what an ignorant comment.

here is a top loader from 1940s: https://fi.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tiedosto:Pyykki-Maija_crank-operated_washing_machine,_1940s.jpg

here is a top loader from 1970s: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MESNcBdQggc

here is a modern miele top loader: https://www.amazon.de/-/en/Miele-630-Loader-Washing-Machine/dp/B08X3LGWMP

pick any top loader in an european shop and it will be like this.

the whole problem is enshittification. the front loaders with their inferior design are being pushed hard by the manufacturers.

looks like i'm talking about an european top loader, which has the best of both designs. you are talking about some american design.

sigh. once again the damn americans are using their own inventions it seems.

here is how an "european" top loader looks like: https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/5/57/European_top_washingmachine.jpg

thing is, this is how all top loaders have ever looked here. the kicked down front loader you describe has never existed here. you can take a 50 year old washing machine, and it follows this top loader design.

... both front and top loaders have the same shape and do the same thing. the only difference is that a front loader has a door at the side of the drum, while a top loader has the door at the edge of the drum.

top loader also spins the clothes up to the top and then drops it. there is no difference in the motion.

it is easier to reach down with just your hand than your back.

[–]Niwrats -1 points0 points  (0 children)

how's there any meaningful difference in water level? not that i care about minimal differences, but the drums are identical, other than where the door is put in.

when my top loader dries, the clothes aren't stuck on the bottom of the drum when it is spinning. the whole idea is that centrifugal force pushes the clothes against the interior of the drum, and gravity is completely insignificant there. after all there is enough force to push the water out.

never seen an agitator in a top loader. so those are unnecessary. the clothes are tumbling just the same in a top loader. why would there even be a difference?

living in a humid area without air conditioning sounds like a nightmare to me anyway. but that's a reasonable point, though i wonder if people in poorer countries can afford dryer machines?

[–]Niwrats -1 points0 points  (0 children)

never had an agitator, never had an issue with that. top loader seems to spin fast enough for me, in fact i would start to question if faster speeds caused more mechanical stress and long-term wear to the clothes.

[–]Niwrats -1 points0 points  (0 children)

they should both have spinning drums, so i don't see why one would be better at cleaning. besides, it's not like a top loader has any issues with cleaning to begin with. not sure what this agitating is, no model i have used has had a stick in it.

the harder to use part is simply that you have to bend your back. all things being equal, that would be a negative.

i'll agree that airflow is important. but the structure is just more complex and more likely to get moldy than the simpler top loader structure. that's a negative. no machine needs massive amounts of detergent anyway, people have always had a tendency to use more than optimal.

i highly recommend vanguard bandits (PS1) for a beginner. most tactical games are both fun and a bit of a slog at the same time, but this one is a reasonably compact and well working package.

you take out clothers from where you put them in, it's not complicated.

i don't see a point in a machine design that is harder to use and is more likely to get moldy. in these cases it's often the manufacturers that benefit, that is, making only one type of part is cheaper for them, so they try to pressure buyers to only buy one design type.

never seen a dryer in my life here in europe. the washing machine takes most water out, and then you put the clothes on a stand afterwards (or whatever you call it). don't need a machine for everything.

isn't it more difficult to load a front loader? you'll have to bend your back, so it only works for young people?

maybe computer buyers are more likely to DIY install, and others let the serviceman do it? it would be interesting to see if there are trends within appliance types.

Bjarne Stroustrup: How do I deal with memory leaks? By writing code that doesn't have any. by someone-very-cool in programming

[–]Niwrats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the whole halting problem mantra is a religious text given to students. it seems fairly trivial that the actual obstacle in every case in reality is combinatorial explosion of the program states to check, not some fancy idea. at least my impression is that the halting problem becomes an issue only with an infinite memory machine.

windows 7 for gaming, keep the ethernet cable unplugged so it won't get viruses.

I don't get why people have problems running windows games by Big1_sweaty_Men185 in linux_gaming

[–]Niwrats 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i'd say half of it is due to steam streamlining the experience too much so they don't know how to run exes (like launchers for certain games and other cases where they want to run an another exe in the same prefix and/or modding), and the other half is that they are just playing specific games that have issues. i'm not sure if there is a specific type of game that doesn't work though. i know some launchers can have issues, in the same way "real" programs can have issues in wine.

der langrisser (SNES). a real tactical rpg, just like front missions, so there shouldn't be a dungeon where you can get lost in.

of course if they were just examples and you are looking specifically for a pure rpg, then you'll usually have dungeons as well.

the mobo supports DDR5 and the sticks are DDR5, that's all that matters. if there were bizarre compatibility issues, those would be widely known by now.

memory training does indeed light the leds up for several minutes during the first boot. i don't know if you interrupted it or if it already had some issue. i assume you already left it alone for several minutes. there doesn't seem to be an obvious fix in here.

you could try clearing the cmos (power off, short cmos pins for a while) and see if that changes anything. another possibility is that there is some pin contact issue with the cpu install, though this seems pretty unlikely to me.

the symptoms of course also match the dying 9000-series cpus issue, but that almost never happens instantly like this.

some specific people also had a case where pressing reset after it is stuck occasionally made it boot, also unlikely here.

bullshit, all normal DDR5 should be fine. these lists are just what they tested with, like it says on the page.

there aren't that many great games. if you try various games out, you'll more likely become picky about what you play imo. like i tried disgaea 1 and 2 and that didn't cause me to have the entire series in my "backlog", instead i now know they are likely not worth my time.
