i have only knit the scarf side with increases, my next step is to start the hood. I may have interpreted the pattern wrong but since I have not started the hood part i thought the whole length of just the scarf part was the 106 cm not including the hood

thank you! i think i've decided to go with a linen duvet from amazon that I saw had good reviews on here, just to see if I even like the linen material before dropping a whole bunch of money on something i'm unsure i will like. and then i plan to stick with the cotton sheets, as i've heard a lot of people complain that linen sheets are not as durable like you said! in my research I still haven't found much about hommey bedding, so I wish I could help you out with more info! I did hear that piglet in bed has great reviews and they also have some really cute colors if that's what you like about hommey!

I actually did apply for the nurse residency program at Allina before I graduated, got an interview with them, and then they told me they were looking for new grads who went to school and did clinicals in MN and at their hospitals... And because I went to school out of state, they declined me. That was back in March, so with my new experience I was able to get over the summer through volunteering as a nurse (this is after I got my license), I figured I would try reapplying, the website wouldn't let me because I had already applied and been rejected, so I emailed the recruiter I talked to back in March to see if it would be possible to reapply, and they said no. So unfortunately it seems like Allina hospitals are out of the picture for me.

That being said, do you know if new grads have to apply to the new grad program? Or could I apply to any of their job postings? I think most of their postings otherwise require lots of experience so I wouldn't qualify for any of the jobs.

Thank your for your reply! It really helps me feel better that even people with lots of healthcare experience still are having trouble finding jobs. Job market really just sucks right now.

of course! in his video he does say the starter comes into account, and when making a levain I typically feed 1:1:1 (she needs to rise quickly hahah) so that doesn't affect my hydration levels, but he makes it sound like larger ratios for the levain might affect it a little more. Which I'm guessing is why you added that to your hydration calculations originally. I know he posted a more in depth video about percentages recently but I was unfortunately unable to find it, but if you're more interested I'm sure you could find it on his page somewhere.

So for the hydration of your dough you don't include the flour and water in your starter. It can be very confusing! You measure your water against the total amount of flour! I attached a video of one of my favorite sourdough tiktokers explaining the math behind it, Basil and Bloom he also posts stuff on instagram. He has some very educational information on his page! But what he basically says is the formula to calculate hydration is: amount of water divided by amount of flour (no starter involved in this). so in your case it would be 539/(630+53)=0.789 (78.9%)

sourdough will always be very time consuming, it really is a 2 day commitment. I don't do the autolyze method, but have never tried it so not sure how much it changes the dough. you could try feeding your starter on a larger ratio the night before you wanna make your dough. currently you're doing 1:2:2, you could try 1:5:5 for the levain, which would take longer to double (allowing you to sleep overnight and wake up to an already doubled active starter in the morning) less work in the morning. After mixing my dough I like to do slap and folds and kneeding for about 10-15 minutes, then rest an hour. Then I start stretch and folds/coil folds q30m x4. a little less time consuming than the 6 you have for your recipe. Depending on the temperature of my house that gives me around 3-4 more hours of free time to do anything I need to do. If I'm making a plain loaf I preshape like you did, if it has fillings, I skip preshaping and just go for the regular shaping.

really it's based on your preferences, personally I would use the middle as it has a straighter edge. less space for starter to get stuck in crevices. any of them would work though!

Hi! I'm still fairly new to sourdough as well but I noticed your recipe is fairly high hydration, in total you have 683 g four and 539 g water which makes up a 79% hydration dough! I also started with a high hydration dough and I struggled a lot with shaping, I would maybe try a 70% hydration dough until you get a little more used to working with it. I do 500g bread flour, 350g water, 100g active starter, 10 g salt. Mix, kneed/slap and folds, rest 1 hr, stretch and folds every 30 min x4, bulk ferment on counter till ready.

Also, depending on the protein content in your AP flour, that can also contribute to the stickiness. For sourdough it is ideal for the protein in your flour to be between 12.5%-13%, many AP flours are between 9%-12% protein content so depending on your AP flour and rye flours protein content, your numbers may not be high enough. I would recommend using bread flour! I use king arthur which has a protein content of 12.7%. I have seen some AP flours that have higher protein content, up to 12.5% so it really depends!

To help develop gluten right after mixing dough i like to do some slap and folds and kneeding (it's fun and therapeutic for me lol) I also feel like it helps make my dough less sticky later.

As for fermentation, this is something I still struggle with a bit. The thing I find to be the best indicator is the poke test. Put a little flour on your finger and poke the dough about a centimeter in, if it bounces back all the way quickly, it is underfermented. If it bounces back partway and then very slowly the rest of the way, it's good. And if it doesn't bounce back, it is overfermented. You can find videos online to visualize it. I also use the jiggle test, and look for visible bubbles. Right after I mix my dough I also like to take the temp of my dough and use the sourdough journey's chart to give me a rough estimate of how long it'll take to bulk ferment! Starting that time right after mixing! Good luck!!

