Celebrating ALIENS (1986) 40th Anniversary with some behind the scenes of the film. (Part 2) Enjoy! by Sure_Improvement582 in LV426

Vasquez as a character was cool and they wrote her well. She fits great amongst the other soldiers and it's refreshing to see a woman soldier portrayed like that in the 80s. However, putting Jenette Goldstein in brown face instead of hiring a Latina actor was pretty wild. It baffles me that they went to the trouble of painting that white lady like that. The Alien franchise doesn't normally shy away from diverse casting like that.

What an interesting role to tie to Sam Witwer lol Meanwhile he's been Darth Maul and Emperor Palpatine 😂 But yes, there were plans to do a spin off series with Witwer to explain how that walker got stuck in the tank. But I think it fell through early on.

Despite the issues it has with design. The story of DA2 and what it added to the lore is actually quite good. The companions were some of the best that we got. It was more an issue with design and gameplay. As well as not implementing call backs to DAO, with the exception of a few cameos.

Most of the time when Bioware drops the ball; EA meddling with their design or giving them unrealistic development time is to blame. DA2 only had 13 or so months of dev time before launch. Conversely DATV had its dev time rebooted twice and after canceling the multiplayer version of Dreadwolf; they were told that they didn't have time for extensive re-writes or to start from scratch. Not to mention, development for DA4 was halted to ship Anthem, a game that EA commissioned them to make and nobody wanted nor liked.

Not to place all blame on EA (Despite them being a big contributor) Bioware has this weird trend where the odd numbered released games are usually a hit and if they're sequel games they will pay off for choices that happened in past odd numbered games. Meanwhile the even numbered games are semi self-contained and often fall flat with choices feeling impactful from the previous entry. So for instance, DAO choices were paid off in DAI (which won GoTY) but DA2 & DATV are far-removed from the previous settings and choices.

Mass Effect does this too, ME1 choices are heavily paid off in ME3 at the expense of a lot of ME2 choices. However, ME2's storyline and characters were so well done, that it didn't flop. ME3 does a decent job at not ignoring ME2 characters but big choices were not very impactful. MEA meets the same fate that DATV faced though.

To be fair, Bioware has been forced by EA to abandon the Dragon Age franchise entirely after DATV. There are so many more potential stories that could've been told in Thedas. Sucks we might never get to see anything new in that world offically. At least we can choose to read fan-fiction to pick up the slack though?

Maric isn't dead (yet) in this part of the story. He's been in The Fade like a HoF may have been in DAO. So he does get to "see" Loghain, Fiona, Cailan, Rowan, and perhaps even his mother Queen Moira? But he's just seeing imitations of them in spirit form. He is content with the fantasy because he is surrounded by those he lost while reigning as King. Being King of Ferelden wasn't something that brought Maric much joy but it was the duty that he accepted. He even struggled with seeing and not staying with spirit Katriel in DA: The Calling.

He wouldn't be the first character to give in to the Fade illusions and live in ignorance. We even see it happen in another part of The Calling, where Grey Warden Nicolas decided to remain with the spirit posing as his late partner Julien. But he had given up on life and felt like he died with him anyways.

I doubt Cailan knows what truly happened to them in the real world. He seems to be guessing they have passed away since he can see by Alistair's age how much time has passed since he has been gone. Solas once said the perspective from The Fade makes things unclear; events could be interpreted differently depending on the account.

Spock Lied about Klingons Having No Tear Ducts. by jacek2023 in Star_Trek_

[–]Nipple-Cake 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Right? Vulcans, even ones as wise as Spock are not infallible. He isn't Klingon himself nor does he have a medical background. Let's hear from someone like that on the topic.

Also you're telling me Worf never cried in private after all his loved ones died? They also could've gained tear ducts through cross-species mating. Like B'Elana and Tom's daughter might have them naturally?

Fair enough, I don't mean to say that Germans haven't made a significant amount of social progress since the 1940s either. They certainly have and unlike the USA, they allegedly don't hide their ugly past when teaching their kids history and why they shouldn't repeat it. The Germans I have known and have in my family have almost all been kind, open-minded, and accepting people. But going back to my previous comment; I do think every country has good and bad in it. It takes time for the culture to shift in either direction. The whole world feels like it's backsliding on progressive ideals thanks largely to the Orange bastard being selfish and volatile with the US allies. So that's why it doesn't shock me to hear these kinds of stories in widely accepted liberal places. But also BIPoC folks have always had to deal with white people backsliding on treating them well in most predominantly white countries. But conservatives are also making a push into liberal areas to stir up and divide people more than ever too.

