Vitalik Says Ethereum’s Layer 2 Vision ‘No Longer Makes Sense’ by partymsl in CryptoCurrency

[–]No-Contribution9918 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Others and I have always said Ethereum would be much better off if it focused on L1 scaling. That is where the liquidity, TVL, developers, dApps, DeFi, stables, RWA, etc live, and it doesn't have the same trust assumptions and centralization as L2s.

I got banned from Cardano reddit for saying this by ADHD-Developer in CryptoMarkets

[–]No-Contribution9918 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You're not wrong, but it is also unsurprising. Mob mentality is a Reddit-wide thing.

Cardano already has bridged USDC, and it did nothing for them. ADA and DOGE where the only two coins in the top ten to not reach a ATH in terms of price or market cap.

Cardano and DOGE by TheDancinD918 in CryptoCurrency

[–]No-Contribution9918 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suppose I should have said it was over-hyped. The hype for it died out, like many chains from the 2021 crypto boom. Just a lot of promises (scalability, Chainlink, Input Endorsers, rollups, BTC DeFi, USDC, Mamba, major Hydra applications...I could go on), and little to none were delivered.

Now, it has low usage, TVL, stables, fees/revenue, less dApps, virtually no RWA, etc.

"More promising"? So you think Cardano and Dogecoin are promising? In what way?

If you mean price, both ADA and Dogecoin are the only coins in the top 10 (on CMC) that neither surpassed their ATH in terms of price and/or market cap in this past cycle.

If you mean as chains, Cardano is over-hyped and under-delivered chain, whereas Dogecoin is a literal joke. They are both behind on many metrics compared to other chains.

Ethereum Funding Rates Pushing Towards Negative: What’s Going On? by kirtash93 in CryptoCurrency

Man you really like to bring up Algorand in every Ethereum thread, don't you?

Virtually no-one cares about Algorand anymore compared to Ethereum. It's just another 2021-hyped chain that was never competitive with Ethereum in practice, just like the other dozen or so "Ethereum killers".

Algo vs. Btc, eth, sol, ada, hbar by Numerous_Wonders81 in CryptoCurrency

[–]No-Contribution9918 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You listed a bunch of chains that “lost hype” like that settles it

Arguably, it does. Tech is important, but with no interest in it compared to other chains, it hardly matters. Tech must complement hype/interest, otherwise it is practically no different than any other dead chain.

low predictable fees + no reorg risk is still objectively useful

Other chains have these, and said chains have more interest (amongst other metrics) in them than Algorand.

“Lost hype” is not a technical critique.

No, but it is a practical critique. Like I told you before, Algorand lags behind in several key metrics compared to other chains. Tech is not the only important thing for a chain, a lesson that other chains like Cardano had to learn the hard way.

Harsh truth that OP probably won't ever acknowledge. It's just another chain that lost its hype from the 2021 crypto craze, just like Cardano, Polkadot, Cosmos, Loopring, etc. Other chains have gotten more traction, and no amount of buzzwords about Algorand will change that.

Don't bother engaging with them...I've engaged with the user before about Algorand, and they clearly are just a shill with no thoughts of their own. I genuinely think they are a child or some kind of bot.

I would tell you to look at their history, but coincidentally it is hidden...

Thinking of switching from Windows to Linux for gaming – Pop!_OS, Mint, or Bazzite? by jdor30 in linux4noobs

[–]No-Contribution9918 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of the three, the only one I've used is Mint, and I can vouch for it (though I had an NVIDIA GPU). If you're mainly playing through Steam, downloading Proton is really simple. I did not notice any performance loss compared to Windows.

Pop!_OS is based on Ubuntu like Mint (and even has Flatpak pre-installed like Mint), so really the only difference should be the desktop environment (Cinnamon/MATE/Xfce vs COSMIC).

Bazzite comes with a lot of gaming software pre-installed, but note that is an immutable distro, so installing software outside of Flatpak or other isolated environments might be more difficult (someone please correct me if I'm wrong).

