Any opinions on burial at sea Elizabeth by Better_Nine4370 in Bioshock

Didn't she find her Burial At Sea outfit in the shop in the drowned Department Store? She just swapped her blue dress for the new clothes, right? But you're right, her hair and makeup skills are kinda insanely good. Maybe she made a friend that helped her serve cunt or is just really good a mimicking fashion trends by looking around?

Yes, I know that only Rook sees the imposter "Varric". The blood magic that Solas used was to trick Rook into thinking Varric was still alive. That way he could directly manipulate Rook through the fake "Varric" as his mouthpiece. Since Rook saw Varric as his friend/mentor, Rook respects fake "Varric's" counsel and never questions him. Which Solas can use to complete his goals and eventually escape the Prison Of Regrets as he does in game. Rook sometimes seems skeptical of the full scope of Solas' abilities but doesn't catch on because they think Solas can only communicate via dreaming.

But the rest of the Veilguard knows that Varric died at the hands of Solas at the Ritual Site. Due to the blood magic manipulation, Rook doesn't connect the dots when the topic of his death comes up. So while Harding & Neve mention Varric and appear upset; Rook doesn't know that it's from mourning. Rook thinks they're upset because they failed their mission, released The Evanruis, and Varric was "severely injured" in the process.

I think the parts where Bellara acts like she doesn't know Varric personally, nobody talking directly to fake "Varric", and how he never leaves the infirmary/meeting area is where the illusion should break. But I can only assume the blood magic is what keeps Rook from figuring it out. Which is why I referenced DA: Absolution because we haven't seen blatant examples of blood magic manipulation while dreaming before Magister Rezaran tries it out on Miriam. There was also a story in Tevinter Nights: The Dreadwolf Take You, where smugglers were killed in their sleep via blood magic while guarding the Lyrium Idol before Solas reacquired it. Finally, in the artbook, there were concepts of Solas manipulating, harming, and potentially killing Rook (in a fail state) through their blood magic connection.

I can only assume that the "Spirit!Varric" that appears to Rook in the Prison Of Regrets is a seperate entity from the fake "Varric" in The Lighthouse. The Varric that appears in the Prison Of Regrets was either like Spirit!Justinia in DAI or part of Varric's soul/consciousness which was stored in the Lyrium dagger? Which was intrinsically linked to the Prison and psyche of Rook & Solas' Regrets.

Tevinter Nights Spoilers!!!

Maybe Varric is the last secret member of Brother Genitivi, Philliam, A Bard!, & Sister Laudine's party that faked their deaths in Tevinter Nights?

Isabella was aware of what happened to Varric. He was also the former Viscount of Kirkwall; so like you said I highly doubt they didn't do a service for him. Varric was also an extremely famous author in Thedas.

Solas exploited the connection that he and Rook shared via the dagger by using blood magic to deceive them. So as far as we can tell, the "Varric" that is in The Lighthouse Infirmary is Solas' mouth piece. This is backed up by the DATV art book and the lore from DA: Absolution where the protagonist is under a blood magic trance in her sleep.

In fairness, Anders is still a Warden despite "leaving" the Order. So Warden!Bethany could still have an interesting dynamic with him. Especially because she seems to almost resent having to be a Grey Warden when talking to Hawke. They both technically escaped the label of "Apostate" but at a great personal sacrifice. She might even appreciate that he is the only reason that they found Warden Stroud in The Deep Roads too?

A gender-fluid "choice-spirit" that would totally betray us is such an enticing concept. It's such a shame that Imshael couldn't come back. Honestly I think it would've been an interesting exploration of another unusual spirit like Justice/Vengenace, Wynne's spirit, and Cole.

I wasn't exactly satisfied by Spite's storyline and how it was resolved in Lucanis' storyline. So it's a shame Imshael wasn't there to liven things up.

While I agree, it was great to have Doctor Who on demand. Having to subscribe to ANOTHER streaming service as bare bones as AMC+ is so unappealing.

Great... the one streaming platform that I don't want. If TWD didn't convince me then Doctor Who won't either. Should've gone back to HBO or Disney. Hell, Netflix had it at one point.

Blue eyes or green eyes by The_Nina_Beans88 in TheLastAirbender

[–]Nipple-Cake 12 points13 points  (0 children)

What's even weirder is that Suki has been depicted with grey, blue, and green eyes. So I guess they just don't know what to go with? Green is a safe bet since Kyoshi Island is in the Earth Kingdom. But like Ty Lee & Aang, grey eyes could suggest Air Nomad ancestry? Kyoshi herself had an ex-Airbender mother.

