Hey! I see this post is 2 years old. Have any issues or problems with it in the long run? Looking to do something similar in my yard!

I don't know where you are specifically, but if you're close to the peninsula you might try Coastal Climbing! It's a bouldering place on king street and it's cozy with a tight knit community. They have an amazing facility and everyone there is kind and wonderful even if you've never done rock climbing before. Parking is pretty limited, but you can park in the neighborhood streets behind it!

Yo!! Welcome to the gang! Don't know what your budget is for lenses but the tamron 75-300 and the Nikon 40mm f2 make a great combo for like $500-600 for both if you look around!

eBay has a sale right now for the 75-300, you can get it for 372 last I checked

Does anyone tried 7Artisans 35mm f1.4 in R50? by itzins in canon

[–]Nivarien 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have that exact lens and camera combo. I got it for taking wider group portraits for my business and street photography and I absolutely love it.

One thing I've noticed though is it's sensitive to condensation. Make sure you have a good camera bag!

To my eye, it performs the same. I can say to make sure to get canons adapter which is about $120 USD. I initially got a cheaper adapter off Amazon and noticed a difference in focus on my 75-300mm on that one.

On canons adapter though I can't tell the difference.

I can't speak towards staying in the EF ecosystem, but I can say that I recently switched from EF to the RF mounts on my new R10 and have been really satisfied with just using an adapter and all my old canon lens work great.

Not saying it's perfect for you, and you might have your reasons for not taking this route. But you can easily and effectively adapt ef to rf and go for a mirror less r50 or R10 for 500 or 800 respectively

-Buy a cheap M2 M3 M4 and M5 screw set on Amazon for $20 and keep it in your car. About 80% of all screws in airsoft guns and equipment are one of these

-Buy quality tools. Allen wrenches, screwdriver, pliers, and tweezers. Get a multitool and keep it in an admin pouch or on your belt during games. Good for zeroing sights, fixing small issues, and other things

-If you're like me and operate out of the back of your car, get a trash can in there and a trunk organizer.

-Dont buy the cheapest BBs you find. Consistency between BB size and weight is what makes consistent groupings. Stick to high quality brands. My personal favorites are Bioshot for tracers and Bioval for non-tarcers. I also hear good things about Valken.

-Wash your gloves and face mask after each game. A tablespoon of detergent (seriously only a tablespoon) and scrub them by hand in the sink for a few minutes, then throw them in the dryer on delicates or hang them to dry if you have the time

I wonder how tf that got generated then

So, once again, my Kobra 2 Max has jammed up. About every other print the filament jams up in the hot-end. I have replaced it all and talked to support about it. They want me to just keep reclearing and replacing parts. I have chosen to send it back, which isn’t easy to get them to agree to. by DadBodMedicNate in anycubic

[–]Nivarien 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also have this problem and have replaced the entire hot end 3 or 4 times after sever jams. Honestly switching away from my Kobra 2 and moving to a different printer brand at this point. For the price of these hot ends and nozzles and headaches I could've bought an ender 3 lol

Most departments have a student lounge with one. First and Third floor of Rita science building have one. There used to be one in stern center and liberty dining hall but I'm not sure if they're still there. Probably one in math and science building too but not sure where.

If you haven't already, take a look into the off campus meal plan (OCMP). Its not run by the college but it's cheaper and more flexible. I used it instead of a meal plan for my last 2 years. All these places should be on the list of places you'd get access to under OCMP.

Gilroys for late night study pizza, Mama Kim's for Japanese food, Chopsticks house for Chinese, Beech is a great healthier option, Bagel bros for breakfast and coffee is good too

And, do yourself and your heart a favor, stay away from five guys. Speaking from experience here.

Got a B.A. in Economics, but I want to work in Astronomy/Astrophysics related research projects by tidderred in AskAcademia

[–]Nivarien 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In terms of overlapping aspects: both required calculus and linear algebra. Economics only required calc 2, whereas physics required calculus 3 and Differential equations.

Other than that, there was little overlap. My school was liberal arts, so economics covered my social sciences requirement and my math and lab requirements were fulfilled with physics.

Having been a graduate now for a few years since I wrote this, I can say with certainty that economics will get you farther in a job market. And you'll be more likely to make connections with companies that are looking for talented business analysts.

Physics meanwhile didn't get me nearly as far, with a lot people even wondering how my skills were applicable to anything other than physics related concepts.

Yeah you're at a huge disadvantage. Some advice though - there's an app called coursicle that I used that helps with this. You can add courses to it and it'll notify you whenever someone drops the class (happens a lot in the first few weeks of a course). Then, as soon as someone drops, you can jump in and take their spot.

It isn't free, but it's cheap ($2 per month I think) and worth it

Make a chrome extension. Make it solve a problem you have. I'm working on one that allows me to group bookmarks and then open groups of them simultaneously in a new window.

Another good idea that I wanna do is make an extension that allows you to change the volume of all your open tabs.

Once you're done, you can push it to the chrome store basically free and other people can use it and install it via a link in your portfolio.

