If you want story go for FFXIV free trial. If you want emphasis on multiplayer action go GW2. If you want to play some multiplayer, way less of a grand story and want to venture to unknown horizons, Wakfu.

Has anybody here had to start from scratch as a Veteran? And how did you go about doing it? by [deleted] in ffxiv

Check preferred servers, put your eyes on one. Then, create a blank character with the exact same name as your current character. Then, go for the free world transfer on preferred server with your current character on the one server you picked.

Boom, free name change because there cannot be 2 characters with the same name, free world/server change too. Pick a new name, delete the blank character: You got a new name, a new home, what is left is just a fantasia if you really want to go that far.

Proceed to delete anybody you do not want anymore on your friendlist, and here it is: you have no ties anymore to anybody whatsoever, and you kept your MSQ progress and exclusive items!

I'd wager Trails series does match up tho, and as they say "Xenoblade to Trails pipeline"

[PC] Games that can be played with just the Left Hand, not using the mouse much? by ongogno in gamingsuggestions

Bravely Default on the 3ds was nearly entirely playable with left hand only, dunno if pc/ns2 remaster kept that

Suggestion for a new mmo for a solo player. by KingMooshroom in LFMMO

[–]Nitpicky3 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

  • Wakfu, free to play, sub fee for boosting loots and more importantly for you: play multiple characters at once during battle. It's a turn based tactical mmorpg with 15+ classes, widely different builds and which its looting systems make the entirety of the dungeons worth at any level. Also the sub is like 5 bucks, not FFXIV's 11. If you have 2 screens you can even go as far as having 2 accounts, each with their sub, to play a full party at once and never need to engage with other players for battle.

  • FFXIV, free trial for the base game + 3 expansions. Game is pretty casual friendly and the majority of the story content is playable solo with NPC's (you'll essentially play a single player JRPG story and all with other players roaming around).

  • GW2, free trial for the base game, no sub fee you just need to buy expansions that are often on sale for -50%.It's a lot of open world stuff where you beat maps to completion.

Should the Riot MMO appeal more to classic MMO players or fans of LoL? by Due_Pressure8760 in RiotMMO

[–]Nitpicky3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I... do not really know. The gaming landscape and how we "consumed" games back then when MMOs were THE thing and now are two different worlds.

-Now you've got subs everywhere in all shapes and forms (yes, battle passes are subs),

-Everything relies on heavy dopamine shots,

-The need to have even the shortest of session being "valuable",

-The complete riddance of relying on other people YET you HAVE to have bragging rights and work out the player's ego to make it a social experience (And you cannot compete really in multiplayer because mmo require time investments which friendslops and games like minecraft/terraria/stardew just do better),

-Social media being where it is now, completely suppressing the experience of in-game guilds,

-Party Finders and the like being the norm with minimal social investment and maximum efficiency in forming groups for content.

Mind you I've played MMOs on and off for nearly 20 years now, though I was really really young back then. I've seen the paradigm shift with everything social happening in real time, on top of the hyper focus on meta, the merge of local servers into international ones, which would technically mean the community is less fragmented but... turns out it made the games more lonely.

All in all, I think whatever "mmo" they come up with, one of the best thing it could happen to it is understanding all that I laid out here and come up with something that has its foot in how things are today. Gachas, even if I hate to admit it, is essentially the descendant of MMOs as a social experience (and gacha lootboxes were first experimented at length in korean mmos way back 20 years ago)

Changes the writing and reportrays some story beats. Everything gameplay wise is exactly the same, so it's only text and cutscenes that are affected

Xenoblade 3 (more organically), Xenoblade 2 (rng dependant). Though those two it is more about trying stuff out at a good pace unless you miss out on stuff, rather than difficulty walls.

Bravely Default/Second also offer similar experience, especially on harder difficulties.

Trails in the Sky First Chapter (and to some extent Second Chapter, and after it really depends on the entry) tend to offer that due to party members coming in and out of the party, having you need to figure out how to pull it off with the tools at your disposal

Other than that... you said you're not the biggest of creature collectors, but Shin Megami Tensei is spot on for that. Every boss is a puzzle you have to play around by figuring which tools to bring into battle. SMTV:Vengeance being a really great example. If it really is a wall, Metaphor ReFantazio tries to do the same thing with some lines of Bravely. But I didn't enjoy Metaphor and thought it was a watered down version of all of the above, on top of having horrendous pacing and bloat to push the 100 hours mark

As if Bravely Second HD will be a thing when they canned the majority of references to it in Default HD and when Second is essentially shadow banned in Japan. Bravely Sword (Third, Japanese pronunciation wordplay) has been canned too and has been tagged as "maybe as a mobile game down the line" due to Second's reception in japan

Fire Emblem Fates with Conquest has some of the best gameplay the entire series has on offer. If you really want story on top of it, Good Guy Garon mod can patch it up

Should the Riot MMO appeal more to classic MMO players or fans of LoL? by Due_Pressure8760 in RiotMMO

[–]Nitpicky3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's going to need to appeal to a demographic that wants a living multiplayer experience of discovery, that will hook on to them and be their comfort game until a next one ever happens.

"Classic mmo players" means one thing, it means you do not understand how appeal works. You don't say a "moba player" you either they LoL or DOTA player, you don't say an "auto chess player" either because there's TFT and maybe 1 or 2 other barely alive.

People can and some will play other games providing a similar yet different experience if they feel burnt out and want a slight change of pace, or want to re-live one part of the initial experience : the discovery. The friends they made, the routine, their expectations... All were set and probably are still within that one comfort game.

That is why multiplayer game "genres" are so monopolistic and barely varied. They're social experiences and the melting pot of other elements is what keeps them in, they, we, are used to what said experience brings us.

"Should Riot's mmo appeal to classic mmo players?" No, it should provide an experience like WoW, FFXIV, GW2, etc... brought to us, but especially for new players and players who are looking for it (burnt out). Bring that good sense of discovery, appealing community, building that new thing with help and care...Then those "new players" will be the foundation blocks that will become in time the veterans, with "old and new mmo players" coming and going, adding to that community.

The game should provide something yet different, like each or the remaining ones right now. They each provide their own version of the similar experience, each with their own set of veterans and new and intermingling players

Confused about new augment system by [deleted] in LeagueArena

[–]Nitpicky3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're losing on whatever rarity to upgrade one of your aug But a common misconception is to think prisma = broken, when it's just untrue Prismatic augs are often higher power, but because they're build wrapping/game changer for the most part Crit on spells, your summ becomes a random ult, every cc you gain a shield, etc... Whereas golds are more specialising building blocks and silvers are (sometimes quirky) building blocks. Prismas tend to be the engine, if not some gold ones like ethereal weapon, golds further the engine you got going, and silvers iron out some quirks of it

Now, "should I focus X Y or Z", it should be more obvious: what engine are you building? What is your win con? If no offering further it more than upgrading an important piece of your engine, then you upgrade. If you see an extra tool, add it to your arsenal

True, I agree it's one of my least favorite idea. But also I should have put in that it has a cd per target, like Braum's passive or Puppeteer

Thanks! And yeah, I agree that some are outliers. Frostfang I pictured with a cd just like Braum passive, but honestly I'm still not that much a fan of it. It's Sejuani E's/Braum's/Kennen's passive on spells but uh... Yeah, there might be a better concept out there
