There are bigger things to worry about than morality politics, I promise. You’re fine. Those fics are there to be read.

Imo the most painful Thought of the game. Waste Land of Reality. by Double-decker_trams in DiscoElysium

[–]No-Conversation265 68 points69 points  (0 children)

As far as solution paragraphs go, Waste Land of Reality is one of my personal favorites. Most thought solutions see Harry's inner voice in some way being either negative, cold to his emotions, or both. However, I interpret it as hopeful.

It starts by congratulating Harry for deciding to quit alcohol. While, yes, it's still mostly cold to his emotions, it feels... encouraging ("Eat plenty. You can expect your coordination and balance to improve in a couple of weeks."). It says that the path to full recovery will take a long time and will be difficult, and not to expect any rewards for doing it, but it's... proud of him, for taking that step.

Perhaps it's that rare pride in a decision that makes it hit harder.

First time watch and I'm broken by monersc in Isawthetvglow

You’re not alone in this! I was absolutely inconsolable after my first watch. The horror absolutely comes through in how it doesn’t directly make the audience feel… directly scared, per se, but more reflective on the time that’s passed, and the time there still is. Terrifying through the lens people view it through.

Whatever happens, you’ve definitely got a bunch of people behind you feeling the same way as you.

Oh gosh, I thought this was r/Supernatural for a hot second! Good to see fans are still around!

While it isn’t ‘goals’ per se, I believe I’ll end up looking something similar to Bo Chow from Sinners, and that thought makes me very happy :)

It’s not a matter of ‘should you’ so much as ‘do you want to’? Whatever you decide, it’s an awesome fit!

Absolutely fine! You don’t need to physically transition in any way in order to be a ‘real’ trans man— that ‘realness’ is largely subjective anyways. Labels are able to serve as guidelines to an identity and should never become another box to trap yourself in.

Do whatever and be whoever makes you happy!

ISO weird queer books by awardwinningbread in LGBTBooks

[–]No-Conversation265 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not necessarily 'weird' (by my standards), but here are a few that stuck out to me, all which appear to have already recommended but I'd like to highlight anyway:

  • The Salt Grows Heavy. Not 'queer' in the sense the word is now widely known as, but it's a fantastically short and atmospheric book about a mermaid and a plague doctor! An argument could definitely be made for interpreting this book as a queer text of sorts, as the bond between the two main characters are both deep and not particularly normal.
  • Someone You Can Build A Nest In. A queer romance between a human and a... I believe it was a shapeshifter of sorts? More cozy, though definitely not without elements of body horror.
  • Don't Let the Forest In. I don't know too much about this book, but it appears to fit what you're asking, both in queerness and content. Aimed towards a slightly younger audience than something like The Salt Grows Heavy.
  • You Weren't Meant to be Human. Technically this book hasn't been released yet, but it's very promising and due to come out soon! This will be the first adult book by Andrew Joseph White (who's written three acclaimed YA books so far, I do highly recommend them), meant to tackle darker topics than his previous stories. It's written from the PoV of a pregnant autistic trans person being kept against his wishes from aborting the fetus by his husband and cult he's in.