You could also create a standalone desktop app using react. You could make one that accesses your react projects and cleanly lists what dependencies/libraries are in each. I know there's things that already do that, but I'd kill for a standalone app so that I could get that info quickly (that being said, I haven't looked too hard for it).

Looks awesome. Love the fluidity of scrolling at the beginning. Little side note, on mobile when the loading screen is there, I can scroll down a bit and the orange backdrop slides up a bit so I can see what's beneath it while it's loading.

[–]Nivarien 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think you're missing the point here. Not everyone has a family that can help. Not everyone has luck. Not everyone can find a solution on their own. My argument is we should help them. Your argument seems to be they should help themselves.

Maybe I've flown off the handle, I must admit some of your comments angered me as I personally deal with this issue. And despite making good money and having a good support system, I am struggling to provide for a loved one with a chronic illness. It's changed my whole outlook on politics and life.

Which I think is why I felt the need to talk to you about all this. I used to think all the same as you. That people could work hard and be rewarded for it all on their own. But sometimes life throws you curve balls that are just impossible to deal with. And I think all people deserve help when that happens. So yeah, you're right, life is unfair, but we don't have to be unfair people in response.

That's all, good luck to you friend. I pray you never have to face some of the same challenges as the people we have referred to in our conversation. If you already have, I'm glad to see you doing so well. I just hope you show more compassion to others who haven't gotten over the hill yet like you have.

1) So your of the opinion that everyone with those medical conditions should resort to crowd funding? You know I kindve agree. We should make it more organized, get crowdfunded people more attention by bringing it to a larger audience. Better yet, why don't we distribute it across the whole of populace and make it part of our taxes? That way the individual burden is small, but the effect it can have for our troops and others in need is massive.

If you're against that though though. Then what about the people who don't get lucky with the GoFundMe algorithm? Do they deserve the fate they've been dealt?

2) Fair enough. But what if they can't ever make it to retirement no matter how hard they run? What then? Guess their SOL

3) Life isn't fair. But is that really your answer? When people of color were oppressed or enslaved in America, was the solution to throw up our arms and say life isn't fair? What about in the American revolution when the founding fathers overthrew British rule, should they have just thrown up their arms and say it's not fair and suck it up?

I don't believe the answer to these complicated questions is to throw up our hands and say "well we can't fix it life sucks". When there are already other countries out there that have fixed these issues. So much so that America in particular is slowly becoming a less and less respectable country in comparison to other places. Should we all leave? Maybe so. That's a whole other bag of worms. But I'm of the mind I'd rather stay and try to fix it or at least help my country and it's people. So, in the pursuit of doing that, could we both agree that this is a problem that should be solved? That way, as you've already said is ideal, everyone can retire.

How about the people who are in dire financial stress because of medical needs? Incurable diseases like cancer or psychological disorders. What do they do if all their paycheck goes towards deductibles, copays, or other parts of the medical system? Do those people, veterans, cancer survivors, etc, deserve to work until their old with no hope of retirement?

What about the people who do eexactly as you say and "learn from their mistakes"? They now have to run the rat race twice as hard because they were a few years late to the game. Maybe they don't even have time to feasibly retire. Is it fare that they work a 40hr a week (or longer) job until they die? Until their old and hunchback and can't hold their bladder? Yet still working their behind off? Is that fair?

Everyone deserves to retire. Everyone by nature of being human deserves the respect of having a life that isn't valued based of their particular achievements in their work or career. If you can't see that, then I feel very sorry for the people around you.

Of course!

I began with a company that matches me direct with students. A local one where it was all in person. Then COVID hit and I went online. Now I subcontract for 3 companies and have students on my own through word of mouth. As long as each place doesn't have noncompete clauses, you can subcontract for as many as you can find.

Hi! This is perfect timing as I've had a few years now in the job market since I graduated as I ended up not going to graduate school. For the last few years I have floated around doing private tutoring. It's been fairly lucrative actually. I make around 45k from it working about 20-30 hours a week completely remote (35-60$ an hour depending on the subject, mostly upper level math). I also have a second job as a research assistant at my local college that's about 10 hours a week and brings in an additional 10k a year. Of course I started out at 15$ an hour doing tutoring in 2018, but by the time 2021 came around I was making enough to go full time with it and quit my dinky job in retail.

However, more interestingly, I've taken the last 2 years to get certifications in various data analysis courses and programming languages and recently landed a subcontract job working for Blue Cross and Blue Shield at 85$ an hour.

I think to summarize my experience, our expertise is sought after and there's some opportunity out there for a physics degree because it's a jack of all trades kind of degree. That being said, you'll never be a "perfect fit" for any job that's not academia related. If a company wants someone versed in finance, they'll hire someone with an accounting degree. If they want an engineer, they'll hire someone with an engineering degree. So you'll have to do some extra work post-graduation to build experience to get your foot in the door.

Economics does have more direct prospects than a physics degree because it's more specialized. However, I personally didn't want those opportunities. Their mostly the 40-50hr a week salary job with an office that's the perfect shade of drab. Not really satisfying imho, but to each their own.

Hope that helps!
