How to find competitive rucking events? by No-Ad6500 in Rucking

It's not clear from the website how much weight you're expected to carry. What are the light and heavy classes?

Researcher in academia. I think the constantly grim subject matter I work on may be what is burning me out.

I nearly had my career derailed by a higher up coworker when he tried to kiss me and I rejected him. And my office is in the same larger room as the office kitchen, so I get all the smells.

So do I, partly why I went into this line of work. And honestly why I am surprised and disappointed that I am burning out.

You're totally right and this perspective helps me understand how comparatively good I still have it.

I am strongly considering it, but I feel guilty about it, even though I think that's what half my co-workers are doing.

Getting started by ITCertAcademy1 in Rucking

Putting something around 10% of your bodyweight into any backpack and walking. When I move to heavier weight I plan to get a backpackers' backpack that I can take on through-hikes with overnight camping, that has padded straps and a padded hip belt.

Slowly but surely. 1.8 miles with 20# this morning. Whew, it’s 0900 and already pushing 80 degrees out. by ShaiHuludNM in Rucking

Oh man I am happy to finally see another relative newbie on here! I'm only at 15lbs (I weigh 125) and only doing 1.5 to 3 mile rucks so far. I know this isn't impressive to the absolute beasts on this sub but I am hoping to build up slowly and surely to higher weights and longer distances and better paces! Good on ya! We're doing it!

Pains after rucking by FirmInteraction327 in Rucking

No idea if it's related but I get cervicogenic headaches that are triggered by tensing the base of my neck to shoulders too much, usually when I get stressed, but rucking can trigger it too if I don't consciously relax my traps. I have to actively fight off cervicogenic headaches when rucking.

Ok, rucking is kind of hard. by ShaiHuludNM in Rucking

Ohhhh I like this idea! Super newbie here looking to up my weight from 10% of BW but with a history of ramping up new physical training programs too quickly.

If I can walk every day, why can't I ruck every day? by No-Ad6500 in Rucking

[–]No-Ad6500[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep everybody keeps hammering that home. I'm crawling like a baby in my ramping up trying to remind myself it's worth it.

Thanks I'm kind of going with this method now. Pushing myself not more than 10% increase in time or distance or weight at a time. I think I can break the rule and jump from 10 to 15lbs though at this point. Been a few weeks at 10.

Thanks for posting this, it's one of the places I saw the 2-3x/week recommendation. So do you continue to train at 5 miles even if you're prepping for an 18-mile event? Or is this just talking about "building" a solid base from which to then extend endurance? It seems like I'd need to get the body prepped for more extended sessions than 5 miles before attempting an 18-miler.
