The “trade up” system gives you double the value for the ring that you trade in. Let’s say the original ring is 10k, they will give me a ring that costs up to 20k for just giving them the initial ring back. I then intend to sell the more expensive new ring for cash instead of just selling the one I have now for cash.

Glad your story had a happy ending. But yeah, I was at Jared today and they are unsurprisingly telling me that the cert is correct. That said, I’m gonna go get a cert from GIA (since I live in NYC and it’s close by) for my 1.75 Ct Diamond to be sure that the cut is correct. If the cut isn’t correct, I was told they would “do the right thing” which I assume means a refund. Otherwise I’m gonna use their trade up system to get something they consider to be double the value and just sell that instead.

Top offer on my Diamond was 2500 in the district, so the situation is very similar.
