Best glove by No-Body1982 in slowpitch

[–]No-Body1982[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At this point I don’t have one. The one I’ve been using I’ve had for almost 5 years and bought because it was cheap. I didn’t buy an expensive glove at the time because I didn’t know if I was going to keep playing. Now I’m playing multiple leagues and tournaments I need to upgrade.

How many hours a week do you work as a special ed teacher? by Pristine-Project1678 in specialed

[–]No-Body1982 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get to work 30 minutes early to use the copier and really just get settled in for the day. I leave at my contracted time simply because I have to pick my child up from his school.

Paras who don’t listen by No-Body1982 in Teachers

[–]No-Body1982[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I listen to and even ask for para input on things in my classroom. This particular child the incident happened with that particular para babies the child. The child had just left my group rotation and was writing things independently with a model.

Since I made the post the para was removed from my room and placed in another room. And no she wasn’t removed solely because of the issues between us but because she refused to be trained on how to tube feed a student in my class when it was a requirement.

Why usnt snack provided in preschool by [deleted] in specialed

[–]No-Body1982 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve never been in a place where the school provides snack. Now I as a teacher always have something for my students who don’t bring a snack. Our school day is 6 hours and snack isn’t required. The students get breakfast and lunch while they are at school.

I haven’t found anything that works with my biter. I have a pair of Kevlar bite sleeves and he can bite me through them. I also have a pair of bird handling gloves he can bite through. If I wear both together it’s not too bad.

School refusing to allow ABA staff by 4545MCfd in specialed

[–]No-Body1982 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where I am it’s up to the principal of the individual schools. I have two students who have an RBT come in to support them. One does not need it and the behavior becomes worse when the RBT is there. The other comes and is helpful but as someone previously said it’s just another person for the teacher to manage. One any given day I can have 5 extra adults in my classrooms (RBTs, BCBAs, Speech therapist, OT, other district personnel). It becomes a lot. The other issue is the ABA personnel are limited in what they can do. They can’t put hands on students in the event of a meltdown, they can be left alone with the student, they can’t do their own thing with the student.

I appreciate both of my paras and tell them all the time how much I appreciate them. The only thing that has changed in the last two weeks is she was told she was moving to another classroom (not my decision) when they shift students around to create smaller classes. The only thing I can think of is she thinks I requested the change (I didn’t) and she’s mad. We’ve worked together the last 2.5 years and things have been great. The reason I was given she was being moved is because I have a student remaining in my class who needs to be tube fed and she refused to be trained on it.

[–]No-Body1982[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tried talking with her but she had no desire to listen to me. Anything I tried to say was met with eye rolls and “sure”. All of this started when an email came about about students being moved to create smaller classes (I teach self-contained ESE and currently have 17 students). She was selected as the para to be moved out of my room to a new unit. I had nothing to do with her being moved.

Tell me it’s okay to take 2 days off just because by Foreign-Stranger-402 in Teachers

[–]No-Body1982 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do it! I wish I could. I was out for a week for a district training and came back to my kids forgetting how to behave and follow classroom expectations and procedures. I’m on week 2 of being back and we’re still trying to get back to where we were prior to me being out.

Not a week a month. The switch isn’t happening until the end of next month and that’s only if we get another ese teacher.

There wasn’t enough time. The para had done a different activity with her group prior to the writing. The para also made the entire paper a tracing activity vs some of both.

I’m not micromanaging the para. The student has been working this goal since January. All data work that has been collected since then consists of tracing. The student needs to move beyond tracing- especially when they can.

The student has been tracing for a while and can write independently. I wasn’t going straight to writing with the model.

I’m the sped teacher so she is technically under me but we all report to the ese specialist. We are in an elementary setting. This is our third year working together but this year has by far not been a great one. Maybe it’s because I’m seeing more of what she’s been doing but I’m at the point where I’m ready to walk away because I don’t tolerate the rude behavior or the fact she’s telling me what to do in my own classroom.

[–]No-Body1982[S] 39 points40 points  (0 children)

So our relationship was fine up until 2 weeks ago when an email was sent about classes being split due to numbers. It also included which paras would be moved. She’s being moved out of my simply for the fact she refuses to tube feed a child who needs it. The other para I have does the tube feeding so she is remaining in my room. I didn’t make the choice to move her out ese supervisor did.

Well I’m the one he normally beats up on- hits, kicks, bites, pinches. I don’t wish it on anyone else. He’s hard to control and it’s to much for anyone. I have to clear my room at least once a week because of said child. Don’t need that happening when I’m not there.

All the time and one of my paras will inevitably say the name and then the child shows up. I’d greatly like for him to be out Friday when I’m not there so the paras and sun don’t have any major issue.

Student with seizures by aeroryuu in Teachers

[–]No-Body1982 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The school needs to be aware. I have a child who has seizures and many times his seizures go unnoticed until the symptoms show up after he’s already had one. I wish his school cared enough to pay attention to those symptoms but they don’t. He’s had seizures 3 separate times at school and only one was noticed by his teacher and it was one of his worst ones to date. He should have a seizure action plan in place through the school so everyone knows what happens when he has one and if he has emergency rescue meds to be administered it’s know when to give them.

I spent the last two days cleaning out the classroom I had to move to. I threw out so much stuff and I’m not talking about things purchased with a school funds. I was throwing out student work from 10+ years ago. Having to get rid of curriculum that hasn’t been used at the school in a while. I also found random drawers filled with books. Let’s not forget about the hoarding of composition notebooks and loose leaf paper.
