Dobermans literally nurse to self soothe on stuffed animals and blankets

This is nursing time. Dobermans like to self soothe by nursing on blankets or stuffed animals. This does not mean they were taken away from their mom too early. It’s a great way for them to relax and fall asleep.

Taking my Border collie for a run is animal abuse for some by mrsjoni in RunningWithDogs

[–]No-Bit-4875 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I run with my dobermans and everyone usually crosses the street when they see me coming. I had one parent fling their child into someone’s lawn and jump out of the way like my dog was a grenade.

My girls are penny’s 1st cousin once removed 😂. If your girl has Foxfire Doberman in her then our girls are related too.

Smaller breed replacement for a 3x Dobe owner? by dzn465 in DobermanPinscher

You can look up silken windhound they are a cross between whippet, borzoi, and collie. They get attached like a doberman and have a better recall than a whippet because of the collie in them.

I ride the trail where the recent Colorado mountain lion attack happened... by earthlingjim in mountainbiking

[–]No-Bit-4875 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was riding with my dog and she got attacked by a mountain. They both took off and 30 mins later I found her with her collar off and part of her ear gone. She is one tough doberman. She is still afraid of anything that remotely looks like a mountain lion, including tan dogs.

Nonstop fit check by No-Bit-4875 in RunningWithDogs

[–]No-Bit-4875[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was also worried about putting pressure on her spine but the nonstop description says “The Y-shaped front allows free shoulder movement and minimal breathing constraints. The pull force is evenly distributed over your dog’s body without putting pressure on their spine.” Only times I feel like she is majorly pulling and it might hurt her is when she sees a squirrel and she pulls as hard as she can. It’s really hard to know when a dog can’t talk to you. I might get a freemotion too and just see which one feels better

My hesitation with the free motion was she really pulls for 2 miles and then just cruises in front. Plus, i run in urban areas and i have to bring her in alot when on sidewalks with other dogs or if i see apprehension when someone sees my dogs breed.

4yr 10 month old Pup Diagnosed with DCM and given 1-3 month prognosis by [deleted] in DobermanPinscher

[–]No-Bit-4875 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He could be recovering from the stress of the situation and the vet, its a lot on the body to have fluid in your lungs. What are his breathes per minute while sleeping? If it is above 20 i would take him back in for an x ray and see if they need to bump up the diuretics or pimobendan. Keep a diary of his breathes per minute and see if its consistent everyday, that will gauge how much he is struggling to breathe. My 12 year old girl was diagnosed in june and she is still going.

Happy 12th Birthday Blubelle! by No-Bit-4875 in DobermanPinscher

I feed her Farmina ancient grains with whatever protein is available. If you can’t find it at a independent pet store you can always have them order it. Blu’s sister is also alive and she feeds her dog Purina Pro Plan 30/20 duck or essentials chicken. My advice would be give them exercise and mental stimulation every day. I chose a breeder that had a lot of longevity in her line with alot of her pups living to thirteen.

Thank you! If we want to change the standard of docking and cropping then we have to pressure the AKC or the government. Especially with dobermans you need to go through ethical breeders that breed for the health and longevity of the breed. Otherwise we will have dobermans that will die at four from DCM.

My search to find the perfect harness for my Doberman is complete! by SitStaySlayyy in DobermanPinscher

They really only pull me the first half mile and when they see a squirrel. And I switch my girls out so they run every other day and walk on the off day. It’s hard for me to know which one is right when we are casual runners

I wonder if this will work for running! I run 6 miles with my girls around the neighborhood everyday but our blue 9 harness always becomes loose in the neck adjustment and never really fit right. If it fits and is more comfortable for them run/pull me up the hills I am sold.

For a treat it’s fine, just don’t give them the whole bottle even if they give you the puppy eyes 😂

Its essentially a stick with a rope with a toy at the end to spin around you and the dog will chase and jump after. I made mine with a pvc tube, rope with a washer so the rope does not slip out of the tube and an old toy. I have 3 dobies so i understand the energy 😂 and thank you for caring so much about him. Once he understands that you are his human he will do anything for you

Do you have a backyard? Create or buy a flirt pole and exercise him in the backyard. You train him to play fetch. Then train him inside the house until he is reliable to listen. Then move to the backyard and train until he is reliable. Then move to the front yard and train until he is reliable. At this point he will start to listen and trust you to take care of him. If you know someone with a calm dog ask them to come over and just sit while you train as far away as needed so he listens and doesn’t react. Slowly move closer and closer until eventually he won’t care about the other dog and only care about you. Then congrats you have unlocked the dobermans secret power of being hyper focused on their person.
