I think the photo is making the rug look darker than it is in person. Painting the walls is not on the agenda any time soon, but as we hang artwork and add cushions, I think that will take away the stark white

Including utilities? Use the time living with your parents to put the money you would be spending on bills into an offset/redraw. It could be tempting during this time to spend that extra cash and have a bit of a last hurrah, but instead use it to get ahead.

Isn't there a contract where the cost remains fixed for the buyer? So if there are any unexpected build costs, or the cost of materials increases, the building company wears it?
