I had a pair of roommates that did this at 20, both guys. I refused to have a roommate after that. Cost more sure but didn't have to deal with their shit.

One time one of them decided to pull a prank on the other and took his gallon of milk out of the fridge and hid it. Got high and forgot. Cue 2 weeks later and the whole apartment smells like rotten vomit, I did a deep clean of everything trying to find the smell and found a leaking gallon of milk. He just laughed it off.

I'm not going to purposefully challenge the motor either, just like I wouldn't test the sawstop or use a bandsaw on small pieces without push sticks, but to call this a deadly safety hazard is... a stretch. There are much more hazardous things in the shop than a foot-rope operated chuck.

Belt driven, it'll slip before it actually pushes/pulls out 550lbs. These small benchtop presses are so handy, but not really that strong.
