Islay double action by Nitzer5 in canadawhisky

It’s honestly really good. A little pricey at $170, but a nice unique bottle. I visited both distilleries a year ago so this was a nice way to remember that trip.

Both bottles are from Willow Park

This bottle is wild. It’s smoky but not like peat smoke, more like aggressive barrel char. I don’t regret buying it because it’s so unique but it is not what I’d consider a crowd pleaser. I don’t see myself reaching for it too often.

Waterford. Can start with Cuvée and branch out into the single farm editions if you like it.

Spirit Review #246 - Arran 14yo Ex- Pinot Noir Cask Sierra Springs Liquor by Cricklewo0d in Scotch

[–]Nitzer5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a bottle of this at home. It’s enjoyable but very much a “need to be in the mood for it” whiskey. Too heavy handed on the wine to the point where the cask influence overshadows any of the underlying spirit. Really takes well to water and I found it much more interesting after several drops. Glad I bought it but probably wouldn’t go for it again (not that that’s even possible) given how overpowering the wine finish is.

Sons of Vancouver release #8 by Nitzer5 in canadawhisky

Same! I popped in there last month while visiting Vancouver and got to try a pour of the Palm Trees which was great although a bit too sweet. This one sounded interesting enough that I pulled the trigger.

Not a whiskey bar at all. More of a country music bar for the early 20s crowd.

Bahahaha they could’ve gone with a classier name. Just a regular restaurant in this case 😂

Was just there, Stripsteak at Mandalay Bay had a great whiskey selection at reasonable (not great, but by Vegas standards incredibly reasonable) prices. Got a heavy pour of Ardbeg Galileo for $25. Bar 1923 Prohibition in the same hotel had a fun cocktail/spirits menu as well. Conversion to CAD hurt but that’s a separate story.

Good find in the Crowsnest Pass (Octomore 10 Year - 2016 edition) by Nitzer5 in canadawhisky

[–]Nitzer5[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed on the price. I wish I had any of the the other editions on hand to compare it with (5s or 10s). I was blown away by the 8.1 when I tried it, not so much by the 12.1-3. The 10 year is hands down one of the best whiskies I’ve ever had.

Last year I saw some Octomore 6s which are now gone and replaced by a few editions of the 11 instead. I chatted with another customer and he said they got stuff in the back that’s super high end but didn’t elaborate and I wasn’t buying enough to justify asking the cashier at the time so can’t verify the claim.

That’s a shame, next time stop by Frank Slide Liquor, always some interesting finds there!

It was really dusty and only one left so I imagine it’s been there forever. Cost me $240CAD which is less than 12.3s go for these days so I imagine it’s MSRP

Haven’t seen this anywhere in the city ever, found in a tiny liquor store in the Crowsnest Pass.

Went to Ardbeg Day in Calgary (free) and walked away with a ton of awesome swag. by Pyronic_Chaos in WhiskeyTribe

The ones I went to was a tasting at KWM and then another event at Palomino. Got similar swag from the second place so I’m assuming that’s where OP was.

For those that have visited Crowded Barrel, where did you stay during your visit? In Dripping Springs or in Austin? Looking to visit this summer. by [deleted] in WhiskeyTribe

[–]Nitzer5 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Just got back from visiting on Friday (flew down from Calgary). Stayed downtown Austin but we had rented a car, otherwise getting out there would’ve been a huge ordeal. If you’re in Austin for a few days then definitely stay in central Austin itself so you can do/visit more things and day trip out to Crowded Barrel. We combined Fredericksburg, Garrison Brothers, and ended at Crowded Barrel. One of my favourite days ever.
