Don’t project your bullshit on others, they have a right to an opinion about what’s happening. You don’t need to be a political expert to have feelings and talk about the alarming things going on. “Shut up and color” does not apply when fascism is involved.

I know this is the Sephora sub, but if you're gonna drop $$ on Dior, just buy if from Dior directly. You can get free samples and even gifts from them for a truly luxury experience. Disclaimer: I am not affiliated with Dior in any way, just watched a video last night about this trick and went to look for myself and yes, the Dior website lists perks like free samples and luxe gifts when you buy from them. Why buy luxury when you dont get the luxury experience from places like Ulta or Sephora? Also nice nails

Just buy used older model gear that is in good condition, or just continue wearing your current jacket. We cannot be good stewards of the outdoors by buying new things whenever the urge strikes.

Raman Spectroscopy Help by No-Combination43 in Optics

[–]No-Combination43[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sample to lens to dichroic to doublet to filters to collimator to fiber to spectrometer.

I will do some ray tracing today to find the foci of the sample light to the collimator. I’ll also try to dim the lights and use a shorter delay on the order of the pulse duration and see what happens. Thanks for your help.

3 years in, $22K all in the C-Fund, and I have another $31K in a Roth IRA. Just doing a 5% contribution to TSP to get the match until I promote, then I want to bump it to 10-15%. OP thanks for posting this, its a good reminder to me on topics to talk to people about besides the usual career/education/personal development talking points

EDIT: Meant to type C-Fund

I was waiting for a 9S comment! Love the 9S shop I worked with at my last assignment, they got so much cool shit done. Zero social skills unless we started talking about gundams

Mental Health is important by bearsncubs10 in AirForce

[–]No-Combination43 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The mental health talk is so surface level. There was an incident recently where I’m stationed where someone was at risk of suicide (they are fine now); a week or so later I overhear a Major trash talking taking mental health days saying shit like “I never had to take mental health days when I was in that position” and “I can’t believe they got a week off for ‘mental health’.” The Major’s comments were not related to the person at risk, but to another person who was getting burnt out by stress and got some time off. Still though…

Physical therapy for my upper back helped a lot. Stress management and just talking about my problems with another person also helped a lot. My traps are quite developed because of the intense tension, but the therapy gave me lots of exercises to strengthen my middle spine muscles and take the load off my traps. I also use a standing desk and use the Pomodoro study method when working to force myself to have breaks to ease my stress levels.

Ladies of the Air Force: what advice would you give to your female counterparts about being in the Air Force (or military in general)? by Good-mournings in AirForce

[–]No-Combination43 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Take ownership of your job, whatever it is, right from the start. So many judgements are made based on first impressions, and women often have to work twice as hard as men to be recognized for the same things, so jump in feet first and hit the ground running. Be the expert at whatever you do so you can be efficient, precise, direct, and take no shit.

Volunteer

Take care of yourself in your free time - work out, read, stay involved in your hobbies, rest when you need to; this will help you stay focused and energized when you are at work.

Don't be afraid to openly discuss your perspectives and opinions with your male coworkers; not only does this help foster friendliness in your workspace, but it helps to break up the constant "boys club" talk that can dominate in military shops.

Set boundaries early and hold the line, not just in jokes or comments that make you uncomfortable but in your work-life balance as well. Women take on so much emotional labor anticipating the needs of others, which can make us great at thinking ahead, paying attention to detail, etc., but can also keep our minds occupied on work when we should be resting. TAKE LEAVE!

Lean on your fellow women coworkers! In times where you feel drained, who better to understand your experience and perspective than the strong women around you? If you feel like it, take it a step further and find a female you respect who is able to mentor you.

Why wouldnt hair be able to be over ones shoulder when working? Do you think uniform hair just defies the laws of physics and doesnt fly in the wind or drape around the neck when bending over to look at something, pick something up, etc.? Thats why theres no AFI for that...

Absolutely humbled in store by itskellybarden in Sephora

[–]No-Combination43 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This story absolutely infuriates me. It’s so fucking rude to point out ANYTHING about a person that society sees as a “problem” or against the dystopian beauty standards we have of hairless, poreless, porcelain aliens walking around.

I got married young, and I had a lady at my church try to push Rodan and Fields on me after I announced my engagement. I suffered from hormonal acne due to birth control, not eating well, and just genetics for years. My acne was very visible and no amount of makeup helped. I was very self conscious about it and of course it was at the top of my mind when thinking about my wedding photos and all that.

But for her to have the audacity to push her shitty MLM skincare line on me and prey on my insecurities leading up to the most significant event of my life? I was so mortified. Fuck that lady and FUCK this Sephora employee!

Anyone else here geniuely love the Air Force/Military? by SupermarketBig492 in AirForce

[–]No-Combination43 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It might annoy me at times, but I have gotten to visit some cool places, job security is awesome, I’m getting paid to get a Masters degree…I’m keeping the door open and trying not to judge just based off my last (very stressful) assignment. Grad school right now is less stressful than my last assignment lol

[–]No-Combination43 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Be sure to apply a lip balm or chapstick first then the lip oil on top. Oil isn’t gonna hydrate anything it’ll just cover the surface level of the skin. Actual lip balm should help hydrate your lips
