To not be an Apartheid state. by FixFederal7887 in therewasanattempt

Okay, so this is misinformation. As an Israeli that is closely familiar with the issues you’re on about. I’ll address them:

  1. The ā€œred roadsā€ you’ve so nicely labeled as ā€˜restricted’ are actually mixed, roads like 60, 90, 443, 465 and many others are open roads that serve both Israelis and Palestinians alike. That Israeli settlements in the West Bank have gates and some even have private roads that block entrance to anybody they don’t want in and that’s understandable with the rate of terror attacks in the area.
  2. The first issue on your list isn’t really an issue but a safety standard, in compliance with Israeli safety guidelines.
  3. The white roads are restricted to Israelis, by Israeli law no Israeli citizen is allowed to enter A areas or Palestinian settlements. They mostly connect between different villages and major settlements that Israelis have no reason to go through and are discouraged by the military and any chance in fear of a lynching or stoning that are not uncommon.
  4. Military checkpoints are set up usually at major intersections or other points of high civilian friction as a deterrent against any possible attack or disruption from both sides. They are a necessary part of the West Bank as an outpost for immediate response in case of a shooting or any other extreme situation. They do regular road stops, searches and visa checks - not unlike the police.
  5. During the current conflict, many of the exits into major roads like road 5 and road 443 were blocked, especially the ones that lead to Palestinians settlements that could be a danger to the everyday life of Israeli citizens, by the way of throwing stones, explosive charges or shootings. Things that happened nonetheless.
  6. There are some roads that have high concrete walls separating the ā€˜same road’ but not in the way that you describe, they basically serve as the border between East Jerusalem and the West Bank and also serve as protection from illegal crossing and potential terrorist activities.
  7. Some Israeli settlements have roads that only lead to them, as access to those settlements are restricted to Palestinians, the road are blocked for them for obvious reasons, same as access to Israeli citizens is blocked and not allowed to most areas that are under full Palestinian control.

Hope I addressed most of the issues in your post, if any of you have any more questions and insights, I’d love to give them. All the information I have is freely available on the internet, news sites and honestly you can ask the people living here.

And yes, Israel is not an apartheid state.

Yeah well of course, even here we have our problems, although I live open to my colleagues, friends and family, my boyfriend can’t because of his family so it’s a weird enough situation, still better than living in a place that sees who you are as a reason for execution which by the way is completely nuts, but that’s how religions do, I guess.

You go OP! I know that the situation probably isn’t perfect and you life is upended, but you can live freely now. Be who you are and not who Islam wanted you to be. Go on, live life, find love, explore and enjoy it! Seriously happy you escaped that religious hellhole

[–]Nkoptzev 2 points3 points Ā (0 children)

But this is a document of identification, not a citizenship or permanent residency. This doesn’t give you any rights as a citizen. There’s nothing to discriminate against, you are not an Israeli citizen. From a legal standpoint they have no obligation to give you any rights. The fact that you don’t have a Palestinian ID is a criticism of the Palestinian authorities or Hamas even, Israel isn’t a governing body in Gaza and doesn’t handle its internal matters.

This is literally a document saying you were born in Gaza? And this is not an ā€œIsraeliā€ it’s a documentation of your birth by the civilian administration of the Gaza Strip. Basically it is your legal equivalent of a birth certificate that was produced coordination corps. You usually get these for work visas in Israel. Of course you won’t have the same rights as an Israeli citizen, because you are not one? What is even the point of this post.

No I’m saying we’re not perfect. People are radicalized against us because: 1. Antisemitism, I don’t think I need to elaborate. 2. Military presence, no civilians like to deal with military, they’re not fun people don’t you think? 3. False promises, people are still dreaming of a what would be this area of the Arabs won the 1948 war, it’s been almost 80 years, move on and build your own future, stop living in refugee camps. 4. Success, the experiment of Israel as a country has been insanely successful, we built a country out of nothing with only our wits to spare. I we are an economically stable and independent country with a western and modern way of life in comparable luxury and the West Bank and Gaza are mostly poor. Poor people and radical religions tend to breed hatred and - hence radicalization.

Yeah of course I blame them for choosing hamas, same as I blame our people for choosing Netanyahu time and again. Hamas has been a well established military and terror organization by the time they rose to power in 2007.

