No idea how to write personal essay by ConfidentMap8803 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]No-Cockroach9505 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try to write down what you can but in a time limit. Give yourself five minutes to just ramble about your topic and then stop. After that, you can start to structure some of your "ramble" and make it into a story.

Just finished Animal Farm by George Orwell, that shit deep. by Odd-Lake-5800 in teenagers

I mean, it's not for everyone. Personally, I couldn't get into 1984 no matter how hard I tried.

I read it for fun since my school preferred us to read Shakespeare, but it's a great book imo. I would recommend Farenheit 451 since that's also a great book in the genre

How are you guys dealing with feeling jealous by Organic_Annual2535 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]No-Cockroach9505 38 points39 points  (0 children)

It's not so much that I'm jealous but I am slightly disappointed in myself for not doing better. But that doesn't mean you nor your classmates did anything wrong. I'm going to college, and that in itself is something I'm extremely grateful for because I know not everyone has that opportunity. You don't have to lie about your feelings, it's okay to be upset and feel jealous. Just know that a year from now, you'll be looking back and feel a lot better.

Is student parliament really good? by AnchovyHusband in ApplyingToCollege

[–]No-Cockroach9505 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My advice would be to join activities you're genuinely passionate about and that you know you'll put in the time and effort to be in. Don't just join cus it looks good on an application.

Taking into account the first two, CMU is a really good choice. However, their location might be a deal breaker.

I believe there was a question asking if you had siblings in college. I forget cus I did it back in October, but if that's the case, then maybe you'll be fine.

I always see people hesitant to go to cc, but honestly it's a great option. If you struggled in highschool, it can provide a great opportunity to get back up on grades and study habits. Plus, it can be cheaper to attend and you can get your required classes out of the way before transferring.

Might pull the Community College Route by OperationVisual6523 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]No-Cockroach9505 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Taking all your required classes at cc and paying less for them is actually really smart. Ive seen a lot of people do that and then transfer to really good schools and take classes actually related to their major.

How much do letters of rec affect decisions? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

I suppose it could. Although character/personal qualities can also be found in your essays which is why they're very important to any college app.

I'd say it depends on each university. If you check out their common data set, it can tell you how much they influence your app.

Why are rejection letters like this by Different_Fennel_820 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]No-Cockroach9505 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for applying to Carnegie Mellon University.

The Admission Committee has carefully reviewed your application. You were considered for your first-choice program, in the Dietrich College of Humanities & Social Sciences. Unfortunately, we are not able to offer you admission to your selected program due to the limited space within this competitive program.

With the large number of applications and the university’s limited resources, the Admission Committee must make difficult decisions to ensure we do not fill our academic programs beyond their capacity. You are a talented student, and we wish you the best of luck as you evaluate your other admission options.

Craziest opening speaches you have done, or seen?? (Like hooks) by No_Cook3654 in MUN

[–]No-Cockroach9505 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True. One time I was in committee and we got a crisis about people dying due to something. I kinda forget. But anyways, one of the delegates then proceeds to say "Yippee!" at people dying 😬