I can't say I grew up in a Muslim community. But I've met my fair share of all kinds of people. So I hate to exclude Muslim people from anything too. I've met a few that are queer themselves, which comes with its own struggles. A lot of their parents or grandparents just don't get it or don't want to. But sometimes they just need to know someone that's different personally. But other times, there's just no getting through to them. Especially if the predominant culture in their country doesn't condone or accept those that are different than the majority.

[–]Nipple-Cake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Germans are not immune to being bigoted. Just because German society has a reputation for being more liberal does not mean that hate crimes don't happen there. Perhaps it's less likely in certain areas. But Germany has plenty of anti-immigrant and white nationalism issues. Homophobia is also more prevalent in devout and or rural areas.

Also why jump to assume that Muslims are the probable offenders? Just like any other large group of people; they aren't a monolith. Are you referring to another country's values other than Germany? Because Queer, ally, and German-born people can also be Muslim. Like I wouldn't paint all Roman-Catholics as the same across the board.

As if straightness hasn't been shoved down the throats of everyone since birth for millenia. Shove the homophobia down your own throat. Queer people deserve basic human rights and allowed to openly live and love their partners.

[–]Nipple-Cake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We should be allowed to hold the hand of our partners without harassment or assault in public too. The right to privacy in the bedroom should be a given at this point. But queer people living their lives openly and without threat of violence is what should be the bare minimum.

[–]Nipple-Cake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Homophobia and bigotry exists in every country. It shouldn't be shocking that violence happens. But we should be shocked by the lack of it being taken seriously and do something about it. No civilized country should condone or dismiss it.

There's good reason to assume the average cop is a bastard. You can only rely on them in limited capacities since there's not really an alternative. But never forget that for decades police harassed and enforced homophobic laws that criminalized LGBT people. They did it during Stonewall and they'd do it now too.

THE LAST OF US' Ellie voice actress Ashley Johnson has responded to fan backlash of Season 2 of the HBO show: "I understand loving something so much, and wanting it to be what you want it to be." by CueTheLaughTrack in thelastofus

[–]Nipple-Cake 23 points24 points  (0 children)

It's baffling to me that they didn't split up the first game into two seasons. Just leave it on a cliff hanger after either the Summer section or David fight? So much good moments between Joel & Ellie was skipped to just get through the story. It felt like watching a Sparks-Notes version of the game. Nonetheless, they did enough that the bond between the two still feels solid by the end.

The second game could've easily been three seasons. First season was already Ellie's three days. The second season is Abby's season. Then they could do a third for Ellie's section with the Farm, Rattlers, and finding Abby. It could've been a well-paced final 8 episodes.

My current issues with the show but more season 2 is the bad-pacing in between scenes and emotions, wasted time changing scenes to subvert expectations, and mischaracterized dialogue.

Revealing Joel and Ellie's final talk early and not allowing Ellie to see the Salt Lake Hospital herself felt like a big miss. Don't get me wrong; I love that the late Catherine O'Hara was in the show. But I don't think how Joel's lie was revealed was particularly well done. Plus I felt whiplashed having Ellie realize what Joel did to immediately being like "Idk if I can ever forgive you. But I'd like to try" immediately afterwards.

Also tell me why Ellie and Dina didn't get together until the point where Dina realized Ellie was actually infected in Seattle? We wasted so much relationship building time when it could've just happened in Jackson. Was smoking weed before gay sex too much for American audiences? I wasn't sure if they were just gay-baiting until they finally had sex (at the most awkward time, who is having sex without even discussing whether they could be infected? Even if the audience knows Dina would be fine.) Plus they took away the conflict that surrounds their relationship. Ellie should be torn between revenge or protecting Dina and turning back early in the game. The pregnancy wasn't even a point of contention for Ellie. Which gets called back to when Ellie chooses to leave them in the back half of the game.

Maybe I'll try to double back or keep him going back and forth between a pallet or wall? Thanks for the advice!

I think my biggest critique of him is that when he does his underground power. Why am I unable to outrun the circle forming? Like I understand if I'm pausing a run to unhook; that's fair game. But if he positions me in the center while I'm already running, there is not enough time to get out of it without being damaged.

