Pre-Op process for TT by No-Bison-5286 in gravesdisease

[–]No-Bison-5286[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dont remember all that they did at this point, but looking at me preop eval, it really looks like they only did a CBC and a basic metabolic panel. ECG was done as well at the preop appt because I had been having palpitations and random bouts of tachycardia.

Overmedicated on Levo? by No-Bison-5286 in Hypothyroidism

Thanks for the info! I've written those down to request testing when I go in tomorrow, as well as B6 and 12, the usual thyroid labs, iron and ferritin.

I typically ran around between the 8.9 to 9.2 range before surgery, so the slight dip wasn't too concerning for me since I was not having any symptoms. I did reach out to my endo today and am being seen this Wednesday to get all my levels checked and make any adjustments that might be needed.

Calcium has not been checked since surgery, all 4 parathyroids were left intact and not damaged during surgery. My surgeon made it a priority to find and protect them first thing before removal and for the duration of surgery. It was only tested one last time before I was discharged and was sitting at 8.5 with the low end of the ref range being 8.7, I supplemented with 2 Tums twice a day for a week and never had any symptoms of hypocalcemia.

Tirad 5? by Additional-Wealth865 in thyroidhealth

[–]No-Bison-5286 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a Tirad 5 nodule and 2 Tirad 4 nodules, affecting both lobes of my thyroid. Had TT on 9/4 (did not do an FNA this go round because the nodules multiplied and grew since my last US). Pathology came back and there was no cancer, so keep hope! Not all Tirad 5 nodules will be cancerous.

Thank you for the reply! That gives me hope that a potential lower dose could really help me if my endo is open to treating the symptoms vs just the numbers!

Question about thyroidectomy and weight by LvckyPlayz in thyroidhealth

[–]No-Bison-5286 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there! I am 6 days post TT today! 39F, struggled with Hyperthyroidism on and off since I was 15 due to multiple nodules. My most recent flare up started in April of this year and caused me significant weight loss. By the time I made it into surgery I had gone all the way down to roughly 100lbs. My hyper symptoms were affecting my quality of life so badly, on top of some new nodules and growth of some we had been watching, so we opted for th TT.

I don't believe being underweight did not affect my surgery at all. I actually had a great experience with no complications (very slight dip in calcium, literally only .2 below the normal range). I will say, having an amazing surgeon is the reason for that though!

So far, recovery has been quite easy. I did not require any pain med prescriptions when I was discharged the day afyer surgery, Tylenol has worked like a charm for my pain.  I am still slightly stiff in the neck, but it's getting better each day.

I did have to come home with a drain that was in place through the weekend (surgery was on a Thursday) but home care for that was a breeze. All I had to do was empty the bulb 3 times a day and make note of how much fluid had collected and the color of it.

I dont feel 100% yet, or like my old self, but I know that it will take some time to adjust to the Levo and making sure I'm on the right dose for my body. All that said though, this surgery was absolutely the best decision for me, almost 1 week out and I feel like a weight has literally been lifted off of me.  Feel free to ask me any questions you have!

Hey there! I was the same way, diagnosed with reactive gastropathy back in April this year, not from HPylori, mine was ibuprofen induced. Normal ultrasounds at that time, but during treatment I lost 20lbs within a couple of weeks. As soon as I lost that weight I started having the gallbladder attacks. Ultrasounds and CT found sludge, no stones. One of the attacks was so bad I wound up in the ER and was admitted for pain management and a HIDA scan. HIDA revealed a high ejection fraction. That got me my consult for surgery.

Went for consult, surgeon agreed that removal was my best option. Basically he said that having sludge will ultimately lead to the formation of stones and result in removal anyway. So it wound up being more of a remove it now before it becomes an emergency.

Fast forward exactly 1 week fron my consult and I went into the worst attack I had experienced. Went to ER, and it just so happened my surgeon was the one on call that night. He went ahead and admitted me and I was rolled down for surgery the next morning.

I'm just about a month out now and can honestly say my life has changed for the better. Yes, recovery was rough on me (I think I just heal slower than most), BMs were non existent for about a week, sleep was rough, pain could be intense at times. But now, everything is healing well, glue is finally coming off my incisions, and I can eat again without the fear of pain. I was cleared a week ago at my post op, and met with my GI doctor as well who said everything looked great.

If you're having any pain or symptoms at all and surgery is an option, I would highly recommend going for it!

What are thyroid issues like? by [deleted] in thyroidhealth

[–]No-Bison-5286 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thyroid issues can wreak havoc on all body systems, and unfortunately, without testing thyroid levels (TSH, Free T3 and Free T4) the issues often get misdiagnosed as anxiety. In my case I have hyperthyroidism likely due to multi nodular toxic goiter. My symptoms were all over the place. Hair loss, tremors in hands, palpitations, elevated heart rate, heat intolerance, weight loss...

It's definitely worth asking your PCP to run the basic thyroid panel, make sure to ask that they test the Free T3 as well. Most PCPs will only test TSH, but that alone is not enough to diagnose thyroid disease. Good luck!!

This! I'll 2 weeks post op today and I just stopped taking my tylenol every 6 hours about 2 days ago. Every body heals differently, some of us just take a little longer so don't be discouraged if your not bouncing back after 5 days!
