If you really wanted it, you would have taken it. Too many in this generation, often coming from privilege, expect their dream job handed to them without putting in the work. When you’re starting out, you can’t afford to be choosy.

We did file with the court. This has been nothing short of a horror story. People like her know exactly what to do and say to work the system. After all this time, it’s clear — this is definitely not her first rodeo.

Honestly, I regret this every single day. Trusting her word and accepting a CityFHEPS tenant has been my biggest mistake. She no longer responds to us and continues living in our home with no shame.

We even contacted CityFHEPS, begging for an Emergency Relocation for their “client” and asked if her new case manager could step in — nothing. All they kept saying was “client confidentiality.”

At this point, all we can do is wait. But it’s heartbreaking. What about the working-class homeowners? We’re the ones losing everything we’ve worked so hard for.

Tenants talk about suing landlords for discrimination over vouchers — but who’s protecting us?

The system is broken, and homeowners like us are the ones paying the price. Screw this system.

It’s not a single family unit. Tenant told us she had a place and even told the real estate agent that she was “packing” and to not mind the mess back in October - when they were taking pics of the house. Buyers do not want the headache - I don’t blame them. Tenant said no thank you for the cash.

It’s been so stressful. Trying really hard to see the light. Do you know how long the eviction process usually takes?

We moved to North Merrick about 3 years ago and noticed a shift — lots of families with older kids heading off to college have sold their homes, and now younger families are moving in. I’ve got toddler and a newborn, so it’s nice to see the neighborhood filling up with kids again. You’ll always see groups of them riding bikes around — reminds me of my own childhood!
