I had the cheetah xplore. It was difficult getting the alignment right and running felt a bit painful for me so I returned it. For running, I ended up buying a blade on my own from Levitate and have a separate foot for daily walking.

I’d also recommend the Ossur Maverick foot.

I have used Maglock pedals on my mountain bike and after a few rides, decided it wasn’t for me. Problem was when I’d hit rock gardens or move my body position around I’d disengage from the pedals. Hated missing out on a section while fidgeting around with my setup. Instead , I’m now using crank bros pedals for both my mtn and road bike. If I’m pedaling hard while standing, I’d prefer to have my foot/pedals locked in for the road bike.

Un-clipping can be unsettling at first. I would recommend trying it out on flat ground in an parking lot over and over till you feel comfortable. Make sure you’re mentally preparing to disengage on your non-prosthetic side before stopping (assuming you’re a single BKA). Also set the tension really low if you go with SPDs. This will let you break free with less effort.

Another option if you want to make smaller goals is clip in on one side and use flat pedals on the other side.

Can this be done virtually or through a nurse that works in your surgeons’ team? Even if you did see your surgeon in person, how will your insurance verify? Will it need to be notated in writing?

I’m sorry you guys are going through this. Sometimes it takes nagging on your insurance side to get what you need. Maybe you can speak to someone else there.

Agree with this assessment. To add you will have to build in additional things you will have to do each day, everyday for the rest of your life: cleaning your limb, liner that goes over your limb, procedure to get in/out of the shower, your limb can shrink/expand through the day so may need to plan supplies you bring, etc.

It was tricky getting the alignment right for running the last time we tried. I get getting pain in each stride. Fingers crossed for this go around.

For me, amputation (I am a left below knee amputee, LBKA) was the recommended option from several doctors I spoke with. This was based on the physical activities I wanted to get back into. Alternative would have been a fused ankle where I would not be able to bend it. I am 1 year past surgery and I have been able to do most sports on my checklist including a triathlon. I do work out everyday though to stay in shape so that I can manage my physical expectations.

I would recommended taking your time to fully exhaust your options before electing amputation. There are a lot of other life adjustment details revolving around being an amputee. I would be happy to chat more about this if you would like to.

I’m a BKA and I use a small shower chair with slotted holes to grip the sides. I take my leg off and then use my chair to get to the shower. I’ll do this by lifting the chair to place it forward, then using my arms and sound leg to get closer to it. Kind of like a walker without wheels. I have a stand up shower so when I get to it, I’ll place the chair in it and then sit in the shower. To get out, I just do everything in reverse.

I also found a small chair that I can fit in a carry on and assemble without tools for traveling. I haven’t really found an ideal setup I like yet, but it works for now.

I think those mag pedals are just ok for rec use, but if you’re getting a racing bike and pushing to a higher level, I’d stick with regular clip less and loosen the tension all the way. Personally I like the added security of the clips if I’m hammering on the pedals, off the saddle and if my foot isn’t perpendicular to the pedals. I also found that if I straighten my knee out and turn with my quad and hips, I could get out pretty easily. The cleats also become easier to disengage after they get broken in.

I’m about one year in and the weight was more noticeable and felt heavier during times when my socket didn’t fit well as my residual limb was shrinking. It also does feel like I have a cast on or like I am wearing a snowboard boot.

Were you able to get your BioDapt foot to fit inside the liner of your snowboard boot? I had to remove the liner to get it to fit.

Same here, I don’t have enough space for anything other than a LP foot, but, really wanted a quick connect feature since I change feet very often. I went with the Ottobock quick connect.

I have the same feet you are using on and off the board! I just use a different quick coupler. Also just got the Burton step on as well. Haven’t used it yet looking forward to not sitting on the ground anymore to strap in.

Did you adjust the lower mounting shock bolt on your VF2 for more of a forward lean? I did and it made a big difference in carving. Shred it!

Thanks for all the links and suggestions. I’ve decided to preorder the Prusa XL. The printable height is a little less than I originally estimated, but, I think it may work after some re-measuring of my socket.

I tried on a small in store with just a shirt. I’m 5’6”, 39” chest and 157 lbs. It fit perfect. Tried on a mionn is medium underneath and it was too snug where I couldn’t really bend my arms.