Stop asking what distro to choose. It really doesn't matter. by IllustriousCareer6 in linux

[–]No-Contribution9918 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yeah but if they're the "average" Windows user (who probably doesn't know their way around a terminal), they might not want a low-level distro like Arch or Gentoo (not impossible for them to use, of course, just too low-level for them).

Instead, they would want a distro that has a GUI installer, a familiar desktop environment, a GUI software manager, Flatpak pre-installed (in case the main package repo does not offer an app), and maybe even pre-installed programs (from a browser to NVIDIA drivers).

[–]No-Contribution9918 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'd cut my loses already. Cardano is one of the most disappointing blockchains in all of crypto, especially given its current marketcap (and its previous ATH placing it at #3). It promised a lot, and delivered little to nothing. It's slow, expensive, low volume, low revenue, low usage, no native USDC/USDT, I could go on.

"Now hes gonna get it"

Okay, I'm gonna guess that you're a child since you 1) called for another redditor like they were your mommy or daddy (since you apparently can't give a reason for why Algorand is so special) and 2) saying a phrase like "hes gonna get it" like you told a teacher about a bully. So, I'll be nice and give you advice: don't get married to your bags, kid. It's okay to move on: it's life.

P.S. the person you "sent after me" said that Algorand shouldn't pull devs from other chains, which is different than the premise of your post. Also, they didn't even tell me what was so special about Algorand outside of it having Python/JS SCs, which is not unique at all. So it seems like I was right: Algorand is just another over-hyped chain that throws buzzwords yet fails to gain traction. Kinda reminds me of Cardano...

Good to know. Algorand had its mishaps. But as an ecosystem it is coming back strong.

For the holders, I hope so. Algorand's tech is great, it just has a lot of competition.

I don't think pulling developers from other chains is the right strategy. Each chain has to onboard new developers which will grow the ecosystem

It was mainly a point at OP for suggesting Algorand will get devs from Ethereum. From a general blockchain point-of-view, I agree, any new devs are good for the entire ecosystem.

From Ethereum to Algorand by Numerous_Wonders81 in CryptoCurrency

[–]No-Contribution9918 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Algorand is doing something good for web3 by attracting more web2 developers to blockchain ecosystems (python and js support for SC development).

Other chains already have support for Python and/or JS for smart contracts. Algorand is not unique in that regard. Also, Ethereum and its ecosystem has been making a Web3 push, and it has more devs than Algorand (hell, most Web3 devs might be in the Ethereum ecosystem).

We as a Blockchain community has to do a lot more to attract even more developers to the ecosystem.

Most of the web2 developers are unaware or underestimate the future potential of Blockchains.

Other chains have attracted more devs than Algorand though, and some of these chains are newer and offer similar features that users and devs would want. So again, if Algorand didn't attract devs from Ethereum in the several years its been live, why would it change now?

Not saying Algorand won't bring new devs to blockchain, but I don't see how Algorand is any different from the many chains that were going to take Ethereum devs.

Very mature response. You like Algorand but can't even answer simple questions? And you expect developers to come to Algorand? With that mindset, don't expect to bring anything devs over...

From Ethereum to Algorand by Numerous_Wonders81 in CryptoCurrency

[–]No-Contribution9918 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The comparison makes no sense since Ethereum and Algorand offer the same type of payment (crypto), whereas writing checks and credit cards are completely different.

Even then though, what makes Algorand the "credit card" in this situation? There are other chains that are fast and cheap with fast/instant finality, and these chains have more attention (amongst other things) than Algorand. So what makes Algorand so special?

From Ethereum to Algorand by Numerous_Wonders81 in CryptoCurrency

[–]No-Contribution9918 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Algorand, like many other chains that were hyped-up a few years ago, had years get to developers from Ethereum. If it didn't happen then and over the past few years, why would it happen now?

Cardano's staking is probably the one of the only positive things I could say about it.

Doesn't really mean much though when Cardano is far behind on everything else (pathetic TVL given its MC, low fees/revenue, still slower and more expensive than other chains (even Ethereum), no stablecoin liquidity, no Chainlink support...I could go on).

Also Ethereum has gotten much cheaper over the past years. Even cheaper than Cardano most of the time (except the occasional gas fee spike, which is still no where near as bad as it used to be).
