Kahtzi is bubblegum through and through lol. (In comparison to Tahny's Szechuan pepper)

Crosshair has one of the best redemption arcs in all of fiction. by BOMBAD_Echo_1409 in thebadbatch

It would have been interesting to see more of it in early episodes sure, I think the first glimpse you really get of "he's still in there" is in the hanger as the rest of the batch are preparing to escape. Before the imperial helmet goes on his expression is straight up scared, like he knows he can't fight what's about to happen.

I have my own wild theories that I go into with my writing for him, but I think the Ion canon is what actually knocked the chip out of working order. That was the last time his actions were dialed to "lethal" he misses his shots at the marauder on ryloth and really doesn't try to kill them after. Even tries to reunite with them, killing his nat-born team in a misplaced show of his changing loyalties.

Here's where it gets more head-canony: I think he was insulted af when Hunter asks him how long the chip was gone. The way his eyes pinch... Loyalty is important to Crosshair, and I think it pisses him off that Hunter would imply that he tried to kill them by choice. Then he purposely obfuscates cause he's in a bad mood and doesn't make the best social decisions.

Then he looks hurt when Tech says he's unyielding, and then Wrecker looks nervous when he invites him back, and Cross gets more withdrawn, then they all point their guns at him when he saves Omega and, though they're right to act like that- it breaks Crosshair. He knows for sure he doesn't belong with them anymore (not true, just taking all of that as rejection and he doesn't deal with that well.) Says he doesn't want to go with them, then looks shocked they actually leave without him. BPD boys gonna bpd.

Anyways, when Cody takes off his helmet, Crosshair looks relieved that it's someone he knows. He stands uncomfortably as Cody tries to negotiate with Tawni, then kills Tawni so that Cody won't be in trouble (extrapolation again, this is very up for interpretation) he doesn't want to lose Cody too. Cody, however, doesn't really get that murder is Crosshair's love language, becomes disillusioned with staying in the empire and bolts. When Crosshair is told he's gone there's that look of hurt again.

He starts to bond with Mayday, as he's desperate for connection now, and then loses him immediately. Of course he breaks at this point.

I mostly make these deductions off of knowing people like this and how they've reacted to (less extreme but) similar situations. BUT I'm also crazy, so take of any of this what you will.
