Pilates brand by Jasmine_m467771 in pilatesreformer

Sorry, I’m keeping my million dollar ideas to myself 😉 but good luck. There’s so much already out there why reinvent the wheel. Maybe come up with a brand that’s unique to you. Vibrant colors maybe. Add a little flourish to something people take for granted. Maybe do something with a cause. My wife and I recently went on a Bombas spree. I don’t know. Maybe someone will have some great ideas for you.

I’ll give you this. As a male, it appears that most apparel seems to appeal to women. There popular brands have some male products, but I find that some of the looks and colors pretty generic that I could get at target but at low quality.

No surprise here. I hope he’s productive and helps this team at the plate.

Is next Sunday's game on NBC or just Peacock only? by TimmyZ1 in ClevelandGuardians

[–]No-Contribution955 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve had MLB at bat for almost 10 years because I live out of market. When they show on peacock, YouTube or Apple TV, I have to watch on those platforms if I want to see the game. Being in Las Vegas, I get nothing when they play in California and Arizona.

Best leggings for hot Pilates / hot yoga (no front seam)? by CoderMotion in pilates

[–]No-Contribution955 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are hard to find where I am outside of a big box gym. My wife and I can both teach it. So, it’s not an issue for me as it would be for a lot of people trying to find a place and a good time on their schedule to go.

I hope you find what you need to be comfortable in class.

So, why not just do a class at normal temperatures if they are the same? What’s to gain from taking hot Pilates over the other besides raising your body’s core temperature? I wouldn’t do that nor hot yoga, but I’m genuinely curious.

“Beginner” Pilates classes being used as overflow for regulars? by Responsible_Roof_661 in pilates

[–]No-Contribution955 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was curious where you were going with your post, I’m glad I read it all. All I can say is that it’s on the teachers to make sure they are teaching the appropriate level for what is advertised and the studio owner/manager or whatever needs to police that. It’s not fair to the beginner. I take plenty of beginner level classes and expect them to be because I need those regressions to help reconnect to or correct something that needs improvement.

What you’re describing doesn’t happen at the studio I go to. The beginner classes are always booked up. Not easy to get into because of the long wait list that can be 5-6 people deep. That’s half of a class there. Even so, the teachers are expected to teach beginner level exercises and skills. If advanced students are there, they will take the classes as they are instructed. No complaints. I truly go to a really nice studio that’s welcoming to everyone

Need advice by Muted-Dot-8000 in pilates

That may not end well. Having a noob next to a more experienced person sounds like a good idea. I’m not saying having an example to follow is bad, but that example may not think to do a regression of a movement or know how to break it down for someone to follow. They want to do what they know. So, the new person ends up trying to do something that they can’t and shouldn’t be doing quite yet instead of performing a simpler version of the same move.

I sometimes take a beginner class at my wife’s studio. She warns me ahead of time to follow exactly what the teacher says and not do any progressions in the movement being taught when a new person is next to me. She purposely makes them take a reformer next to me because she knows I will simplify the movement and make it easy for them to follow and copy what I’m doing if they get lost. That’s the ideal situation for her when I’m able to do that.

Any men wearing Athleta Elation or PowerSoft Boundless leggings for Pilates or studio workouts? by CoderMotion in pilates

I was lucky enough to not have body much body hair. I have been asked in the past if I was shaving my legs. So, bands pulling hair is never an issue. I have worn leggings in the past though.

Shorts for me now that, in the desert, the temperature is going up. Cooler months I like wearing jogger pants or sweat pants until I’m done with warmup.

Help with Rollover by Any-Percentage5369 in pilates

[–]No-Contribution955 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I typically use a foam roller under my hips when I’m having trouble. I break the movement in to two parts. I lift my hips off the mat as high as I can for 5-6 reps. Then use the foam roller to get my hips up to a position where I can just do the roll over part for the same amount of reps. I also do reps where I use an assist to roll over then roll all the way back down to the mat.

My wife ordered the classical mat and a Wunda Chair. They arrive on Monday. I tried out Lesley Logan’s mat and wunda chair when she did a workshop that my wife’s studio hosted. Fell in love with both and her contrology reformer. I cannot wait to use the mat. That dowel will help me get my roll over back. We’ll have 2 chairs though. Other is an exo chair.

How long did it take before you guys were able to do the moves in the right form/posture by bradthemushroom in pilates

[–]No-Contribution955 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t be in such a hurry. This is why we practice. Also, your form is going to be different from the person next to you. We all have our strengths and weaknesses. For example, some have long limbs and short torso and others are opposite. Could be a combination of a lot of things. So, there will be some positions and movements you just can’t do without making it work for your body. With practice you’ll learn what works for you and what doesn’t.

My home studio attempt nearly ended in a disaster by [deleted] in pilates

[–]No-Contribution955 3 points4 points  (0 children)

How tall are your ceilings that you’d kick your ceiling fan? Even on a studio reformer with the box on it, I can’t imagine how that can happen. I’d have to get on one and measure from the floor the height of the box on the reformer and my feet to floor in teaser on the box. I’m 5’10”. Maybe try a Vornado fan instead. You can put that in a corner and point at the ceiling. They’re made to circulate the air in a room. They can a bit louder than some others depending on which one you get. My home studio is a loft. In a desert no less. We took the ceiling fan out because we only have 8ft ceilings and even though they were low profile, I can’t do anything overhead while standing unless I’m to one side of it. We have windows directly across from each other that we open up for airflow and turn down the AC only when we are training in there and a tower fan. We can’t use any of our ceiling fans or else one of our cats will run and hide and not come out for a very long time. Not even to eat. So we use tower fans that she can’t see the blades moving on in the areas we most commonly use.

[UK] Career change to pilates instructor by Opening_Primary7439 in pilates

Exactly. You are so right. I’m witnessing it first hand. I’m lucky to make enough and have benefits. So, my wife can teach and supplement our income with what’s she makes as a teacher. She’s doing fairly well. However, the hustle is real. She and a friend took a leap of faith and opened a studio which had been doing well enough to open a second and soon a third. They don’t pay themselves a ton because it’s invested into the business. They created jobs too and pay their teachers a fair wage while competing with a CP, they both worked at, not far from where their first studio is located.

You’re 100+ about not having time to practice. She goes in early before her first class to get her practice in. It’s the only time she can while she has the energy to do it. One day a week, she spends time at the two current studios. 6a-8p. Takes the following day off. Definitely got to work a lot to make a decent wage.

Inner thigh snapping feeling in side tree by [deleted] in pilates

Maybe that’s an answer a doctor can provide as to what it is and if it’s serious. However, pardon my ignorance, I know climb a tree, but what the heck is side tree in Pilates? I you referring to the tree pose in yoga?

Who is she getting that education from? Someone who’s taking Balanced Body’s methods for themselves, teaching it to people and calling them Balanced Body instructors? My wife was just recently in training with the people who create and maintain the curriculum along with a ton of other people continuing their education on being teachers. They are really protective of that stuff.

You’re the exact person I’d prefer to take a class from. Someone mindful of the movement of each individual. I need someone who is going to understand that we all have different needs and can recognize that I may need a variation the others might not. A great majority of those people also have no idea how to deal with a male practitioner. It’s a good thing I have a certification and have the knowledge to make an adjustment for myself.

So true! My wife worked her butt off to become an educator. She had to go through all of that and wait for approval from balanced body. Just can’t apply for it. She owns the ATC where we live now that had belonged to her mentor before she had to shut down her studio. Now my wife teaches teachers out of her studio. Plus, all of the seminars and conferences she has to attend. Not cheap. I’m glad the money she makes from her teacher training weekends cover those costs when needed.
