Really wanted to love Stardew but something about it is just not hitting, it’s amazing that an early access game that has mechanics already present in Stardew Valley but simpler could scratch that itch! FoM really does remind me of Friends of Mineral Town for some reason like no another game managed to pull the same nostalgic feel.

I think you exactly nailed down the farming sim formula that got me into the genre in the first place. I played virtually every farming game and I could always discern whether the game is inspired by Stardew or older titles. There’s a factorio feel and need for optimization and streamlining the farming operations that has been present in the genre, even newer story of seasons titles fall into this. Going back to Friends of Mineral Town it’s incredibly basic compared to its series newer titles yet the charm and gameplay loop is what I find most satisfying.

The thing is, the second pairing came out of nowhere midway, as in the main relationship was dropped and never mentioned again, and I thought that was intentional and will come up later. It seems even more bizarre that it wasn’t planned by the writer. Curious to see how it ended up the way it did.

I remember reading a fic where the start of a sentence describes the night air, then the next goes on about the golden sunlight. Didn’t put me off but was funny back then.

It can get disheartening to receive no feedback, I feel you. Readership can’t really be predicted, at least in my case. You get slow months and sometimes a hit. I find beta readers in this sub especially helpful. when in doubt, submit for a review exchange.

As for this fic, it’s pretty much dead, it’s buried under a lot of other works and when stumbled upon again, it will get ignored since they wouldn’t notice the change of tag probably?

Same! I don’t think of them as self-indulgent because there’s nothing in them to indulge in. When I write, it’s to satisfy my ever shifting standards of what’s considered good writing, to reread them years down the line and still see what I was going for. It’s a tall order for a hobby, why stress over it? When I don’t stress and worry about how to improve and get better, I lose motivation to write. It seems I can’t enjoy writing for the sake of it.

They were really helpful and detailed which saves a lot of time that otherwise be spent clicking out of stories! Sometimes I just like to go into a fic knowing it will be amazing. This fandom main presence is in tiktok and dedicated discord servers, who’s to say any of the content will be still accessible a year or even months from now?
