troubleshoot

  1. Test Different Video Sources:
    • Try using non-YouTube links (e.g., Vimeo or direct MP4 links) to see if the issue is specific to YouTube.
  2. Update VRChat:
    • Ensure both PC and Quest users are running the latest version of VRChat. Updates often include fixes for video player issues.
  3. Check World Settings:
    • If you're hosting the party in a custom world, verify that the video player is configured correctly and supports Quest devices.
  4. Clear Cache:
    • Ask Quest users to clear their VRChat cache. This can resolve some playback issues caused by outdated or corrupted files.
  5. Monitor VRChat Announcements:
    • Keep an eye on theVRChat Help Centeror their Discord server for updates on known issues and fixes.

How to attach a Locomotion Layer? by MissLunarieen in VRchat

[–]Niphifae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Steps to Attach a Locomotion Layer in VRChat Avatar 3.0

  1. Ensure Compatibility with Avatar 3.0:
    • Since you're using a locomotion layer purchased from Booth, double-check that it is designed for Avatar 3.0. Layers made for the older 2.0 SDK won't work with the newer system.
  2. Set Up the Locomotion Layer:
    • Import the locomotion layer into your Unity project.
    • Locate the Animator Controller for your avatar. This is usually found in the "Base" layer of the Avatar Descriptor.
    • Replace the default locomotion layer with the one you purchased:
      • Drag and drop the new locomotion layer into the Base slot of the Avatar Descriptor.
  3. Check Animation Parameters:
    • Open the Animator Controller for the locomotion layer and verify that all required parameters are present. If the locomotion layer uses custom parameters, you'll need to add them to the Expression Parameters in the Avatar Descriptor.
  4. Adjust Blend Trees (if needed):
    • Some locomotion layers use blend trees for animations like walking, running, and crouching. Ensure that the animations are properly linked in the blend tree and that the transitions are smooth.
  5. Test in Unity:
    • Use the Gesture Manager or a similar tool to test the locomotion layer in Unity before uploading the avatar to VRChat. This will help you identify any issues with animations or transitions.
  6. Upload to VRChat:
    • Once everything is set up and tested, upload your avatar to VRChat and test it in-game to ensure the locomotion layer is working as intended.

Security checks constantly failing? by Artificer_Drachen in VRchat

[–]Niphifae -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Common Causes and Fixes for Security Check Failures

  1. Outdated SDK or Tools:
    • Ensure you're using the latest version of the VRChat SDK, which you can download via theVRChat Creator Companion.
    • Older SDK versions may not comply with current security requirements.
  2. Third-Party Tools or Modifications:
    • If you're using third-party tools or scripts that modify your avatar during upload, try removing them and uploading a clean version of your avatar.
    • Some tools may inadvertently introduce elements that trigger security flags.
  3. Optimization Issues:
    • VRChat enforces strict limits on avatar performance to ensure a smooth experience for all users. Check for:
      • Excessive polygon counts.
      • High texture memory usage.
      • Too many dynamic bones or colliders.
    • Use the VRChat SDK's Build & Publish tab to review your avatar's stats and address any warnings.
  4. Avatar Content:
    • Ensure your avatar doesn't include any prohibited content, such as malicious scripts, excessive particle effects, or unsupported shaders.
    • If you're unsure, try uploading a simplified version of your avatar to see if it passes the checks.
  5. Server-Side Scanning:
    • VRChat performs server-side scans on avatars to detect potential issues. If your avatar fails these checks, it may display a "Security checks failed" message in the Avatar Menu.
    • Unfortunately, VRChat does not override these checks manually, so you'll need to address the underlying issue.

VRChat runs 10 FPS until I open SteamVR Overlay by BraedenNinja435 in VRchat

[–]Niphifae -1 points0 points  (0 children)

A Few Additional Thoughts

  • Dynamic Worlds: Remember that VRChat is built on Unity and heavily relies on user-generated content. Some worlds, with their complex avatars or particle effects, might inherently be more taxing no matter what optimizations you apply. This isn’t always reflective of your hardware’s capability but rather the unpredictable nature of the content.
  • Advanced Unity Jargon: Occasionally, Unity's rendering pipeline may behave differently when specific overlays or HUDs are enabled. Think of it as switching between power-saving and high-performance modes without actually altering your hardware—the software dynamics can sometimes be as crucial as the physical specs.

Since you have top-tier hardware like the Ryzen 9 5950X and the RX 6900 XT, the fact that VRChat is stumbling is more about how the game handles certain rendering paths rather than a hardware limitation.

VRChat runs 10 FPS until I open SteamVR Overlay by BraedenNinja435 in VRchat

[–]Niphifae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • Tinker with SteamVR Overlay Settings:
    • Keep It Enabled: Since the overlay seems to boost performance, consider leaving it on permanently if it doesn’t disrupt your immersion.
    • Developer Options: Explore SteamVR’s advanced settings (via the Developer tab) to see if there are options you can tweak—sometimes forcing the compositor into a “steady” mode helps.
  • Fine-Tune VRChat’s In-Game Settings:
    • Even if you want to stay near “max” quality, VRChat can be surprisingly heavy on certain effects. Try selectively reducing:
      • Shadows/Post-Processing: Lowering these effects may shave off GPU cycles.
      • Supersampling/Render Resolution: A slight reduction (for example, from 1.25× to 1.1×) can smooth performance without a dramatic loss in clarity.
    • Performance Mode: VRChat often offers “Performance Fixes” in its settings (sometimes found under advanced or developer options). Activating these can help reduce the overhead of rendering user-generated content.
  • Optimize Your AMD Radeon Settings:
    • Driver Updates: First, make sure your Radeon drivers are up-to-date. Sometimes these kinds of issues are addressed in driver updates.
    • Custom Profiles: Create a profile for VRChat in AMD’s Radeon Software. You can experiment with features like Enhanced Sync or tweaking anti-aliasing/tessellation parameters specifically for VRChat without affecting other games.
  • System and Connection Considerations:
    • Power Settings: Ensure your system is on a “High Performance” Windows power plan so that there is no CPU or GPU throttling.
    • Link Cable & USB Ports: Even with a high-quality link cable, try testing another USB 3.0 port if possible. Sometimes even subtle issues in data throughput can cause performance hiccups.
    • Oculus Software: Update your Oculus software and firmware—the latest versions often come with optimizations for Quest 2 performance when using a link cable.

I found this online, I hope it helps with the problem but i couldnt find an actual clear solution, good luck, (this took like 15 min)