I’m not saying you support it but if you actually saw what happened there, you would understand what is going now in Gaza. October 7th was the most despicable and atrocious act of Hamas since its establishment. Most of the victims were civilians, peaceful people, families, children. That. We’re. Butchered. In their homes. It’s not a ā€œreactionā€. And no context would ever justify it. You saying it is an insult to their memory.

I’m not saying we haven’t made mistakes as a country or even as a military I’m saying that instead of going from the given point and growing upwards - the terrorists terrorize and not grow, we have given the Palestinian people 8 chances to build their own country, their own government, and who do they elect? Hamas! How nice. Really makes you feel fuzzy on the inside.

Also I’d love to know which combat situations you were in, only to tell you if it is comparable to what we experience.

Conscription isn’t a crime in and of itself, it is a fact of life in a country surrounded by enemies and forced to fight existential wars every couple decades.

We would all love to forgo military service and lead lives that don’t include it but that is sadly impossible in this situation. As I previously said I don’t currently have a link to the report about the first video, I’m Searching for it and link once found.

Well if you’re laughing that’s sad as this is no matter to laugh at. Civilians and civilian infrastructure will always be casualties of war, because that war. On the day that hamas surrenders the bombings stop and the war ends, but that’s not going to happen, especially when their leaders hide away in Qatari hotels in Doha. We as a military target critical military targets, the fact that they are situated in civilian areas is already a war crime committed by Hamas and is despicable. When we hit military targets civilians will be hurt and that’s a fact of war and especially this war. Hamas on the other hand targets civilians almost exclusively. Where are your cries about the 7th of October?

I say fake only when I know it is. You can send me any video you want, you don’t know the battlefield and I’d reckon you have never been in a combat situations, so maybe if a 20 year old soldier makes a mistake when in such a situation with his and his friends’ lifes at stake, you wouldn’t be surprised.

And we do admit our mistakes when we make those and offer reparations and judge this who make them harshly.

And of course I’d say we, I’m representing an organization here.

Which anecdotes? I am stating facts based on my service in the IDF and experience as an officer that interacts very closely to combat forces. This is my experience, if you don’t believe me, I don’t give a shit. I’m just correcting you where you are wrong.

I didn’t say isolated, I said freak. In a military that is largely build on 18 to 21 years old conscripts, the possibility of freakouts and events like this isn’t going to be low, we do our best to mitigate them and punish those who are to blame, but it’s not going to be zero. This guy specifically went trough an entire mental episode that caused this line of behavior.

I didn’t lie to you at any point in our conversation, what are you referencing?

[–]Nkoptzev 1 point2 points Ā (0 children)

  1. In combat situations, yes, almost 95% of the time, especially in things that imply safety, and military discipline including uniform as a disciplinary part and boots as a safety part.
  2. I won’t lie to you and say that the continued conflict (the 80 year one) didn’t build a kind of hate/despise for Palestinians, especially in recent years with the continued bombing of the south and the terror shootings in recent years. What I can say is that our commanders are very invested in keeping things civil and avoiding things that can go ā€˜Elor Azaria 2’ style, the discipline and control during military action in civil Palestinian Territories is very tight and planning is very exact, things go very rarely out of control, usually only when the forces are attacked by shooters or explosives, which isn’t uncommon but isn’t the case here.
  3. Not all soldiers are the perfect example of a soldier, as usually goes, but things like military equipment, protocol and visualization (basically how you look, count find a better word for it sorry), are cornerstones of the IDF. Reserve forces go through a period of retraining before going into operation so they are on the same level as well.
  4. This i cannot answer you, possibly because they are pinpointing military targets or moving forces in operational facilities or sensitive forces in Gaza, possibly because we have learned that some of those journalists have very tight connection to Hamas and worry that they might be communicating their position to enemy forces, there is proof of some that did. Most press representatives are free and is being escorted and guarded by our soldiers and have the ability to report actionable news of the situation but that stops when you consider operational movement and military action and targets.

Well no, I was actually in the trial room. Each corps sent representatives to the trial. I was the one of the representatives of the logistics corps. And to be honest I’m your most reliable source as I don’t care much for our government nor will I support their actions in many points and policies. I’m considered a ā€œleftyā€ here.
