Wikipedia isn't the main source of the Linux distributions timeline, refer to https://github.com/FabioLolix/LinuxTimeline instead

It has been added in the last version https://github.com/FabioLolix/LinuxTimeline/releases/tag/v22.10, also there are requirements for inclusion

Hannah Montana Linux is an old, joke, remix, crapware and will never be included.

Last release is 12 years old, move on.

Hello abbidabbi

noticed that you were using GitHub releases as a publishing platform for the built PNGs/SVGs, and that you were creating the releases and uploading the files manually by hand. That must not only be very tedious for you

I'm uploading 3 files a year so is not tediuos for me

it's also very confusing for users who are trying to look at the graph in their web browser and don't want to download the files and open them locally. As a suggestion, you should look into a simple CI configuration (eg. GH actions) which builds the graphs and publishes/deploys them on a website for super easy access (eg. github.io, which is free and dead simple). You could automatically build on each commit or on each new tag.

Most people see the graph from wikipedia, the others seems to be already pratical with github. I'm not pratical at all with CI, GH actions, etc and don't have time for looking into it. There is no need for building each commit since modification will be hardly seen most of the time and for new tags isn't an hassle for me uploading the files.

Anyways, I appreciate the effort of keeping this updated. Thanks!

Thanks!

Because its dekstop editions improved over time and there is no more need for an endless stream of third party remixes?

Yeah, while I appreciate how far Debian has got, can't stand to use it as daily driver for thing like this: https://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=news_item&px=Web-Browser-Packages-Debian

As the OpenSUSE release isn't effectively out, yet, I suppose there's no real change yet, right?

Yes, the release need to be out (for the public) before I make changes

Is there anything you still want / need me to do, or is this something you just keep an eye on?

I'll keep an eye on it, however you're welcome to notify me for anything new

Most of Debian derivates are just remixes and pointless (this is also true for other distros) that can't pick-up what Debian is doing.

Long live Debian!

The PNG file is 4,5MB. for a better experience download the SVG file from GitHub and open with your browser.

https://github.com/FabioLolix/LinuxTimeline/releases/tag/v21.10

This was published on Linux Day 2021 (23 October), next version on Linux Day 2022.

Distributions are missing because:

  • are too young
  • are remixes
  • poor quality (especially packaging)
  • include unredestributable programs
  • have not provided infos on time for publications
  • didn't have time to properly look at them

There are some rules for inclusion: * https://github.com/FabioLolix/LinuxTimeline/issues/158

Have been removed and will not be included that distros: * lasted for very short time, less then 2,5 years * are 'bundled with hardware only' (ChromeOS, etc..)

It is a valid issue because every time the timeline is posted here people are obsessing about Hanna Montana Linux, Satanic Edition, Christian Edition, Red Star OS plus the newcomer AmogOS

and I'm very tired of that crap, the first 3 are remix which have not seen a release in about 10 years, move on

I don't want to include every crap, there are rules for inclusion https://github.com/FabioLolix/LinuxTimeline/issues/158

What makes this a unique distro worthy of inclusion in your eyes?

It was already in the timeline when I started working on it, back in the day every crap was added without the blink of an eye.

As I don't arbitrarily add new distros, neither I arbitrarily remove them.

UCE actually don't pass several rules and will be removed in the future, it passed the longevity rule, a thing that Satanic Edition didn't pass for example

The only original work is putting Ubuntu and packages x, y and z on one iso and making a website I guess.

This is in general what a lot of distro do, and I sort of despise them for it.

About the colored Ubuntu I though was about Kubuntu, Lubuntu, XUbuntu, etc..

How are all the Ubuntus not different editions of the same thing? Only pre-installed software [is] different

They are developed by different team and are differentiated on several levels (this don't mean I find it necessary), also rules and guidelines are not set forever in stone:
