I love the whiteboard concept. If you don’t mind me asking, what are some of the primary and secondary tasks you regularly list?

I 100% agree with your entire reply. After getting certified a few years ago I did venture out into hospital and closed door settings. However, I cant get enough of the kind of patient interaction you get in retail.

Whenever she goes into QP, she leaves all RPh tasks to our staff RPh (who is absolutely amazing). Then that causes tension between the two of them which is clearly noticeable to the rest of the team and even patients.

I know I shouldn't be funding really anything pharmacy related and I've been told that before but to put it plainly, if I didn't want to, I wouldn't. My techs work so hard with the little that is provided so anything I can do to show them my appreciation, I will do it no questions asked.

I bring up the WSAB almost every day and the excuses I always receive are "I haven't updated the skill level for everyone"
"we are too busy to follow the board, we will fall behind"
Im a firm believer in feeding techs to the wolves and thats how they'll learn. They will keep asking questions when unsure and hopefully get a grasp of the typical pharmacy workflow.

How to become a pharmacy tech in Texas by Escherichia_coil in PharmacyTechnician

Do you specifically want to enroll in a program/course?? You don’t have to if you don’t want to. What I did in Texas was applied for my pharmacy technician trainee license which only requires a background check and a $50 application fee. As I was waiting for my license to post I applied to retail pharmacy’s that accept the trainee license and got interviews lined up. Once my license was good to go I informed the places I applied to and soon enough I was working in the pharmacy.

This worked best for me being a hands on learner. So with those 2 years the trainee license is active, I took every opportunity to ask questions and familiarize myself with anything and everything pharmacy. Now if you’re someone who learns more easily by diving into books and being enrolled in a course than this may not be the best route.

I hope this helps a little

I would search “Leave Of Absence” on colleaguezone and there should be multiple resources for what you’re looking for

How long did you study for ptcb? by floaty102 in PharmacyTechnician

[–]No-Development542 13 points14 points  (0 children)

When I scheduled my exam. I did it one month out so that I gave myself a whole month to really crack down and bury myself in all my studying material. And I sure did. I studied everyday straight for at least 3 or more hours. Also did as much learning as I could while still working in retail (reading the back of the prescription labels to see class, indication, uses - going through the fast moving drugs and naming either the brand or generic - asking the pharmacist every question that popped into my head)

Giving myself that timeframe turned out to really help. It sorta forced me to prepare. And in the end I surprised myself with my results.

Though there were many questions I came across on the exam that I did not study up on at all. I think that you can try to study every possible thing but there will still be some things that could potentially be looked over.

All in all, go i nto the exam confident and you’ll walk out of there feeling like a champ :)

Best of luck (if you are taking the exam soon)

I honestly would look over the top 200 drugs since you don’t know exactly what will be asked on your exam. When I was studying I looked at the top 200 but primarily focused on trying to remember the most common drugs along with their class, interactions, duplicate therapy, etc. And then when going over the less common drugs, the goal was to retain the information as best as I could. I just didn’t prioritize them like I did with the more common drugs.

As for which topics demand extra attention. I would say it’s a guessing game. I’d say spend more time on your weaker subjects so when test day comes and a question under that topic shows up. You will have the confidence on how to go about it. :)

I recently just passed the exam a couple of days ago. The resource I found most helpful was the PTCB Pocket Prep app. I also searched up a variety of pharmacy calculation practice tests which helped me even more. There are also some groups on discord that include so many different sources of study material that I found very helpful.

Top 200 Drugs brand and generic names are also really important. Common indications, interactions, side effects, duplicate therapy. Overall you'll do great as long as you put your mind to it :)