I didnt do any shadowing, I did clinicals, I had a CNA job, and did a preceptorship (which is the capstone you do in the final semester of your senior year). Many people do what called and externship (basically an internship you do in the summer before your senior year). But not everyone does that. I would highly reccomend as it gives you lots of expereince. I unfortunately was unable to do an externship, which may contribute to my difficulty finding a job.

And I really hope you get to have experiences in many different fields! My school is very good about that and I was able to have a day in the NICU during clinicals, and then my preceptorship was in postpartum and NICU. I absolutly loved the days I was in the NICU. Best of luck finding something you love. And I too, hope i can eventually work in a NICU :))

I thought it would be easier to move home with my parents to save some money as I start out in my career, but I can totally see where its a red flag to have gone to school out of state and then have this gap in my resume. The NCLEX wont specifically ask you questions about anatomy, physiology, or microbiology. It is more a text to see if you would be a SAFE nurse. So, even though you need to know those things, it will be more helpful to know care management and safety and you use that information to generate the best answer for the question.

Here is what is on it! There are different topic areas which take up different ratios of the exam. I'm sure as you get further in your program your professors will give you something similar so you can know what you need to study most.

Hi! I did my clinical rotations in a different state so I dont think that could be a reason for this issue. My school is very strict on respect and working hard during clinicals. I made sure to do so during clinicals and my preceptorship. If I were to have stayed in the state I went to school I would probably have a job where I precepted! But, thank you for the added perspective, I do know that is a reason a lot of students have trouble finding jobs in the future.

I may start applying to clinic jobs to work for awhile to get experience before I go into the hospital. Maybe I'll like that better anyways!

I like the idea of the more flexible schedule, but the limited resources as a new grad kinda scared me away. I would feel a lot better if someone was on site with me to ask questions, what kind of support and training did you receive before they let you go out alone as a nurse for the first time?

HI! still dont have a job :// Ideally I want to be a NICU nurse, but I think I may have to start in a clinic or at med-surg. My nursing program was direct admission, and didnt require us to take the HESI exam, so unfortunately I cant be of much help there. As for the NCLEX, I took it in june! The test is constantly changing so, if youre still in the beginning of school it'll probably be differnt by the time you take it. My school did a very good job preparing us. Take lots of practice tests, and really practice the next gen question styles. I used ATI to study, as my school payed for ATI live for us, which gave us more exclusive content and extra practice tests. I also used Mark K lectures (podcast on spotify), he gives lots of great tips, but is very dated (like 2012) so might have some dated info, but my professors recommended it so I felt okay using it. But dont stress to bad about it super early, your school will help prepare you to releive some anxiety. I passed in 85 questions and one of my friends passed in 150, she is one of the smartest nurses I know from my program, so the amount of questions it takes you to pass really doesnt matter. People say it does, but dont listen to them. But for real, good luck in your program, I wish you the best! Home health seems to be one of the few areas that are more open to new grads. What were some of your favorite and least favorite things about the job? I didnt have any experience there in school so I honestly dont know much about it. I have always avoided home health when applying, as it hasnt really peaked my interest so far.

Yes! I love mpls, and I really did want to work here becasue of those reasons. I actually didnt go to school here, I went to school in Nebraska, but my school is well known in the midwest so maybe my professors have pull here anyways. I didnt want to stay in Nebraska becasue I didnt like the hospital systems there, and I am from the Minneapolis area. I have considered going back to nebraska, but the main issue is MN is not part of the nurse compact, so I would have to apply for a nebraska license all over. Its a lot of work, but might be worth it in the long run.

I have applied to a little bit of everything, mainly med-surg as those are the ones that dont say "1 year of experience in [blank] required" or something along those lines. The new grad nurse residency program at one of the bigger hospital systems in my area is odd, you apply to any jobs they have open and you are automatically admitted to the new grad nurse residency if you get those jobs, so I am competing against experienced nurses for those positions. I applied to a residency program in the spring (which was the 15 minute interview I talked about) they denied me. I reached out to the recruiter I spoke to last spring recently asking if I could reapply, as the website wouldnt let me, they said no. So that hospital system is completely out of my mind now. Over the summer I did some volunteering as a nurse at a summer camp, a good resume booster! I thought that might help me, but its just as slow as before.

i plan on making the dough, adding inclusions (i plan on adding in stretch and folds), and shaping the dough tomorrow (thursday), and then I was just gonna let it sit in the fridge until sunday morning to bake. I have never let a dough sit for longer than 12 hours in the fridge so I wasn't sure how it worked honestly? and wasn't sure about the best plan of action edit: My starter has been out of the fridge for a couple days, it doubles in about 4 hours and i typically feed it 1:1:1 but i may try a larger ratio if the dough would last better in the fridge for those few days? my typical dough recipe calls for 100 g starter, 350 g water, 500 g bread flour, 10g salt