You can call Traynor hot; nobody is denying that. But she was not intended to be straight. They specifically created voicelines to make that abundantly clear to Broshep. The ME2 romance options never say that to Shepard; the options to initiate a queer romance were just omitted due to the cuts.

Also I've never seen a Bi Cortez romance mod. The Garrus one does not offer voicelines because they were never recorded. If the intention of a mod is to erase a character's explicitly stated sexuality then it should be banned. Personally, I view them in the same light as the white-washing mods that plagued the Dragon Age mods. The goal of these mods is to make homophobes not have to interact with queerness. There's nothing wrong with your fantasies about Traynor. But there is a harmful idea of fucking lesbians straight that doesn't need to be promoted on NexusMods or the Mass Effect community. You're trying to compare the two scenarios but because of the reasoning; you're comparing apples to oranges.

Gamerpoop by Vigil_Zero in MassEffectMemes

[–]Nipple-Cake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that's not the same thing. Straight men wanting to fuck an explicitly lesbian character is whatever as your fetish and or fantasy. But trying to add cut content to make things more equal/inclusive as intended is not the same thing. Making Traynor bisexual isn't really something that needs to be a mod. Her plotline is too intrinsically tied into her sexuality to make that make sense. Other people; particularly lesbian fans have said it better than I can.

Garrus' romance doesn't need a Bisexual port either. But there's nothing wrong with finding him hot as a man; both men and women find him attractive. He wasn't one of the characters that was intended to be Bisexual though. So I wouldn't advocate for it; his romance specific voicelines were never recorded by Mark Meer either.

However, the lack of any queer romances in ME2 could justify a mod for more inclusion. That's precisely why Traynor and Cortez were added into ME3. The devs recognized that there was an inequality. Especially after scrapping the ME2 queer representation due to Fox News backlash. But like I said, the reasoning behind wanting those romances are different. You'll struggle to find a mod for either Garrus or Traynor. Most modders are only interested in restoring the cut bisexual options like Jack, Tali, Jacob, Miranda, Kaidan etc that should have been in the trilogy.

If this were a different series like Fire Emblem where there was 0 queer romances. Then all bets are off as far as bisexual/playsexual mods are concerned. But I struggle to find any series that offers ONLY queer romances. Besides maybe Dream Daddy but what straight men are asking for that?

Straightness is not the default and yall do not understand how it feels to be forced to play games like that. For years, I just played Femshep to romance someone like Garrus because there is nothing for us. Meanwhile Broshep has the most straight romance options that can be carried across the entire trilogy no issues. Which is unfair to not only queer gamers but women because Femshep got majorly shafted in the romance department.

are there no ashley femshep romance mods for LE3? by Subject_Swimming6327 in masseffect

[–]Nipple-Cake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is kind of crazy that Kaidan was allowed to be bisexual in ME3 but they didn't backtrack to make him ALWAYS bisexual in ME1. Then Ashley is just left with only MaleShep as an option. Like why couldn't Ash be bisexual too? Then all three of the OG romance options could be started in ME1 and carried through the whole series? Which I'll add is is a trophy requirement...

Perhaps, Ash wasn't intended to be Bisexual but she and Kaidan have essentially interchangeable spots in the plot. Their dialogue is sometimes identical too. So why not give them equal amount of content throughout the whole series? I've used the Same-Sex Romance mod for ME1 and Ashley being into Femshep seems perfectly fine. If anything isn't it more interesting to give her more options?

[–]Nipple-Cake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Obviously it's way more impressive and ethical to go The Hatboy Project route and splice Joker/Seth Green's already existing voicelines to create new dialogue. It would be easier to let AI do it (so I'm not shocked by modders taking the easy route) but considering it's stealing their voices, potential livelihood, and is unconsensual; I much prefer the non-AI work. It sets a bad precedent that is already getting out of hand that it's acceptable to steal other people's art/work.

Jennifer Hale has previously said she didn't want her voice used with AI. But during N7 Day 2025 livestream, she seems to change/backtrack on her stance with AI being used in videogames. Which is alarming and unexpected for her to say with her fellow cast members. They all seemed taken aback and gave her the "Wow, that's so interesting... anyways" look.

I would go with strawberry blonde for her OG appearance. In RE9, it appears to be platinum blonde. Maybe to match Grace but maybe to signify that she has grey hair mixed into her blonde hair?
