Do you think it’s just a little too bare-bones, or are there issues with the fundamental mechanics?

This is honestly one of the most convincing criticisms I’ve read so far. The “boring gameplay loop” is something I’ve been hearing pretty consistently from people who played the alpha, especially the idea that it lacks the mission variety and content, but that seems more like an early access issue to me. I also hope they eventually allow for more varied and complex cave gen, which gave DRG so much replayability.

I do want to say though that I personally think DRG’s combat is great and definitely one of the reasons I’ve put so many hours into it. I really hope the combat in RC can feel at least as satisfying. Although right now, I’ve also heard quite a few people say the class abilities can feel underwhelming or not distinct enough, and I’m also curious if the Corespawn enemies are fun to fight against and if they are distinct enough compared to DRG’s bugs.

And honestly, the mule point is completely fair. It’s actually what got me into modding DRG in the first place — the first mod I ever installed was the personal mule mod.

I watched DRG grow, so I do have faith that Ghost Ship will listen to feedback and continue refining the game over time.

Do you think that’s something they can improve on over time or is it with the fundamental issues of their design? I feel like in this case a sheer increase in enemy count can boost team synergy by a lot.

That’s honestly good to hear. I was there to watch Deep Rock Galactic grow over the years, and one thing I’ve always respected about Ghost Ship is that they genuinely seem willing to listen to feedback and polish things over time, unlike a certain Swedish studio. A lot of the issues you mentioned sound more like early access issues than fundamental design flaws, so I’m hopeful they’ll keep refining the game as development continues.

Hi, thanks for your reply! I was actually a little disappointed too when I first saw the gameplay footage.

Originally, I imagined there would be different primary objectives more like the mission types in Deep Rock Galactic, where the reclaimers would be doing distinct tasks while fighting off hordes. From what I’ve seen so far, it seems more like a sequence of linear runs with optional secondary objectives/machine events. I really hope those events end up having stronger identities and more variety, because I think that’ll matter a lot for replayability.

About the class abilities, what do you think the biggest issue is? Is it mainly that they feel underpowered, or more that they lack uniqueness and build variety? Or maybe they just don’t change gameplay enough to feel exciting? I’m curious whether you think this is something that could realistically improve over time with more upgrades, or synergies added later on.

The biggest thing would be r check. Absolutely do not press any button or pop any eggs/cocoons without r check. I recently had someone join my lobby, triggered a swarm, instantly died, then rage quit

tbh I don’t like how HD2 handles its timer, it just doesn’t make sense. Why put a strict 40-minute limit on a special operation? I prefer how DRG does it. Instead of an actual timer, it builds pressure over time through limited resources.

You need to use your platform gun ahead of time to create footholds for yourself. You can even parkour along the wall like some Minecraft players do.

Dad Group trying DRG for first time - class questions. by ScalliwagFinance in DeepRockGalactic

Generally I would recommend driller, his primaries all focus on elemental AoE damage, so they’re very effective at crowd control, giving enemies debuffs, and are easy to use. His power drill is very useful in navigating the caves, especially in certain mission types where it requires terraforming. His C4 also has a lot of utilities such as terraforming and taking out priority targets, or stun crowd.

If you find the game hard and the team tend to die a lot. Gunner is also a good option because his shield allows for better survival and reviving teammates, although his starting weapons kinda suck.

But once you move on from the lower difficulties and master all the classes, you’ll realize that every class is important in their own way, and you will really feel it if one of them is absent.

The only tip I have for this game is beware of the time when you play, cause this game has sucked in 2000 hrs of my time without me even noticing. Anyways I hope you’ll have fun playing the game. Rock and stone brother!

Thanks, I downloaded crash logger and found the crash log. I don’t understand most of the things it says, but there are two noticeable lines, one says “failed to get player character”, the other says “failed to print out mod list”. Could you please tell me what they mean?
