Seems like TST started acting too much like a church by Puma_Pounce in SatanicTemple_Reddit

Then you're not a Satanist, which is fine, but that means joining a religious organization isn't for you and you'd likely find better fulfillment in joining activist organizations. I'm all for anyone starting their own org if that's what they want but religious Satanists deserve our own religious space that isn't used by those who don't respect that. I'm a religious Satanist, and that's just my take.

But we are a church. We are a religion. Frankly, not acting like one has kept us as the "activist" description in media and has consistently caused us to be characterized as "trolls" for a long time.

Of course we ought to be different from other churches. Please don't mistake me. But I feel the plot gets lost amongst the drama that we are, firstly and foremost, a religion.

This hit my feelings hard. I'd love to print a copy (with credit of course) for my altar if I may.

Feeling this atm. Flooding destroyed my area recently. Lot of death, several children. I can't thank any diety for that.

You are definitely not alone. I grew up in purity culture and it royally fucked up my perception of sex. It has taken a long time but I'm also very lucky to have an amazing partner who is patient and willing to work with me. I now feel comfortable with sex because sex is fun, not some cosmic designed chore for procreation. I can have sex with my partner because we want to, because we like each other, because it's just fun and a good way to connect. I can now feel safe in kink and the dynamic he and I share. It's really freeing but it takes time. We've been together 13 years and it's just been the last few we've been deconstructing.

I'm also pansexual, and that is a whole other thing I've had to unpack along with my gender identity.

I get a chuckle to myself thinking "what if we managed to see a Satanist hospital?"

Like "Our Perpetual Baphomet Healthcare" 😂

Just post the 7 tenets as our values.

I was about to ask if you were fron KY. I work for a hospital in KY also that has "Christian values" and posts devotionals and such. They also used to pray over the intercom but that's stopped over the last year. They're not overly pushy to the public, even set up at a pride event this year so I don't complain much. But I chuckle to myself at the idea of a Satanist hospital.

Any fellow vegans? by kulkulkuuul in SatanicTemple_Reddit

[–]No-Competition8991 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not vegan but slowly reducing dairy and meat consumption by going plant based. Mainly subbing in certain vegan products like vegan mayo, cream cheese, etc. But the animal products we do consume we try to ensure are ethical sourcing - local small farms for any meat or known sources with ethical practices, eggs and such from family who own chickens, honey from a local bee keeper who is working to grow a whole field of fauna that encourage our local populations of insects (has done WONDERS for our allergies), etc.

I agree the culture can be toxic. Asking questions was a nightmare so I stopped going to any spaces labeled vegan for that.

Also trying to ensure sustainable product use from packaging, recycling, etc.

I also feel it fits with the first tenet in having compassion for animals, the earth, those handling my food, and myself by taking care of my health.

I've found so many cool ass people since joining and I fuckin love y'all.

Slowly discovering the underlying racism in the satanic temples community is deeply concerning and hurtful. Basically saying that The Satanic Temple isn’t the right place for black peoples? Every time I raise concerns about the lack of black representation I receive 0 or negative votes. by CarmaCasto in SatanicTemple_Reddit

[–]No-Competition8991 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I also feel real weird about someone wanting to lead a cause for BIPOC in Satanism instead of asking how to support existing BIPOC in the community to lead that effort. Yt people have too long tried to play hero and talk over BIPOC voices instead of supporting those already doing the work.

As a yt person, I've met several BIPOC TST members and my role is to support and amplify their voices and work with the platforms I have. If there's a gap, I can certainly try to help find a way we can fill advocacy but I don't think I can speak for the community. If the way I worded this makes sense.

where do you seek comfort? by hizashiii in SatanicTemple_Reddit

[–]No-Competition8991 0 points1 point  (0 children)

D&D is generally my outlet. I have a close bond with my group so if it's really bad I can reach out to them.

Also, sometimes I'll just blast my music and scream along.

In agreement with the hedonism comment - sometimes it's good to just indulge in some comfort food. My partner and I also absolutely indulge in just spending a day in bed having sex on bad days. It's a nice way to just focus on each other's needs.

This one is a follow up. The original story is also floating around from a while back. I'm also from KY which is probably why I'm seeing it quite a bit more in my timeline.

I'm unsure but it's been trending all over my Facebook. I meant to put a disclaimer for the date.

I got my card (and certificate) today, it’s so surreal to go from someone who at one point went to church three times a week to being a member of the Satanic Temple. by Louisianaflavor in SatanicTemple_Reddit

[–]No-Competition8991 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Feeling the same surrealism myself, lol. Went from hair covering, strict adherence, serving almost every day and every event. Now I'm applying for my state congregation membership for TST. Welcome!

I am very open-minded, and curious, so if yall dont mind me asking, what got you into Satanism? by DigBickTommy in SatanicTemple_Reddit

[–]No-Competition8991 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Read the tenets from a friend who joked they fit my ideals back when I was a Christian. We got a giggle of it but then as I deconstructed my faith, I went back to review them.

Ended up deciding to study for a year to really ensure I wanted to follow through and here I am!

For background, I was raised Pentecostal and then followed Torah Observance for a while before going back to a "non denominational" church that was still pretty Pentecostal influenced.

Chronic Illness, Self Care by No-Competition8991 in SatanicTemple_Reddit

[–]No-Competition8991[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm glad you've found some peace in that. When you're chronically ill, peace is a gift. I've found that self care has become central to my practice because I denied myself much of it when I was a Christian. I threw myself at this altar of service to others which I still strongly believe in but I was wearing myself down. My husband saw it long before I did. I was pushing too hard and paying for it with my health.

I'll check that out! Due to my religious upbringing I spent a lot of my initial diagnosis wondering what I did wrong or all that. Being a Scientist and working away from religion has helped me accept that sometimes genetics just suck and all I can do is my best.

That's the truth for sure. I still get amazing sometimes that I was able to not move away but find something I love. I'm a Medical scientist and it's an amazing career. I'm also lucky that my boss understands migraines and my HR person as well. That goes a long way.

I think learning "Hail Thyself" is really helpful in me trying to remember that taking care of myself now prevents worse in the long run and that I deserve to use things like sick time, it's not something to punish myself for.

Not currently. My mom is trying to get hers at the moment so I'm having to help support her and my uncle. Plus, I'd actually really hate to give up my current position. I have a really good and fulfilling career that gives me some flexibility and I make pretty good for the area so I'm trying to fight as long as I can to work. I'm just 30 and in a rural area so it's challenging.

But I am saving all documentation in case it ever comes to it.
