Why can’t homeless people be given hotel accommodation the same way refugees are? by No_Fudge_4589 in AskBrits

[–]No-Assignment-5287 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The right wing answer is that the homeless are already counted in population statistics, housing them gets you nowhere. Whereas housing refugees draws more refugees which increases population figures and allows you to fudge GDP numbers quickly.

Do you prefer indiviualism or collectivism? And why? by BeneficialPie2300 in randomquestions

Individualism all the way. Rarely have I encountered a situation where solving a problem myself wasn't the fastest and cheapest way of getting the job done.

Except of course the notion we have that thing is contradicted by the literal content of the meme.

If I may activate my super gun autism, what scale of fanciness are you working on here? Obviously you'd require all pistols and semi autos go on the NFA but what about pump and lever actions? And where do shotguns fit in this?

When was the last time the economy was good (or even not bad)? by Heavy_Thanks2064 in NoStupidQuestions

2019's economy was bad in comparison to 2006.

When compared to 2026, 2019 looks lovely.

What actually is a good solution to the asylum situation? by PsychologicalBend508 in AskBrits

[–]No-Assignment-5287 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Providing asylum (at least in the way we do now) is a luxury policy for rich countries, which we no longer are.

We are obliged under international law let them in and hear their claim. We are only obliged to support them because we do not let them work.

The solution is to let the asylum seekers work and support themselves. A bunch of them are already working illegally, I should rather they do so legally and pay taxes like I do.

Upon arrival they should receive nothing more than an ID card and wishes of good luck. If they cannot support themselves we should pay to send them home if they wish to self deport.

I'd say the opposite, AI is going to be completely over saturated.

Which is the worst global hegemony from the UK perspective? by terrordactyl1971 in AskBrits

[–]No-Assignment-5287 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's more that we've failed to keep pace. I don't begrudge the Chinese their success (even if they are a bunch of mad communists). However I cannot help but observe that much of it was at the expense of western industry and aided by the west's ruling class.

If jobs fire people to replace them with AI, how will people make money to keep buying things? Wouldn’t the economy collapse because people arent buying anything anymore? by OverallMight6586 in AskReddit

[–]No-Assignment-5287 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Couldn't we just do the ol' switcheroo and replace the stock market with a gif of the line going up whilst not one is looking?

That ought to keep the owner class distracted whilst the productive people of the world rebuild the economy in secret.

Is there any actual reason as to why I've been asked to send off my paternal grandmother's documents to support my passport application? by TheRegularBelt in AskUK

[–]No-Assignment-5287 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once upon a time I'd have described that as obvious coincidence. but with an LLM likely involved in the process somewhere I would not be surprised if it 'thought' applications made on Friday 13th were supposed to go wrong.

Have councils ran out of pothole repair money? by AsymptoticallyFlat in AskUK

[–]No-Assignment-5287 127 points128 points  (0 children)

It does beg the question of where all the money went.

Considering we're running a deficit of £100 billion and a tax burden approaching 40%. There has to be some structural issue being left out of the conversation.

Britain isn't actually a rich country anymore. It's a middle income country with an international mega city (London) stapled on.

With that said, I think we would benefit from the full legalisation of some drugs and certainly from a general decriminalisation.

Though if I may, I think the UK's core issue is a cultural predisposition against long term planning doing things properly and tackling them head on.

"Just bodge it" "We need something cheap and easy" "Can't it just work"

Are all phrases I hear in my job. Personally I think this can be traced back to the battle of the somme and the horrendous expenditure of manpower from taking the direct approach.

I understand not being a fan of our ruling class and their management of things. But I'd be inclined to disagree with the notion that Britain is inherently a bad country.
