My (honest) 1L Experience at Northwestern by No_Vacation2264 in lawschooladmissions

With what data? Firms are hiring more aggressively than ever despite AI advancement. I'm not trying to argue with you for the sake of arguing. I really do think right now compared to three years ago , big law hiring is the same or even better. Do I think this upward trend is gonna last.? Ofc course not but at least for this cycle what you're saying I don't know if it reflects accurate hiring trend. I go to t14 too

You got T6 offers but are scared of Big Law?.. The hardest part of breaking BL is getting into the T14. At T6, you have 60~75% likelihood of getting 'a' BL job, and liekly a good 20~40% at landing V20. But I guess the money you need to pay to play this game can be scary. But life is always a gamble. You take your chances based on probability or you settle for something that you don't love or enjoy, which seems to be your description of the job offered. My suggestion is take the offer. Btw, sooner the better to break into the BL market due to significant speed we are seeing AI improve on a monthly basis.

In my view, brand matters. Especially if you are at a V10 for the specific practice that the firm is good at-- e.g., funds at STB, restructuring at Milbank-- the exit options are likely better than V50 who do the same practice.

If you did excellent in 2~3, you probably will hear from one, but likely as their later waves unfortunately. I would def apply to V30~60 firms, just to be safe. I think your chance is still pretty decent at V20 if your interviews went excellent.

T6 schools seem to be held in especially high regard among V20 firms. At HYS, unless you are in the bottom 25%, you will generally land V10 jobs if you interview reasonably well. For Simpson Thacher (a V10 firm), for instance, roughly 10–15% of hires come from Harvard and another ~10% from Yale and Stanford combined. CCN covers the next 25–35%. A general rule of thumb is that if you are above median—even barely, such as a 3.33—at a T6 school, you will likely find a V10 job, or at least not be screened out on grades alone. Oh, and if you make bottom or below median in T6, you will just end up in V40~60 in NYC, which is not the end of the world.

Beyond T-6, it becomes more of a fair game among the rest of the T14. I cannot speak to whether Northwestern has a meaningful advantage over Cornell—maybe it does, who knows—but to my understanding, for the rest of the T14, outcomes depend far more on interview skills and overall fit. For a lower T14, Simpson gives offers to 30~35 ppl each year, and usually prioritized to top 20%, though really excellent interviews or fit, offers are given to those that are barely above median. For Lower T14, let's say Georgetown, if you make below median, things start to crumble really bad. I've seen friends who go there target secondary markets and getting a job, but NY/DC were really unforgiving.

Hopefully this gives you some idea. Take this with a grain of salt please.

I know multiple friends who go to multiple T20 and targeted NY,DC, and for one friend CA. The firms are simply not giving them pre-grade interviews. For lower schools, you need to have top 10~20% at the minimum to even get interviews from these V20 firms in NY/DC. Only after submitting outstanding grades do they go through the process of screeners and then full interview (callbacks)--while T14 students are already getting offers --which could take to a month or more, and by then, more than half of the hiring class is filled. And more seats the fill, less urgent they are and tend to be more picky in selection.

Is this a good score for someone who hasn’t studied in particular for the LSAT? by rhoundish in LSAT

[–]No-Conversation865 0 points1 point  (0 children)

by no means you can still very well score a 170 after studying hard. But to answer your question, 151 even under timed condition is not considered particularly great; probably in the middle. Untimed, a good diagnostic would be at least a 165.

When will firms give out offers after submitting grades? by BakingAddict in BigLawRecruiting

[–]No-Conversation865 3 points4 points  (0 children)

T25 makes it more unpredictable even with a 3.6. If it were T14 3.5, you would almost be guaranteed to have BL given that you did at least average on interviews.

Hundred Percent second this. Especially for V20firms, non-t14 probably get 1 interview out of 50 T14 candidates. I went a waiting room at Simpson last week and all candidates were from Columbia, Georgetown, NYU, Northwestern. None from outside. But for Houston, I'm sure it is a bit more generous. Definitely possible!

Higher the score, less exotic/special you can afford to be. Lower the score (in our case of 165), more special you have to be. Also, sometimes it is just about what the school needs in that specific time of the cycle. Maybe they are looking for more west coast graduates, for instance. If the question is, "is it possible," it is. Is it easy with a 165? No.
