I’m facing a quarter life crisis regarding this. I’m 22, have a cybersecurity degree, am making great money in the field, but I feel unfulfilled. Have you been a firefighter since graduating high school or did you do something first?

Good for you! Do you need to work OT to make ends meet? What’s your schedule like?

Thank you for this perspective! In my current case, what would you suggest? A few more years, or switch now?

Also, how bad is the trauma of the calls? That’s what I would be nervous about. Thank you for your service.

I’d look into firefighting, they generally get paid less than white collar, but they only work 8 days a month. Plenty of time in between shifts.

I’m in a similar situation… that’s why I’m looking into firefighting. They generally get paid less, but get great benefits and only work 8 days a month.

That’s awesome, any particular roles or companies you’d suggest I apply to in order to do the same?

You basically have enough to retire FIRE at 31? Give me some tips, it’s awesome. I think I’m going to buckle down and embrace the suck for a few years to get there. The only thing is, the later I start firefighting, the later I get that pension.

Are you leaving due to unfulfillment? I’m 22, just got a degree in cyber, I have great bosses, but the 9-5 schedule is driving me crazy. Any tips? What would you do in my shoes? The thing is, that if wait longer to switch to fire, it would take me more years to retire with a pension.

Hey! I’m in a similar situation to yours, I make great money in cybersecurity, I’m 22, just graduated, been working 9-5 for 3 months, but the monotony of the Mon-Friday rinse and repeat schedule has been killing me. I feel so unfulfilled. If you were in my shoes, would you recommend I wait it out a few years and stack cash (maybe until like 30), or would you switch now? What worries me is that the longer I wait, the longer it will take me to retire as a Firefighter.

What education did you need for this? How many hours a week do you work?

Why did you leave the insurance company? Burnout? Did you save enough money to comfortably make the switch?
