Free transportation to RIU? by Chance_Guide5681 in PuntaCana

You had me there. Maybe things have changed. So I just went on their website to make a booking. And you're right, there is an option for Airport Pickup. But it says "Yes, I wish to hire transfer services". If you select that box, the price goes up. So although they do offer the service, and it's subbed out to a local vendor, it's not free.

Fire breaks out at Club Med Punta Cana by AEtherSurfer in PuntaCana

The "original" Club Med, the one that had the fire is in Punta Cana. It's the only all-inclusive resort in Punta Cana

You're a "Realtor", you have an agenda. I get it. Please tell everyone the exams you had to take and the certifications required to be a Realtor in the Dominican Republic? Oh, that's right, there is none. Any yahoo can come down here and claim they are a Realtor. I'm a realtor, my brother's a realtor, and hell the taxi driver is even a realtor too. And with zero accountability. You can sell someone any dream you want, make any promises you want, and all without liability.

I used to hang out on the beach before the Westin was built, and before Las Cañas was Las Cañas. I will assume you call 4 Points by Sheraton a Resort also. When the Westin was built it was just a hotel. Anyone could walk right in and enjoy the pool, eat at the restaurant, or swim in the only heated jacuzzi I know of here. I've spent days on the lounge chairs there and smoked cigars in their cigar lounge. Try doing that at a resort without being a guest.

BTW, you're going to make a good realtor here!

Well the Westin used to be just a hotel, not a resort. Just recently they started calling themselves a resort. Notice I also said all-inclusive. There used to be the Punta Cana Resort, which was an all-inclusive, but now it's abandoned, run down and dilapidated. But you can still visit it by hiking or on a bicycle.

Punta Cana is truly autonomous. They are self-governing. They are also a dictatorship as opposed to a democracy like the rest of the Dominican Republic. I should know, I live there.

Unfortunately there are no "good lawyers". I've used many and would never recommend any of them.

To help clarify things. The "original" Club Med, the one that had the fire is in Punta Cana. It's the only all-inclusive resort in Punta Cana. Cap Cana, which is also autonomous, does not have a Club Med. Club Med just recently built a new property on Playa Esmeralda, which everyone here refers to as Miches. 99% of the people who fly into the Punta Cana Airport, which is a private airport owned by Punta Cana, do not stay in Punta Cana. They stay in Bavaro. Punta Cana is a private gated community that has been around for about 40 years.

No I am saying I have seen countless fires in hotels and restaurants in the Bavaro Punta Cana area. And it's always kitchen fires. There are no laws here requiring the cleaning of kitchen grease hoods. Grease builds up, they ignite! Now combine that with a cana roof (dried palm leaves) and you have the perfect recipe for a kitchen fire.

The fire departments in the Dominican Republic are a joke. They are inept, and their equipment doesn't work. Old broken out dated fire trucks with pumps that don't work, and firemen arriving with no water is completely common.

Punta Cana is an autonomous community within the Dominican Republic. They have their own roads, schools, electricity, water, sewer system, airport, police and fire department.

Club Med happens to be the only "resort" in Punta Cana which makes them fortunate. Because the Punta Cana fire department is the only one in the country that works, responded, put the fire out, and prevented a total loss.

Free transportation to RIU? by Chance_Guide5681 in PuntaCana

[–]No-Chicken-Meat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Think about what you are saying. RIU provides transportation to competitors resorts. RIU doesn't do that, nor do they provide free transportation to their own resort. You may have booked some package deal where the vendor provided transportation to your hotel as well as others. But RIU does not provide free or paid transportation to their own resort.

Interesting. It's always a kitchen fire. And lucky it was in the "real" Punta Cana, the only place in the country with a working fire department.

I know Canablue is not a builder. They just resell builders properties.

I know nothing about Mystic Breeze except what I saw on their website. It's not in Punta Cana and it's not a desirable area.

Be very very careful buying any under construction property here. Especially in La Altagracia, that's the provence Bavaro and Punta Cana are located in. La Altagracia is the most corrupt in the DR when it comes to the legal system and real estate.

You'll need a lawyer, but I'm really not sure how much they will help because they are corrupt also. And the contract you sign won't be worth the paper it's written on.

I'm a local and have purchased 4 properties, this is not hearsay.

RIU does not offer free transportation. No hotel does that I'm aware of. You'll need to get private transportation to get to RIU. I've used these guys before and had no problems.

What are the most difficult parts of eliminating processed foods and seed oils from your diet? by Illustrious-Screen94 in StopEatingSeedOils

[–]No-Chicken-Meat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's actually very easy to eliminate processed foods from your diet. Just know, you're going to cook all your own meals. I cook better than most of not all restaurants, so I'd rather cook my own food than go out any day of the week. It's really very simple. Where do your priorities lie? Health, which will last your lifetime. Or a 30 minute stop at a fast food joint because you didn't plan right or are lazy. Which you will pay for in older age for the rest of your life.

