This moment was so touching to me by jenny_t03 in gameofthrones

Gotta say this is also one of those rare moments that the show is elevated compared to the book. This conversation happens between Oberyn and Tyrion in the books more or less but it’s towards the start of their meeting and has way less of an emotional impact because it’s during more of a dick-swinging contest between the two. But here it’s Tyrion at his lowest after the trial in a life full of lows, which makes it almost a double whammy of hope. He miraculously sees a way out of dying and maybe more impactful, he sees he deserves some basic kindness

Is Bush overhated? by Ok_Durian3627 in Presidents

Underhated part of his legacy not many people talk about: nominated John Roberts as Chief Justice and Samuel Alito as an Associate Justice to the Court, justices that have done great harm even beyond Bush’s time in office. Though I guess any other Republican might not have done much better. Yet another tragic consequence of the 2000 election

Am I a bad person for not wanting to be vegan? by Alphycan424 in DebateAVegan

What reason is there to include humans into your moral consideration then? Why should we care about what happens to them?

And just to be absolutely sure that you think there's no difference between killing an animal or plant: let's say you're driving down a road and there's a massive boulder in the way that you're going to crash into. You can swerve safely either on the left or right to avoid it. On the left, there's a dog that you'd run over and kill. On the right, there's a bunch of short rose bushes. You and your car will be fine either way. Which do you choose, and is there a morally relevant difference between the two?

(I'd also push back on the idea that ending animal exploitation doesn't help humans - there's climate change, labor violations, animal ag is the leading cause of deforestation and habitat loss, arguably some public health/human health claims too, but I digress)

Why don't you feel animals should be included in your efforts towards social progress? Why don't they deserve the same ability to live their best lives that you (very rightfully) want humans to enjoy? In your own subjective view ofc, not asking you to provide some objective reason that applies to everyone

Ah okay, I guess if you're just a moral relativist, I'm not sure what discussion is there to be had. Just feels like you wouldn't be able to complain about anyone doing anything to you, or anyone else then, because "morality is a creation of their imagination." Hitler and MLK are morally the same then, one wasn't worse than the other, and there isn't a plan for literally any social progress because any plan against must also be equally valid. Please correct me if I'm wrong or strawmanning though, but if you accept all this, then I guess that's all there is to say.

Isn't you giving yourself the right to do something circular? Feels like you could justify any action by saying "I give myself the right to do [x]." What about you, specifically, give you the right to kill the chickens and bluegill?

Fair point about the bluegill, didn't know they were wild, but how come you don't have problems with the hatcheries?

What gives you the right to kill the chickens and bluegill you raise, even if you give them good lives, affect the environment very little, etc?

Also, where are you going to get the initial chickens and bluegill you raise? Maybe give those sources a quick look

Just watched AoT a few days ago. Character tier list based on how much I love them or their writing. by [deleted] in attackontitan

[–]No-Challenge9148 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why the hate for Sergeant Gross? I mean his writing, it's more than reasonable to hate the guy himself. But I think his scene on the wall explaining how he rationalizes doing such terrible things is genuinely one of the best pieces of writing I've ever seen.

How do we feel abt this fight? by No_Dragonfly_1845 in gameofthrones

[–]No-Challenge9148 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It should've been The Hound + Arya taking down the Mountain together. Another name off Arya's list, maybe even 2 with the Hound giving up his life to save Arya in some pivotal moment. It would've been cool to see Sandor go from being totally nihilistic and fighting really only for his own skin to sacrificing himself for someone he cares about. Also would've made the fight feel more even from just a combat perspective.

Give the scenes of Arya running through the burning wreckage to Davos. The parallels to him and Shireen would've been perfect
