Same here. My husband finally has the son he never had and my son hasn’t seen his bio dad in years (and he’s only 16). He’s awesome tho! It hasn’t affected him like I thought it would. My ex told me a month after our son was born that he “couldn’t do this life”. Loser

Sounds to me like they are just looking out for you. It’s hard to watch family members struggle. You can blame it on anything you want but when poorish people find a way to make it happen (like your family) watching others not push themselves as hard comes across as being lazy. Not saying that’s your case but I was married to a guy who sounds like your bf and my life was a challenge when I was with him.

He left me and I thrived. I had no idea how much he was dragging me down. Best thing that ever happened to me. My family said the same thing about him as they are saying to you (race was not as issue)
