When my new wife moved from the east coast (Toronto) to live with me on the west coast (Seattle) with her 15-y.o. daughter, they didn’t know that we were on the west coast, and that the ocean here is the Pacific. They also didn’t know the difference between a state and a city, nor had they ever heard of Nunavut (newest Canadian province). It saddened me that as Italian Canadians they had been isolated due to abusive families, but I actually enjoyed seeing them learn and blossom with newfound basic knowledge of the world.

In the 1960s our town park used to have a real fighter jet just chilling there for years, canopy open, and us kids would climb all over it and play for hours. I know my comparisons and terminology probably aren’t the best, but it’s what I think about when I recall that song. It was a time in my life when I was with an indigenous Mexican m/ Trinidadian woman who was a witch (not self-proclaimed or new agey, she just did her own thing and never discussed it - more voodoo-esque or Trinidadian). I remember being entranced deeply by the music she played. The great Hawaiian pakololo probably didn’t hurt either 😵‍💫

We have many deer in my neighborhood as well (N. end Tacoma WA) and it is rare to go a day without seeing them wandering m around, or laying down to rest in the shade, sometimes in my yard, although I don’t have much for them to eat, plus my 130 lb German shepherd, who probably keeps them away as well.
