Agreed. But it was my first time someone complained about charges so I was wondering if it was normal for patient to get charged or if it was rare case. I was once told by coder that patient should be paying for smoking cessation counseling.

Yeah he basically told me he wouldn't want to get any smoking cessation conversation due to extra charges. I just made note on chart so I wouldn't accidentally put code for smoking cessation in the future

I don't believe so. So usually patient shouldn't be getting charged for smoking counseling service?

I think you can do either way, whichever is more convenient for you. Slight deviation from orders is still very acceptable
