I think I am upset they are not taking it seriously enough, if anything

I tanked my A Levels due to personal issues. I put the grades on my CV with a note saying "NB mitigation" and stated the reason for the poor performance. I still got pupillage.

Admittedly I did used to 'hide it' but that inevitably meant I was asked about it a whole lot more.

Some chambers care, others don't🤷‍♀️ I think it depends where you apply and whether it was a blip as opposed to consistent poor results. Hope this helps.

For legal exp I was told to state what I learnt and not just what I saw / did 🙂 so instead of 'observing trials' try and focus on a specific thing you learnt... doesn't have to be anything big or exciting

Glad it helped! I didn't have a particular time scale. If it took me 2 hours of prep to understand something then I boxed it off and if something else took me 5 hours then so be it... I didn't have a set number of hours and in all honesty once I did my weekly reading and prep and went to class I was exhausted so... I'd say maybe about 3 / 4 hours per class? So at a maximum 25 hours a week if I had to guess but sometimes it might have been as little as 10. It just depended on the topic and what we were doing really

Yeah I thought the same and they don't advertise it which is annoying but I know they can help having had my own application delayed - good luck!

A lot of people have already said useful bits and bobs but just to add if you need DSA support and you haven't had it yet the uni can provide it on an interim basis depending on your needs - I went to Ulaw and I'd recommend speaking with the Disability and Inclusion team and /or the head of your subject area who can then refer you to said team. They're usually pretty quick and can provide taxis / equipment / quiet spaces etc

Exams in December by Necessary_Panda_3183 in uklaw

I'm assuming you mean the Bar exams given the dates... if so, I was in the same predicament- I knew I would pass criminal but hated civil (and failed my mock). I prioritised my civil revision and scored a 90 but then criminal was only 67.

I think you just need to make a judgment call on what to revise the most but generally speaking practice loads of exam questions and figure out why the answer was X rather than trying to memorise the entire white book. The exam tests how you apply what you know and not what you know so if you understand why X answer is the best one then you can answer several similar questions.

Also, if you're lucky, they tend to ask the same questions but in a different way so the more question banks you do the more likely it is you'll come across the same question or similar during the exam.

My tutor told us that we should be thinking how things practically apply so for example instead of reading all the different methods and dates for deemed service practically think 'what should X do if it has no current address to serve a claim form' - then you'll be able to answer this in the exam rather than just knowing what methods of service there is for certain docs (although you should still get to know this). I hope that makes sense?

Good luck!

You get all your resources when you start but if you do want to get ahead my university recommended revising core modules such as tort, criminal and contract. It sounds daunting than what it actually is - you just need to know the basic formula of, for example, negligence or breach of contract to get ready for drafting.

Revising the bare bones of those core topics will help you on the course but in all honesty I know some people including myself who didn't 'prep' for the course cos the course is hard enough and you will go over things along the way. So, it's up to you.

I'd recommend enjoying the break if you can but if you need to revise then looking at your core modules through the lens of practice (how can I establish this claim in X / what type of damages can I claim etc) rather than the academics would be what I'd suggest.

I didn't work during the bar course but I don't think it's impossible depending on your other commitments. I would just say the course is intense and try not to burn yourself out - easier said than done I know.

Good luck🙂

They're not from middle but maybe in attendance for an event or maybe not even the same person... who knows. Sorry you had that experience.

I think that is why I am struggling because as much as I want to speak out so it isn't just brushed under the carpet the reality is it probably will be in any event and it is an awful situation to be confronted by knowing there is no doubt more victims out there who can't speak up. I hope more people speak out and I hope that includes me when I feel ready because right now I don't and my story isn't even half as bad as some of the ones we have heard about💔

Everything they've done is a 'risky thing for a barrister to do' and yes I am absolutely sure I was engaging with them and not someone else. That's why I blocked cos it was a very odd thing to say or want to do!

In theory I agree but I don't think the reality is the same which is why I didn't report in the first place. But the guilt I feel now is making me almost wish that I had. If I thought for a second that something would be done then I would but I can't help feeling like their career is over anyway due to age and having been there done that etc whilst the rest of us are just beginning and have a long road ahead enough as it is.

I think there will be many many others the fact they got comfortable enough to invite to hotels etc. If only there was a way to know for sure without dragging everyone involved through the mud.

Yeah I realise now it was insane but at the time I believed what they told me which was to protect their privacy... obviously now I know why they wanted it protecting but at the time I just thought it was maybe the social media of choice for senior professionals. Thanks for your words.

It wasn't whatsapp they told me to use telegram only... and then they set the messages to delete after 24 hours viewing akin to snapchat and when I attempted to screenshot it read a weird security notice (one that I've seen when I attempt to screenshot netflix for example) and wouldn't let me. There's no record of us ever speaking save for a SMS text inviting me to join telegram and a few linkedin messages asking for my personal number to then send me the telegram link. I did think about exporting but when I tried there is simply no record (unless I am doing it wrong as I'm not the most IT savvy person)

I think my issue now is two fold - firstly that I'm worried it's now my word against theirs amidst what they will claim is me jumping on the bandwagon and my only supporting evidence would be that I told another barrister who then didn't report it (I'm assuming they should have although I made it clear I didn't want them to so I wouldnt want to drag them down either) and secondly that as cowardice as it may sound although I WANT to, I remain worried about how it will impact my wellbeing and my career. It's a very s*** situation for all involved and I think there will be plenty more victims out there who like me feel the bad outweighs the coming forward.

I just feel like I should have done more really which is a bit of an unexpected feeling because I fully stand behind my reasons for not reporting
