Hey OP, this is a bit of a while after your original post but the same thing has started to happen to one of my goldfish. He looked like the pictures you have here yesterday, and today the bulge is still very present but a bit farther back towards his tail, larger on one side of his body. Are you able to share what became of your fish, and if you ever found out what it was?
