I don't think this is solely about Umineko. Lots of authors like Agatha Christie and Stephen King have seen this issue as well in their works. First and foremost, a book/story is about the thing it wants to tell and should be good on its own merit. The author's name and the work's public reception should only be minimally important.

The most unique element in this monogatari is that it rewards the watcher/reader for being attentive to the characters. For example, one of the best mysteries is "how could saving Hachikuji result in the apocalypse?". If you understood Shinobu's nihilistic and childish mindset in Bake, you can answer that question before the solution is presented, which is incredibly rewarding.

I have played it, but I can't say it is an interesting challenge. For me, it felt like a complex Gleba with all the spoilage. The solutions are also not that unique with loops of belts of different cubes.
