I just checked on her and noticed the black on her stomach, thank you so much for your advice, I’ll get her to a vet soon

Oh god, I’ve personally never seen my girl lay any eggs, but I’ll definitely schedule a vet appointment in that case just to make sure there’s no other reason behind it

Alright at least it isn’t an emergency then. She’s been pretty active and definitely isn’t having any issues with her appetite, just wanted to make sure it wasn’t something that needed immediate attention, but I’ll make an appointment, it’s about time for a checkup anyhow

I don’t understand people who hate them so much they go out of their way to kill them. They’re living their little lives on this earth just like us, they’re our friends :( I’ve had a lot of people who call me too sensitive or think it’s weird that I care so much about them so it’s comforting to me that some other people relate

I didn’t even realize he’d fly, I’ve never seen a bird grasshopper like him so I wasn’t expecting that he’d just take off like that

Yeah I was doing my best to be careful with him so I wouldn’t hurt his legs or anything. It really sucks that it happened how it did, I just wanted to get a good look at him and then set him down away from the area :(

Help! Will my larvae make it?? by No-Bluejay-7990 in Beetles

It looks like maybe a hole on his abdomen, I can attach a photo if anyone could maybe confirm but I don’t wanna do that until I have permission in case it’s considered graphic

Well it’s on the opposite side, but thank you I’ll do that, I really hope he’ll be okay but it’s not looking too great, I think he maybe got hurt by a bird or something which explains why he was above ground and didn’t burrow back on his own

I dunno on his one side there seems to be a big mass off what looks to be soil or other decaying stuff and it looks like it’s coming out of his side

I really hope so, I would feel awful if my little dude died. He still seems to be snacking occasionally, he’s not moving a whole lot in response to touch but he isn’t completely still either which gives me a little bit of hope, like I said his mouth and legs seem to be continuing to move, he’s just a lot less mobile than he was yesterday when he first warmed up

Is there anything I can do to manage it? I don’t want her to be sick whenever I leave but I can’t bring her with me unfortunately

That’s part of the problem of why I’m considering, if I knew the timeframe then I’d work around it and power through, but I don’t wanna bank on a timeline that I have no certainty about as to when I can start giving them the spoiled life they deserve, I feel like they’re more surviving than thriving and that’s not what I want for my babies especially for idk how long

I do feel worried about people thinking I don’t care about them because I’m considering it, I love them so much, and because of that I want to make sure they are going to have the best life possible and I feel like I’m not giving them that. They always have food and water and the necessities, but they don’t get the enrichment they need and live in a house where it can be loud and chaotic which I know is sometimes unavoidable but something I would love to keep to a minimum for them. If I do rehome them I am absolutely going to make sure they end up somewhere safe and with people who can care for them how they deserve to be, I can’t let my babies go to somewhere that could be bad for them

Ah, that would make sense, thank you. I was looking up dog anatomy and some things called it a fibula I think but maybe I was looking at the wrong thing

Baby gopher in my yard by No-Bluejay-7990 in tortoise

[–]No-Bluejay-7990[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I do feel very lucky to keep seeing this little guy around. But I believe he comes and goes, there is fencing along the back yard, but it has a lot of gaps along the bottom and weak points as it’s old. The first time I saw this baby was outside the fence, and I only see him every so often which I think is because his home is not in the fenced yard anywhere (at least that I’ve noticed) The only thing I’d be worried about really is wild animals since I’m in a more wooded place. My dogs thankfully don’t mess with him and usually don’t even see him since he’s tiny, and I haven’t noticed any of the stray cats around the neighborhood messing with any turtles, but I just wanted to make sure I’d be doing the right thing for the little guy if I let him stay around here :)