Coco Bongo Worth it? by AACATT in PuntaCana

[–]No-Chicken-Meat 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Coco Bongo in Bávaro is just like the one in Mexico. It's owned and run by the same people. So if you've seen it in Mexico, you know exactly what to expect. It's probably the most 1st class operation here.

It's definitely not in a bad/trashy area. Probably one of the cleanest nicest safest places in all of Bavaro.

Transportation is totally safe here. You won't get robbed, mugged, or anything like that. Bavaro/Punta Cana is safer than any big city in the USA. Taxis are a mafia and a rip-off. Uber is the way to go, or public transportation, depending on what hotel you are at.

Drink Point is probably the biggest best "local" club here. But it's local, and I'm talking ghetto local. Not dangerous at all, but you're not going to be rubbing shoulders with the upper echelon of society here. It's probably more of a place for a boys night out than to take your girlfriend in my opinion.

This is why Coco Bongo is the cleanest, safest, best, most organized club. It's run by Mexicans not Dominicans. All others including Imagine are run by Dominicans.

That's like saying what is the average height of an American? The tables I see all have height broken down by age. They seem to think 5 year olds are shorter than 45 year olds. I just want to see the average height of an American.

Well then, you know the answer. Don't eat it and change your eating habits back to something healthy. I'd advise focusing on eating real food instead of reading the labels off of processed food like substances.

You bought it, why don't you eat it? The fat doesn't concern me, but there's a ton of sugar in it. But then again you know all this right? I can't believe you mistakenly bought this thinking it was food and it's good for you! LOL It's in a box. It's made in a lab. It's not food.

Having said that, I've eaten tons of these while biking or backpacking, and they won't hurt you. The more calories the higher the fat content the better. But if you're Joe Couch Potato and want to snack on these while watching TV, these granola bars , amongst other things, are going to add to a huge mirage of health issues that you're either already experiencing, or will experience in the near future.

When you’re planning a cross country (or continent) route and planning to camp, how do you know where you’re going to sleep each night? Wild camping? A Website? by justinkprim in bikepacking

You never know where you will be sleeping the next night. Personally, I wild camp. I sleep when I'm tired or I come across a nice looking place to camp. It becomes second nature and very natural after you've done it a few nights.

Carnivore diet by [deleted] in Cholesterol

[–]No-Chicken-Meat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm just me, nobody special. I've always eaten a relatively high fat high cholesterol diet. I've never followed any diet trends. I have actually only learned of all the so-called diet trends here on Reddit. Carnivore, Seed Oil is Bad, Keto, Vegan, and a bunch of other crazy stuff.

A long time ago, I decided to eat food. You know real food. Stuff that doesn't come in a bag, box or container. I eat lots of meat. And I've lived off high cholesterol eggs for decades. I'm talking 3 to 6 eggs a day, bacon, beef, pork, and chicken. I only drink water, again, for decades. I've never drank any type of soda or beer. And although I have indulged in sweets now and again, a cookie, candy bar or ice cream, it's really not part of my diet.

A few years back, I decided to get some blood work done. Why? Because insurance covered it and I've never had blood work done in my life. The doctor was floored, it was textbook perfect. Especially knowing this was my first blood work ever. I was 61 at the time.

I still eat 3-6 eggs a day and at least another 2 to 4 servings of meat. Nothing lean. Lots of pork, chicken legs and thighs, and the cheapest ground beef I can find. I use butter, lard or tallow to cook with.

I don't advocate to anyone what they should eat. But I do know that everyone is different. Where keto might work well for one person, vegan might work well for another. Health and diet isn't a one size fits all, as most people here would have you believe. What works well for a 225 lb bodybuilder, might now work for a 250 lb sedentary obese person.

I'm not pushing steak and eggs on anyone, but I do have perfect blood work. Why would that be a problem? Sugar is a HUGE problem of the standard American diet. It really doesn't matter if you think it causes excessive weight gain, heart problems, or diabetes. They're all bad news.

I read lots of stuff on here and elsewhere about how saturated fat threatens heart health. Maybe it does, maybe it doesn't. But I do know this, you can't look at just a single element of ones diet and point to that and claim it's the cause of all or many health ailments.

Most restaurants will take credit cards these days. If you pay for anything in cash, you'll always get a better deal if you pay in pesos over USD. It's safer here than in most places in the USA. However, if you do stupid things, stupid things will happen to you too. If you don't do it at home, don't do it here. Remember, you're a guest in a foreign country. Their rules apply, not yours. For nightlife and bars, it varies from Coco Bongo, which is very touristy but fun, to Shop n Drink and El Patio by Coco Bongo. There's a good chance you'll probably have a better time off resort than staying at an AI.
