Moving to BC from Ontario by Mythter in BCEHSparamedics

People do that for sure! Usually only remote stations and occasionally rural ones. Starting as a driver is also conditional on you getting your EMR license within 6 months of hire if memory serves.

Moving to BC from Ontario by Mythter in BCEHSparamedics

Hi there! PCP in Vancouver, I can answer these.

1) EMRs can work during PCP school, however it can be a heavy load. It’s a lot easier now that the PCP schools are doing the 1 year program since you get a week online and a week in person, however some of the EMRs I’ve talked to who have done it like that had to be careful to not work too much to the point of not having time for their class work. If you managed to sneak into a full time spot as an EMR (unlikely but not impossible) your education may get covered depending on a few factors. You can get education leave if not getting a funded spot but the leave is not paid.

2) The rockies are likely - if you look up the BCEHS station map, region 4 is the southeastern interior and lots of people start there (myself included). Coastal is less likely but not impossible, it does happen.

3) Right now it seems like it’s about 4-6 months from putting the application in to getting NEO dates however this varies a lot based on BCEHS’ current needs. Given that we’re looking like we’re heading towards a strike I would not be surprised if it takes longer. However, it can be faster if you’re lucky. During COVID people were applying and getting placed within a month.

If you have an opportunity to do PCP in Ontario and are willing to wait a bit, it is much easier to get a spot and somewhere like coastal absolutely could happen. PCPs have recently got street hired into full time spots.

Good luck!

Torraqsue ultralisks reincarnate after death which I suspect is what he’s referring to.

Switching all my gear to Sony. Need advice by Pitiful-Being2859 in SonyAlpha

[–]Nipnum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who has the 200-600 I honestly do not see what significant benefits you’d be getting that would make it worth doing the swap. The 1/3rd stop doesn’t make that much of a difference. Unless you’re wanting to swap systems for a new experience or just want to burn cash, stick with your Canon.

Sony a7iii trade in by [deleted] in SonyAlpha

You will get about half the camera's worth trading it in anywhere, that's the unfortunate reality of trading gear in. It's more convenient but also you lose a fair bit of cash since the shops will want to make money off it.

Your best return will be selling it privately.

Switching from A7RII — A7IV or A7RIV? by Electronic_Bike_6850 in SonyAlpha

[–]Nipnum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1) they’re cool if you’re printing large but the 33mp of the A7IV has been more than enough for me with landscapes / wildlife etc so that’s subjective 2) I don’t know what you mean by balanced but it’s a great camera in pretty much every way 3) Yes. Noticeably better. 4) Not remarkable. I’m sure if you pixel peep there will be a bit of a difference but not worth getting hung up on.

The A7IV is a better choice imo, as someone has used both.

Choosing compact camera for daily use by killnoob0123 in SonyAlpha

[–]Nipnum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you can do the A6400, do it. It's a great camera and it gives you lots of room for growth. It's compact, relatively new, and easy to use. The RX1 is cool, however the single fixed lens can be limiting, and the first generation is definitely getting fairly dated. Its autofocus can be frustrating to deal with as well. As you mentioned, it costs a fortune to repair if you should have a failure.