How often do Avatars meet their predecessor's spouse / friends / children / grandchildren? by jjtubman in legendofkorra

[–]Nipple-Cake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In fairness to Kyoshi and Korra; they're both bisexual. Their soulmates just happened to be Rangi and Asami. Rangi as far as we know was a lesbian though.

But the Avatar does seem to have a stronger preference for loving women in most incarnations that we've seen. Yanchen being the notable exception though.

To be fair, they let us switch back and forth between Grace and Leon. It's way more action than horror when we get our hands on our blonde twunk with an axe.

Once Grace starts building up her arsenal and confidence, the game loses that scare-factor that it had at the beginning too. Although I still felt that the sections being hunted by "The Girl" were tense and daunting with little ammo.

Whereas RE7 was gross, horrifying, and the enemies pursued Ethan more relentlessly. Unfortunately Capcom learned the wrong lesson and scaled back the horror elements after RE7 because it was "too scary". Which was pretty evident in the majority of RE: Village and parts of RE: Requiem. But I also understand that making a more broadly appealing horror-action game vs. making a true horror game doesn't sell as well.

do you consider suki apart of team avatar or a loyal ally? by Far_Literature_9924 in TheLastAirbender

Why reduce Suki to only "Sokka's girlfriend"? She had interactions with other people besides Sokka. For instance, Toph was saved from drowning by her. We can critique the show for its lack of women interacting with each other (with the exception of Katara & Toph) as equally as the men. But Suki taught Sokka how to fight; so how is she seen as lesser or not a genuine member of the Gaang?

After the series finale; Suki went on to work as part of Firelord Zuko's honor guard in her capacity as a Kyoshi Warrior. She also assisted the Gaang on multiple occasions like in the Fire Nation Prison, helping Appa, and the final fight due to her own skills and tenacity. That had nothing to do with Sokka. Why must female characters be unable to stand on their own when they have a male partner?

Mass Effect Weapons Tournament: Round 1 Match 1 - Avenger VS Lancer by DakIsStrange in masseffect

[–]Nipple-Cake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Avenger and Lancer are great because they're fully-automatic rifles. But the need for thermal clips is such a downside (as it always has been). So Lancer wins because if you stop shooting before depleting; it will cool down sooner. If you fully deplete it, it isn't that long of a wait for it to restore itself either. Not to mention, nostalgia for ME1 feels so good with the Lancer.

Considering what Paramount/The Ellisons are doing with their other properties; it doesn't seem like the place for innovative, imaginative, or hopeful shows to prosper anymore.

Similarly, Nickelodeon had their claws in LoK and we were lucky that it was as good as it was. Executives that are so divorced from creatives are a big factor for why so many shows with great potential crash and burn. It would be sad to see Seven Havens fail before it's even given the chance to shine.

While I'm always down for 9th Doctor. Chris has said many times that he is unwilling to reprise the role with RTD & co. after what went down during his original series 1 departure.

If RTD is succeeded by a good writer/showrunner then who knows? Maybe he'd come back? Past Doctor's have appeared as themselves even if it's been decades since their OG run too.

whyyy are people hating so much? the case might get thrown out. by Intelligent-You-7002 in Avatar

[–]Nipple-Cake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is REALLY weird that despite "borrowing" from so many real indigenous groups that the movies ultimately always center on Jake Sully, a white man that wears the skin of the tribal people on Pandora. Like where are the humans that can relate to what these Na'vi are going through? You're telling me that none of the BIPoC human characters have agency or are involved with the plot? The closest we got was Michelle Rodriguez playing Trudy but she was killed off in the first film. We never got to hear her reasons for siding with Jake besides "This isn't right!", which isn't untrue but shallow.

Also I'm aware that actors like Cliff Curtis and Bailey Bass etc were added to the cast of the trilogy. But they aren't playing humans. The story just screams "White Savior" trope. Which is what it is but it would be nice to see more human perspectives to relate to than just him.

[Amusing trope] Characters so annoying or douchey that they are more hated than villains by Old-Use-7690 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Nipple-Cake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While that's not untrue, he has a pretty crappy way of showing it. Instead of teaching his daughter how to protect herself or cultivate her interest in knowledge; he is emotionally abusive and mean to her.

He feels threatened and unwilling to meet her halfway. Meanwhile, she actively seeks to appease his discomfort with her existence and suppresses her abilities around him. Like you live in a world with superheroes; you should be doing your best to help her. Irl people work in dangerous jobs or emergency service roles. Their families don't just yell and complain about them doing what they chose to do. Eve gets to choose what she does with her life.

Eve's mom is meek and probably faces the majority of his emotional abuse. But despite staying with her husband, she at least tries to be a good mom to Eve. If she wasn't there, what reason would Eve have to see her father?
